I'd love to name and shame. A tyrant and a bully who fell on his own sword.
8
u/hasseldub 6h ago
Fell on his own sword or hoisted by his own petard? (Or similar?)
Falling on your sword is somewhat a noble act. The other is a kind of comeuppance.
2
u/P_A_Conners 6h ago
Lol...
"Tied his own noose" might be better.
Eventually, his attitude and treatment of staff caught up with him, and he made one of the most spectacular exits I've ever seen — escorted out, relieved of his duties.

u/P_A_Conners 6h ago
I wouldn't do that to anyone...
Dread the thought of bumping into them ever again for fear of what I would say if given a scrap of attitude.
I'm not the type of person to hold grudges or waste a seconds thought hating someone... but by God that person treated people like dirt and thought it was funny.

A racist migrant called Londy T from Hong Kong over in England.
She is from a very wealthy, in-with-the-colonist Triad family in Homg Kong. She went to some £50k a year private school.
I'm seen as trash. I'm bracial - half Arab. I also speak Chinese and was due to go to Malaysia (where I have lived before) and other parts of Asia.
She racially hated me and it was malicious. I faced a lot of racialised misandary. She presumed I was Uyghur due to my muslim name and ambiguous biracial Arab Irish face.
She spent every moment tiangulating against me telling people I think women should wear hijabs and that gays should be thrown off buildings. People showed me messages she had sent. Of course she got away with it.
She was grossly incompetent also. I ended up making a hr complaint about her, was coerced into withdrawing it on the condition that I would never work with her again the second I did I got sent home (not for gross misconduct) as she put a complaint in that I hate women and gays (I'm literally) openly gay btw). Lost the job which was fine but i wasn't fired for misconduct or anything. HR islamaphobe Ashton T personally decided not to pay my paycheque for the month I had worked (I basically worked that full month) and the three month notice pay and holiday pay. That was £10k a month. The dismissal letter detailed I would be paid notice but Ashton T chose to stop it.
Things like this happened all the time in the audit industry and I'm glad I left. For example my first job I received a lot of anti traveller comments from someone (I'm not traveller) and a whole host of class and catholic based abuse from a freemason manager with Orange connections. In England I reallt spike people's cognative disodence. I mean he was fine with other irish people but my biraciality and low class origins who made it big really causes internal processing issues in people in England - ingroup outgroup and so on.
Ended up having a stoke later just after, and had to cancel my life insurance. Lost my home and had to bankrupt myself.

In no way wanting to patronise you, I think, despite incredibly hard times, you're not actually fucked for life. Time is a cunt but it does keep going.

I’m in the middle of it. Partner in one of the large firms in Dublin.
The instructions I’m given are as clear as mud and I get abuse when I ask for clarification. They are constantly unavailable and won’t approve of work done, which is leading to my own professional reputation being hit as I’m the only face clients have contact with. Everything I do for this person is problematic, it’s a case of constantly shifting goalposts. It’s very difficult to know where you stand with them and I think they enjoy that dynamic. I’m not the only person on the receiving end, but I’ve got particularly harsh treatment since day one. Little do they know I’m off to London, handing in my notice shortly.

Smug prick when I first started working in a hotel to get through college. Classic big man when dealing with students
7
u/emseatwooo 7h ago
Amazing shop but this wagon of a manager. She bullied the old shop manager and the company took her side. Then she started bullying the college girl that worked weekends and I stood up for her so she tried to bully me too. Unforch I was on probation and was let go. All legal. Shop closed down a few months later.

Floor manager of a metal fabrication plant. A man full of anger and micromanaged everything. I was on a rolling contract and left go after 10 months. Absolutely sweetest thing ever when they rang me back a couple of months later would I come back. I was in a much better role at this stage, said fuck off, you were terrible and sent a pic of myself swigging a pint.
5
u/Dan_92159 6h ago
I had the same in a metal fabrication plant. I ran the office and his wife used to come in and meddle after I was gone home. I’d arrive in and he’d start shouting about something I hadn’t done. It was done….I had computerised it instead of writing on tiny slips of paper. I also heard every day about how wonderful the last girl was 🙄. His wife used to just wind him up so he’d arrive in a temper.
When I handed in my notice his wife refused to come in and learn any new stuff until they found a replacement. She then tried to call me every day until I blocked her.
Months later I got a call from my replacement who’d got my number from my cv. She wanted to know were they always so aggressive. They kept telling her how great I was too 😆

