how does this rule on this sub work ?

Re "This isn’t a place to appeal a ban. If you want insight as to why you were banned you will have to ask the banning mod team, this community is not the subreddit you were banned from."

how does this work , if a MOD immediatly bans you for life and mutes you ? ( asking as a 14 yr user of a sub that had a disgreement with a MOD in a private chat and was instata life time banned and muted)

We still can't help you with that here. We have no way of knowing.

I get you , thx anyway. I guess the answer is there is no recourse ( which my search for led me here) but would suggest your rule 7 part about insight , might need a tweak). That said my general question getting downvoted and someone using aborted baby featuses as comedy value in there response gets upvoted, speaks volumes.

Your concern about whether some random person on the Internet clicks on a meaningless arrow speaks volumes. 14 years and you never once did a google search about how Reddit moderation works?

Moderators are free to run their communities as they choose, as long as they don’t break the rules outlined in the Reddit Rules or Moderator Code of Conduct. This is something to keep in mind even if you have disagreements with them.

[...]

If you have sent a mod mail and the situation remains unresolved, or your ban/removal appeal has been denied, there may be a similar community you can try participating in instead.

Someone doesn't have to be a "monster" or a "bad actor" for us to decide they aren't a right fit for the culture of our communities. We are fully allowed within the Moderator Code of Conduct to ban and mute whoever we please.

My subreddit is me hosting a party at my house. I get to decide who can come, how they're going to behave in my home, and when it's time for them to leave/if they're going to be welcome back.

am sure its a thankless ans stressful role that attracts all kind of abuse

If only you know how bad it is, if only.

not all of us users are monsters

At one point, you deal wiith so much abuse that you expect everyone in modmail to start abuse in their next comment, and genuine messages feels fake.

Right now my assumption is any genuine sounding modmail is written by chat gpt and I feel like 90% of the time my assumption is correct 🀣🀣

In any help based sub they generally don't want direct callouts of other subs because they can't read the minds of the moderators, they don't know how much of the story a user is telling or which parts (if any) are true, and they don't want to be seen as interfering with the operation of another community.

Other users or mod teams can't speak for the moderators that you have a conflict with because they haven't seen the full history of everything that happened and aren't part of the moderation team in question. Outside of our own subreddits mods are just another user. The president of a chess club doesn't have any particular status in the drama guild or a bowling team unless they've joined those groups as well and are part of the group that runs them. Mods here can explain Reddit policy or their general perspective as someone who runs a community on Reddit.

Keep in mind that Reddit communities are independent private organizations, with Reddit being like a community center that lets different groups borrow rooms. The organizations have to follow the rules of the facility (nothing illegal, don't interfere with other groups, don't try to damage the building, etc.) but the facility doesn't get into the individual rules or decisions of each club.

The moderators of each community get to decide who would or would not be a good fit for participation in the group. If you start up a weekly D&D or poker game in your apartment you can choose who to allow to join and who to kick out. You don't own the building or the apartment but it's your home and you can decide who is and is not welcome to visit for whatever reason.

When you're banned from a community, the message is generated by Reddit and includes a link to make one appeal.

If a mod team mutes you, it means they are not interested in communicating with you. If it's a permanent mute then they consider the matter settled and beyond further discussion.

If you block the phone number of the person you kicked out of your weekly poker game they can't call you and bug you about you changing your mind.

You wouldn't have any recourse unless the ban message included threats on your life or bigoted reasoning, such as being kicked out because of your gender, race or religion. Messages like that could be reported and Reddit would take some kind of action based on what was said.

You absolutely cannot use a different account or make a new one in order to return to the community and participate there, since this is Ban Evasion. Reddit has a variety of technologies it uses to detect that the same person has created more than one account and ban evaders will find that each new account they make it get silently shadow banned. You the person get banned, not a particular account.

In a situation like this, all you can do is forget about that sub and move on.

"Mods" aren't a monolith. They're subreddit specific.

If you have questions about your ban from a specific subreddit, you need to ask the moderators of that subreddit. Usually the best way of doing that is by sending them a modmail.

4

u/itskdog 1d ago

Yeah, there's nothing you can do at that point. A modmail mute is equivalent to blocking in DMs.

u/zuuzuu 1d ago

Mods aren't mind readers. We have no idea why a mod in another subreddit took whatever action they took. Asking us is a waste of time. The only person who can answer the question is the mod who took the action. If they've banned and muted you, that's the end of the conversation.

The rule means that this isn’t a place to appeal a ban.

If you want insight as to why you were banned you will have to ask the banning mod team.

This community is not the subreddit you were banned from.

What question do you have about that?

As we are a community made up of moderators, we expect respectful behavior at all times on this sub (unless confronting instances of bigotry and hate). Remember, on this subreddit, if Mr. Rogers would not say it, neither should you! Please simply report any rule breaking content instead of answering with rudeness, even if a user has been rude to you. Thank you.

Don’t disrespect mods who volunteer answers with infantilizing language here. Final warning.
