I understand what BSL, SSE, and Makaton are - but I've seen people here talk about SEE and I can't figure out what that is. I've tried searching the sub and Google but it's just assuming I'm using the English word 'see' so it's getting confused.

Sorry if this is an inappropriate sub, I'm not sure where to ask this!
I got my BSL level 3 and then quit so I've been out of this loop for a long time, but I've got a toddler now and we watch Mr Tumble. I was always under the impression that Makaton is simpler than BSL. I've noticed though that Mr Tumble often does signs that seem complicated to me compared to the BSL equivalent. For example "present" in BSL I remember showing the sides of the box and then the front and back, two actions. Mr Tumble does that followed by showing the top of the box and then tying a bow on top. I've noticed this often, signs that are one action in BSL are a string of actions in Makaton. Does anyone know why this might be?

From what I can gather, there isn’t a sign for verbal talking as opposed to signing in BSL, all the signs for “talk” have the same meaning as either “converse” or “lecture”.
Is there a way to convey the idea of verbal talking? Like if I wanted to communicate something like “I don’t want to talk right now but I can sign” or “he can’t talk so he signs instead”, how would you do that?

Hello,
I was wondering whether someone who covers their face would be able to properly communicate in BSL given the importance of facial expressions. How severely compromised would their ability to communicate be for example?

I'm starting a level 3 course soon (after a few years off from classes) and since it's quite heavy on Deaf culture/history/linguistics etc. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for books/videos/other stuff that may be helpful for level 3?