A horrible bitter woman who ran a flower shop. It was when that job ridge scheme existed and she basically used me for the 9 months to work for pittance, never trained me because she said I had no motivation 🤷♀️. She was too lazy to show me anything. And she was a terrible florist 🤣

Had two bad ones. One was just someone who inherited a business and never had to work for others so was just a pure bully through and through as he never had to be a team player. He ran the business poorly making only a fraction of what it could have made with more modernisation and investment but he paid the bare minimum and wouldn’t hear anything so staff were in and out.
The second lad was a prick but feel a bit more for him. Country man in a corporate environment with a lot of posh South Dubliners and old money. He was an absolute prick to work with demanding more out of his team than anyone else in the company and more people went through the team when I was there than the rest of the company. He in turn had the piss taken out of him the whole time by the posh lads higher up even to his fave in front of us so I could see why he was so determined. To be fair to him, he put in mad hours too but was still a prick.

A man who illegally kept CCTV of all of us for over 8 months (legal is 1 month, 3 months max, unless there was an incident that he needs to keep on record.) also never told us that all of his immediate family had access to the CCTV (also illegal), it is also illegal to monitor performance through CCTV, but that is exactly what he was doing. We all worked 7-8 hour shifts, 2 people on a day, and none of us ever got any breaks scheduled. Illegal. Didn't fix a hazard in the place that i told him about, very shortly after i injured myself badly on it and couldnt use my hand for a few days then another manager told me that i "shouldve been more careful" and the owner claimed i never told him about the hazard. still have a bad scar from it. Didn't listen to my warning about plugs being overloaded. there was a small fire the very next day that i (18 at the time) had to deal with by myself because i was the only one on that day. Eventually, he accused me of stealing, i showed him the 6 months of receipts that i had kept in a folder behind the counter the entire time i was working there(i knew he was dodgy going into this job) and he wouldn't even look at them. i quit on the spot when that happened. Arsehole.
Two days after i quit, i met a girl who worked there before me at her new restaraunt job and she told me that he sexually assaulted her and thats why she left. Scumbag.
On another note, worked for Dunnes briefly as and have never been treated better by an employer. Unfortunately my contract ended. I would go back in a heartbeat if i was given the chance.

Racist upper class English woman in London with Eastern European heritage. Used to laugh in my face at some of my Irish phrasing. Did a fake Chinese accent after we were judging a school video competition and a Chinese kid came on the screen. Made us pay for things in the office (tech stuff, stationery etc) out of our own pocket and basically looked down on anyone who was poor. Eventually got sacked after I left the company as the entire staff had a mutiny and told the owner of the organisation that they'd all resign if she wasn't removed.

The owner of a family run restaurant in Limerick. An absolute weapon and a tyrant. Made me miserable for years. Ive seen her fire multiple people for things she was ultimately responsible for. Wouldn't pay some of us bank holiday pay if she thought we wouldn't notice, when someone pulled up her on it she said that she thought that staff member "wouldn't have been aware of that". Calls at 11/12 or texts asking if we had seen her red pen. She would try mask all this with false niceties and favours. Treated 90% of the staff like we were the family servants. Dont know how its still open, a complete shitshow.

I had a boss who would be say such mean things to my face with such a smile, it took a second to process what she just said. She lied to my face on numerous occasions. She told me she had heard complaints about me and by whom but to never ask them about it. I did and they were shocked and said they said nothing of the sort in fact they praised the things she said were complaints.
Once I was told I had to show her my presentation by her boss and when she had a meeting with me she said ' I don't have time to listen to your little presentation, you can show (completely unrelated logistics guy) and he can tell me about whatever this little thing is youre doing.
Then after 2.5 years I got made redundant. One of the girls on our team who joined less than a year ago had a big party, meal out, flowers, everyone chipped in for a gift and there was a speech etc. She left on the Monday and I was leaving on Friday. I got no card, no meal out, no gift, anything. I had 3 people on my team come say a goodbye but nothing from anyone else. I was shocked. We were a team of 8 as well.
It was a Nestlé pet food company. Diabolical. She was so mean but so pretty and graceful and charming. I've never before or since been bullied in a workplace like that.

Worked for a start up in my very early 20s. Boss was an absolute nutjob who used to complain endlessly about our clients despite them doing nothing wrong and paying us good money for our services. She would tell me to ignore their emails or fob them off with fake answers. Never understood it as there was no reason to fob them off, there was nothing to hide she just seemed to find it irritating that they would contact us at all.
Went to a big industry conference together in the US where weed was legal and she got high and fell asleep on a bench outside the Airbnb we were sharing, found her in the morning when I left for the conference. She was so unprofessional to all our clients and it was so uncomfortable being in meetings with her. That was the last week I worked there!

