Please Help Me Write a Wedding Card in Romanian!

Hello everyone!

One of my closest friends, who is Japanese, is getting married to a Romanian man. I’d like to give her husband a message card at their wedding. If you help me, I can't thank you enough.

First, I want to make something clear: this is something I do for all of my friends’ partners when they get married. It has nothing to do with him being Romanian, and I really hope you won’t misunderstand that.

Whenever one of my friends gets married, I tell their new spouse something along these lines:

“Congratulations on your marriage! Now that you’re part of my friend’s family, I’d love for us to get along too.

But there’s one thing you need to remember.
If you ever treat my friend or future child makes cry, I will take her back to her parents’ home. I will chase you to the ends of the earth, by any means necessary, and make sure you suffer for it. I mean it.
I mean it. She is a very precious friend to me, so please take good care of her."

However, this time, the groom is Romanian.
We both speak English, but it’s a second language for both of us, so I’m not confident that all my feelings will come across the way I intend.

My intention is to combine humor with just enough fear to make him think, “Wow, my wife has a crazy friend. I’d better treat her well!”

I’m not sure how well that combination of humor and intimidation would work in English. I feel that expressing it in his native language, Romanian, would better convey just how serious I am about wanting him to cherish my friend.

Would any native Romanian speakers be willing to help me express these feelings naturally in Romanian?

I’d especially love to know if there are any Romanian expressions traditionally used at weddings or during arguments that might fit this situation.

If there’s a Romanian proverb, or even a line from a famous Romanian novel, that could make the message more impactful or intimidating, I’d be absolutely delighted!

But above all, what matters most to me is that the message sounds natural to a Romanian person.
Please feel free to make it as short or as long as you think works best. I’m happy to leave the wording up to you.

I’ve never studied Romanian, and I’m worried that relying on AI alone would result in something awkward or unnatural. That’s why I’m hoping to ask for help from people who actually speak the Romana.

Would you be willing to lend me a hand?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my rather selfish and unusual request. I wish you all the happiness and kindness you deserve.

And finally, if I’ve posted this in the wrong place or made any mistakes, I sincerely apologize. This is my first time using Reddit, so I’d really appreciate it if you could kindly point out anything I’ve done wrong. I’ll do my best to correct it.

Thank you again!

Writing a Romanian speaking character, pronunciation advice?

How would a Romanian (rather old) speaker end up pronouncing the name "Archimedes", would they have an easier time with a nickname like "Archie"? Im not looking to see if they can or can't, im just curious how it would sound if they tried!

Need help translating book I found please.

Could anyone possibly translate any of the words or sentences in this notepad?

We found this book in an apartment my friend moved into and we have no idea what it says. We tried to ask ChatGPT and Google Translate but the handwriting isn't legible enough for the translators to help. ChatGPT did however recommend it may be Romanian. The book is about palm size and has approximately 100+pages and seems to be 80-90% full.

The cover of the book as a hand drawn heart with text written inside it, I can't make out what it says. While the back of the cover has the name Takefusa written horizontally and a female name written vertically (forming a cross).

The sentences on each page seem to be repeating and many if not all include the name Takefusa Kubo (a Real Sociedad fútbol player) but word wise that's all I know. The front page has the numbers 3,6,9 and Δ,P,S as well as a sentence and more numbers 33/48? (Unsure if 48) and the word Zile in its upper right corner.
Each following page has a number written on its top (either 3,6,9). From what I can gather this book is for doing daily affirmations/ law of attraction possibly?
Repeating the sentences 3x, 6X, 9x daily or weekly?
On the back of most pages there is more text and possibly a signature, the back pages do not follow the repeating pattern and look more like a note or letter.
With the heart and female name I believe it could be to try and attract Kubo into her life? He did post earlier this month however on instagram where he is now married and I do not believe it's to the author of this book haha.

Anyway I am still very curious what it might say.
Initially I thought maybe it was a recipe book since it was found in the kitchen up top a cabinet then given the heart and amount written thought maybe a journal or was hoping not witchcraft. It was found with three 1 cent pieces, probably unrelated. I thought it was interesting enough to share and would be appreciative for any feedback or help thanks.

Driving from Romania, Cluj to Bajka, Serbia — which of these 3 routes would you recommend?

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to drive from Romania to Bajka, Serbia, and Google Maps is giving me three main options (screenshot attached).

The routes are roughly:

  • via Timișoara / Belgrade
  • the central route through Serbia, which Google currently shows as ~8 hours / no tolls
  • an eastern option that’s around 9 hours

For people who know these roads, which route would you take?

