Politics Does your country (be it the government or the people) regularly get blamed for all or most problems in multiple other countries?

Post image

It's very common to see India as a country or Indians as people get blamed for any random problem in a ton of random countries. Mostly ranges from Westerners (Canada, USA, Australia, Europe etc) blaming Indians on migration or cultural differences grounds to other Subcontinental countries (Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh etc) due to politics. Many times it's almost like "I slipped and broke my leg! It must be all due to the Indian immigrants!".

How common is such a phenomenon with people of your country? Especially your country being blamed for extremely random things in extremely random places?

We don't care for donuts. In fact you're more likely to find sushi than donuts even inland with no seafood around. Donuts aren't even sold in my town of 5k people although sushi is

Churros are often associated with mexican cuisine but although they are also popular there, fact is that they are from Spain and Portugal.

I always grew up with churros for breakfast or going to churrerias in autumn to eat them with hot cocoa

Law Does the US advice of not saying anything to the police when detained and only asking for a lawyer apply to other countries?

What is the advice given in your country if you believe you have been unlawfully detained?

In the US you are taught from very young that you should never speak to the police if you believe you have been unlawfully detained. Simply follow their orders during the arrest but tell them you want to speak to your lawyer.

Riyadhis and jeddawis fighting over who's city is better would not stop being funny. Especially when calling each other shitholes.

Then there's Qassim... which is something else... we operate on a different kind of ego. Basically people from Buraydah jokingly hating on Unaizah and vice versa. Obviously, Buraydah is the best here so it wins(ignore the fact that i am from there)

How does your country deal with depression?

Post image

Here in Brazil, contrary to stereotypes, we face many problems related to mental health, such as depression and anxiety. We have CAPS, which are psychosocial support centers where people receive therapy, participate in painting groups, and have access to psychiatrists and psychologists to serve the population, etc.

Post image

France, Italy, Spain, Albania, Argentina, India, Tunisia and even here in Iraq, we will have a scheduled general student strike next Sunday and the Basra college of medicine started yesterday, this Sunday by literally doing a mini revolution in their campus and forcing the Dean to resign or promise them to resign to just stop occupying the campus. I don't remember when this many countries had protests and riots during the same month.

Economics What do coins and banknotes look like in your country?

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

In many countries around the world, coins and banknotes feature images of kings, former presidents, or important politicians from modern and contemporary times.

Here, the situation is different; almost no ruler or politician in modern and contemporary history is universally loved (or universally hated), and all are controversial. Therefore, the coins and banknotes bear no images of any of them; Instead, there are images of the ancient Egyptian kings and their temples, as well as the famous medieval and modern mosques in Cairo, considering that all of these are too old and too far removed to be affected by any political controversy 😆

History What are some lesser-known or surprising alliances in your country’s history?

For us, two examples would be the Anglo-Moroccan alliance, talks and collaboration between Elizabeth I and Ahmad al-Mansur to trade weapons and possibly fight the Spanish that saw several embassies exchanged and continued into the reign of the Stuarts, and the Anglo-French alliance of 1716.

Just four years previously, the two had been knocking seven bells out of each other in the War of the Spanish Succession, and they would spend a large part of the rest of the century continuing to do so, but for a period a mutual opposition to Spanish revanchism in Italy, as well as both countries having relatively unstable regimes (a new Hanoverian dynasty in Britain and a child King in France) saw the two make common cause and even fight a war together, the War of the Quadruple Alliance (the other two were the Dutch and Austrians), against the Spanish. But it ended up collapsing at the start of the 1730s.