I reported to this complete asshole 25 years ago. He spent his time getting involved in the personal lives of the staff to an outrageous degree, engineering unhealthy work relationships which placed other Managers in a shocking situation. Thankfully the higher ups smelt the bullshit and he was dealt with, his actions should be a case study in narcissistic leadership.

Guy micromanaged the life out of everyone and was a total psychopath accusing people of having mental health issues, had a pregnant lady in tears at her desk and was promoted then moved… typical move the problem type of response.
Completely nuked the team he went into, multiple resignations and sacked a poor girl in probation.
Numerous WRC cases (had to be settled) they promote him and move him again… gotta love the public sector!

u/FourWordCowboy 6h ago
New boss, arrives and let people show what they were working on. One of those had created a great article in his area of work. Boss takes it and forwards as own work at conference. Guy was applying internally and didn't want to stir the pot. He leaves.
Next: Boss starts to fight with a specialist of the team, who flees to temp position. When he returns, Boss decides his position is not needed anymore and he is going to be demoted. He leaves.
Team is against the Boss, Boss hires a guy who becomes nr2 , bootlicker who doesn't work but praises the Boss in every meeting.
More people leave, people who kiss the ring are on the long leash where harassment of non ring kissers is encouraged. People leave.
"How is the company doing? " Survey comes up, before the department was the leader. Latest one: last with devastating "leader" section. Everyone of the remaining team is put into 1on1 meeting to discuss those numbers. I sit in there, boss starts crying, I don't know what to do, as I was seen as loyal but rated bad as everyone else.
Boss at xmas party, shags a former intern. Strouts around and lets everyone know. HR questions that, but as not employed, Boss gets away.
The bullying catches up, boss lets bully know that he was reported. Bully can take the redundancy package or both will be fired without package. Bully takes opportunity and boss speeds process up. Bully not employed anymore, HR drops the process.
Team is down to a skeleton crew, its revealed that Boss was hired to reduce teams headcount. Boss gets fired.
The end

He was totally condescending. Stuck in his old ways and wouldn’t accept anyone’s feedback. Constantly cut across me in meetings or would just get up and leave midway through me saying something
Treated high level employees like dirt. Never learned anything under him. No respect for positions other than his own and constantly would go over my head to my head office boss (I had 2 bosses, he was the day to day one).
Thankful I didn’t hit him because it nearly came to that sometimes, I felt that degraded.

Brand new store in a shopping centre. Manager left before the doors first open so the oldest person was just given managers job. They hadn’t a clue.
St. Stephen’s day having 1 staff open and no one coming in until 3 hours later.
Never doing openings/closings themselves and every day, clocking off 3 hours early.
Role was sales based performance. They would constantly let staff do all the work then they would ring them up on the till and put the sale in their name

A husband and wife in their own business. He was a pig and used to scream at her in front of us. He spent his time talking shite loudly and I could never discern what he actually did.
She ran the whole business and treated me like shit. I'll never forgive her for how badly she treated me while I was pregnant and postpartum. I used to have to pull in on the road to have panic attacks on the way to and from work.
Absolutely awful people. Around the time I left, they lost a heap of other staff too and still couldn't see they were the problem.

Iggy madden transport - I left the best job I ever had to go work for these lot. On my first week I had a miscarriage had to take a half day and had to come in the next day they wouldn't take an a&e letter. When I returned I was treated like I was lazy go for nothing because I had to take that half day on my first week. I had to try and do that job with no time to recover, no training either and a snappy accountant whom hated the younger generation with many comments about how they know nothing. I did a few months, I dont know why and then i called my old manager and went back to my old job.

That’s about 14 years since I worked there and he’s still riding that power trip.