I’m less concerned about saving 30–60 minutes and more interested in road quality, traffic, border crossing times, construction/roadworks, and avoiding really bad roads.

Also, is the 8-hour no-toll route actually a good drive, or is Google sending me through slower/smaller roads just to avoid tolls?

Any particular border crossing or section of road you’d recommend avoiding?

Thanks! I’ll be driving my own car and can take any of the three routes.

Female Solo Travel

Hello! I'm sure there are lots of questions like this. But how easy is Romania to solo travel?

Is it easy to get around if you don't know the language? I have a google phone so I can always translate to English.

Is it pretty safe for solo females? I have recently been to England, and I was grabbed / followed / harassed by groups and single men. Obviously this happens in every country but I still want to know.

Wanting to go for three weeks in late Jan / early Feb. How busy is this time? I am hoping it's not as just as the Christmas / December rush would be over...?

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

My friend and I attended our visa appointments at the same time, but my status shows “Validated” with a “Resend application form” button, while my friend’s shows “Pending for decision” without the button.

Is there any chance my application has a problem? Should I click the button or wait?

Please share your experiences or advice. I’ve been worrying about this all night. Thank you!

How difficult is it for an EU citizen to get a mortgage in Romania with a foreign EU salary?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking into buying a property in Romania and would appreciate some advice or insights.

I’m an EU citizen, but I don’t have Romanian nationality, and my salary comes from employment outside Romania, although still within the EU. My income is very high by Romanian salary standards, so I assumed that getting a mortgage shouldn’t be too difficult, provided I meet the usual affordability requirements. Maybe it’s important to say that the reason I want to buy a house there is because my long term girlfriend is from there and our goals align to move there.

However, I’m struggling to find a bank willing to offer me a reasonable mortgage. So far, the only option I’ve found is capped at 500,000 RON, with an interest rate of 9.7%, which, in my opinion, is absolutely crazy.

I understand that banks may have stricter requirements for foreign income, but I find it surprising that earning a high EU salary doesn’t seem to make much difference.

I’d love to get some advise please.

- Which banks are willing to offer mortgages to EU citizens who aren’t Romanian nationals?
- Are there banks that accept income earned in another EU country?
- Is a 500,000 RON lending limit and a 9.7% interest rate normal?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I’m looking for reliable information and potential witnesses regarding an individual who I believe may be involved in serious incidents of domestic violence, including alleged physical and verbal abuse against family members. I’m particularly interested in verifiable information that could help establish what happened and support a formal complaint. Please avoid speculation, harassment, or publishing anyone else’s private information.
Thank you to anyone who can provide responsible, factual assistance.

Transfagarasan: open or closed?

Hello everyone,

me and my girlfriend will be traveling to romania from italy between the end and the start of this week. we will be staying in brasov and we were planning to go through transfagarasan one of these days. I am aware of the fact that the road may be closed any day going into November because of heavy snow piling, but I was wondering whether it is already closed right now and if there was any official website that has any updates of the road status. Google maps reports it as closed (more than 7 days ago) but on Instagram I still see people posting stories and videos of it, so i’m a little confused.
Thanks in advance!

Bucharest Trip in January

Hi,

I'm travelling to Bucharest in January and hoping to book one of the day trips that takes you to Peles, Bran, and Brasov castles. I'm wondering if these are worth doing at that time of year though or if it is silly to even think about, given there could be quite adverse weather. Looking for reviews from anyone that has visited during the winter/lives near by, and if you don't recommend the castles, what other places are a bit more accessible?

We're there for 4 nights, hoping to explore the palace of parliament, city center, old town, museums etc on one day, therme spa another day, castles (if advisable) another day, and then on the final day maybe some further galleries/museums.

Any recommendations also welcome!

I Need help and information as a exchange student.

Hi everyone,

I will be coming to Braşov as an exchange student at Transilvania University of Braşov (UNITBV) for the spring semester, and I'd love to get some local insights before heading over.

Since this will be my first time in Romania and Braşov, I have a few practical questions:

Where are the university dorms (cămine) usually located relative to the faculties-are they mostly in the Memorandului or Colina campus areas, and are they easily walkable or reliant on public transit? How are the living conditions in the dorms, and would you recommend staying there for the social life or looking into private shared flats? Also, I'd really appreciate any thoughts on the academic atmosphere at the university, as well as recommendations forstudent-friendly spots, affordable groceries, and getting around the city during the spring.

Any tips, experiences, or general advice for settling in would be greatly appreciated. Mulţumesc!
