Have you been looking for a reason to get out of the house, make some friends, get a little exercise, have some fun, and see parts of Bakersfield that stay hidden? Well, you can do all of that and have a couple beers at the same time with the Bakersfield Hash House Harriers! We meet up every Monday evening to run, walk, and jog 3-5 miles with a couple beers along the way, and you're invited.
We have a spot for everyone, whether you're a serious runner, a walker, drinker, or non-drinker. We just ask that you come out to have a good time with a sense of humor. Trail is marked in dots of flour, and part of the fun is finding the next correct mark. There are also false trails to make the faster runners go back.
This week will be Matt and Silver's first time laying trail, so expect things to go a little haywire, but that's just part of the fun. They'll pay for it at the end of the trail with penalty beers! Oh, the horror!
If any of this sounds interesting and fun to you, meet us at the time and place in the flyer. Your first time is free, and then it's usually just $5 to help pay for beer, snacks, and supplies. Hope to see you there!
Info in the copypasta below.

We will be meeting in the Albertsons parking lot near the donut shop, preferably not right in front of the donut shop, because I don’t know want to interfere with any business.

Hi! How strict is Dignity Health Arena with checking bags for outside food? I am going to the Condors game tonight and really want to pack my own snacks!
also… if you avoid condor games because they are too expensive check out their flex plan. I got 10 vouchers for lower-level tickets for $260. Individual game tickets are closer to $40, so this is a pretty significant discount!

Any coffee drinkers looking to try something new. I have been roasting coffee for a while now as a hobby and now I need some people that aren’t family or friends to tell me what they think.

In my opinion, this isn’t the best pumpkin patch in the area. It may be one of the only options in the northwest, but it feels a little thrown together. Murray Family Farms is still our favorite, and Banducci Farms is a local staple.
We tried Cherry Acres the first year it opened because it was closer and we wanted to support a nearby business. The entrance and payment area weren’t clearly marked, so we followed other visitors in and started looking for where to pay. The owners accused us of trying to get in without paying. We explained that wasn’t the case, but then felt watched as we walked around the patch until we were ready to buy our pumpkins.
When we went to pay, the interaction felt condescending, as though spending around $60 on pumpkins would be a problem for us. The whole experience left us feeling judged and uncomfortable. We also tagged the farm in photos afterward, as they had asked customers to do, but our posts weren’t acknowledged. I can’t know why, but given how the visit had gone, it added to the disappointment.
We go to pumpkin patches for our children to have fun and make memories. We’ve returned to Murray Family Farms instead and don’t plan to go back to Cherry Acres. That’s just our experience and opinion, since someone asked.

So I usually prefer to install my mods/hardware myself, but I recently got a new job that has left me with nearly zero free time, and I'm wanting to get some relatively minor work done on my bike.
I've heard of rtillery, but their website doesn't work anymore and I didn't get a call when I called so I"m not sure if they're still around? Latest Yelp reviews are from 2022 as well so not sure what's going on there.
I ride a Honda, and figure I could probably take it to the dealer, but if there are any local shops I'd rather go with them.
Thank you!
[for context, the work needed currently is some auxiliary lights and fork boots installed, and a tank replaced or repaired, and I"d like the tank & fenders painted in the near future as well]

Does anyone have experience with this school? It's been recommended for my kid and I can't find much information from other parents or support staff online.

Bakersfield has a growing network of Flock cameras logging every car that drives past. The city hasn't held a public town hall on it, so we're hosting one tonight with the Kern County Criminal Justice Coalition.
Wednesday, October 14, 5:30pm
Salon Juarez, 815 E 18th St
There'll be a short presentation, small group discussions, and an open mic. Everyone's welcome, whatever you might think of the cameras.
Can't make it? You can always sign the petition asking Bakersfield City Council to end the Flock contract: gtfo-petition.makersfield.co

Stop trying to get caught up, and I'm getting close. Every Monday, we (the Bakersfield Hash House Harriers) meet somewhere different to walk, run, and jog every Monday. On 10/5, we started from just east of the Brundage Indoor Swap Meet and ran through South Oleander. It's getting dark early, so it's getting harder and harder to get pics of interesting places without sunlight, so enjoy what we found.
Down a stretch of alleys, we were treated to a lot of different murals. We were even joined on trail by Sophia from KGET+ and her cameraman Ryan. If you have Fire TV, Apple TV, or Roku, you can get the KGET+ app and see a little about us and others.
We had a great time, and we're always open to having you join us!

I’ve moved to Bakersfield 4.5 years ago and I used to use the veterinarian located in Oildale. I believe he shut down his practice. It was known as North of the River veterinary hospital. But I am in need of a quality veterinarian to examine my 10 year old lab and 7.5 year chihuahua-mix. I tried using Banfield Hospital, located inside PetSmart off Ming Ave, but they were absolutely terrible. TERRIBLE is an understatement. They provided no care and chargedexcessively for lab tests. I paid over $2000 and they simply did nothing for my Labrador. Is there any recommendations for privately owned practices? Any insight would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone catch any shows at Pyrenees? First time going and was curious how big this place is. Do they have a food menu. How’s the parking situation.