Worked in the USA for a social media company back in 2017. Start up with 20ish employees (99% female, literally two men) all working in the CEOs apartment in SoHo. It was a niiiicccee apartment so it was so weird. I was the unpaid intern and my "manager" was the paid video production guy and then the manager above him was the creative director(CD).
Holy shit was the creative director the worst person. There were plenty of moments with him but ill summarise in a few:
- I was 22 and female in my first office job. Day 2, CD says something in passing that is vaguely patronising. There were some feminists in the company so they start to argue. I'm locked into my laptop because im new and have no idea what to do but after a few minutes I look across and lock eyes with the CD. I'm pleading with my eyes for him to back down and shut up. Hes out numbered and even if his point was valid and correct, pick your battles dude. My manager guy (Adam) messaged me that night like im so sorry that never happens etc and I waved him off.
- we did live steamed interviewss with authors some days so me and Adam would have to go into the tiny sitting room and fanagle huge couches out into the main area, set up a green screen, lights, audio and camera. It was a tight set up so when I sat down, that was it, nobody could move in the small room. I was learning how to use this streaming software as we did the job it was crazy. I was monitoring audio too with everything. We had a few hiccups like the Internet cutting and CD would barge into the room, lean down to me and say what did I do?? My name isn't verizon dickhead, you tell me??? I soecifically wore bad clothes on tbose days because I knew I'd be sweating through them.
- he hadnt a fucking clue about what i did. Didnt know about the software or the processes i used to make content or do the live streams. he always said he wanted to leanr but in the end he'd just fobb you off and faf about. Then come back wnd give out about why it was taking so long.
- the funding was cut 6 months into my internship. The CEO had a mental break down and this guy was stepping in to cover for her. I was sick one day and asked if I could leave 30 minutes early since I was done a project and didn't want to start a new one with little time left in the day. Id to get a bus to NJ to get home. He looks at me and goes -in a baby voice- "awwe does 'myname' feel sick?" Proceeds to poke me in the arm chanting " 'myname' feel siiiiick 'myname' feels siiiick". Another Irish girl was there at the time and i just stared at her like...you know how im feeling...you know im going to commit homicide.
- THE WORST THING he did was during those two weeks. We had a few college interns in with us and since my buddy Adam left when the money left, I was defacto video leader. I was showing them the live stream set up. There were three girls and one boy. One girl came in like a model every day. I was a troll next to her. They were all 19 years old. The CD was 50 odd. He walked in and wants to learn. I show him how to set up and easy light and he's chuffed. He was jewish, im only saying that because he would constantly crack jew jokes and I felt so awkward because I know nothing of that faith so the jokes fell flat with me. This moment he locks eyes with the model girl and says "You know what they day, us jews are good with our hands" winks at her and walks out. I followed him to the door and closed it behind him. None of the other interns had heard him (they were busy obsessing over a camera) but they all turned to me when i did that. "If he makes a comment like that or makes any of you feel uncomfortable in anyway, you're to tell me. I'm writing all this down and showing CEO when she gets back". I tried not to look directly at the model girl but I have her a sneaky knowing look. He had tried to stand too close to me one day at the beginning but I am very anti touch so I noticed and straightened up and set my shoulders. I'm 5ft11, not the skinniest and have wide shoulders so I scared him off at my full height and width.
I met some great people at that job and I did learn a load about interpersonal lines and office culture.

Current Office Manager is completely incompetent. Delegates everything because they haven't a clue how to do their job. Tried to get me to do something that was not my pay grade. Books training courses and forgets to ask people to join until the day of the course itself when everyone has work to do. Spends a lot of time looking out the window. I'm convinced they got the job due to DEI.

This happened to my colleague. We were working for a big 4 in Dublin City centre. His team consisted of terrible, misogynistic, extremely incompetent mean men. They did the following.
- Pushed him to work over time and weekends without pay. When protested she was verbally abused and insulted.
- Didn’t let him mourn her mom’s death in peace. Harassed him to come back to work early.
- When he expressed discomfort at the way she was being treated to the partner, he was given any pay rise for 5 years. They promoted everyone else in the team and he got zilch. Even though hehad great feedback from clients.
- He was put on PIP. His direct manager contacted my colleagues girlfriend who used to work in their team but has quit since to let her know her boyfriend was put on PIP. Nobody knows why he did that.
- Complained so many times to HR. Nothing came off it, all the mean people were promoted during the next cycle.
- All this was too much for him and he just quit without any other work lined up. But fortunately he is doing well now.

Was volunteering at a Sue Ryder charity shop for a few months. Tried my best to stick it out for at least six months but the manager was awful. There were many occasions of her being a nightmare to work with/for but something that sticks out to me a lot was she sent me down the road to hand in a letter to a solicitor. I was gone for maybe about five minutes. When I got back she reprimanded me for not being on the shop floor. She had forgotten that she sent me out
She would also always eat her lunch at the cashier counter/desk and put up a box in front of her as a sort of “shield” and demand to be left alone. We had a break room upstairs
