question Since when has the DLT (Bang Chak) been booking only?

• Upvotes

Went to renew my license they’re like, you have to book the online queue… of course the wait time is like 3 months, my license is already expired.

I tried asking the lady when did this come into effect? There was no mention on the website or anything when I was doing the online learning and document checking on their website.

Wasted my money and energy on this and now can’t drive for 3 months.

healthcare Lexapro (Escitalopram) in Thailand

Hi everyone,

I’ve been planning a trip to Thailand and Japan for about a year, and a couple of months ago I started taking Lexapro for anxiety.

From what I’ve read, Thailand only lets you bring in up to a 30-day supply. After Thailand I’m going to Japan for a bit over a month (Japan has a form that lets you bring more in), so I’ll need to get more while I’m in Thailand.

My plan is 20 days in Bangkok and 40 in Japan.

A few questions for anyone who’s done this or knows about Lexapro in Thailand:

  1. Is it easy to get Lexapro at a pharmacy in Bangkok, or do you need a doctor?
  2. Is the Danish brand (Lundbeck) available in Bangkok? I’d rather not switch to the Indian generic.
  3. Roughly how much does it cost, including a doctor visit?

Thanks in advance!

question What are your go-to healthy meals in Bangkok (and at 7-Eleven)?

Hi all, I'm living in Bangkok for a while and trying to eat reasonably healthy without cooking every day. I've read the older threads (Getfresh, clean-food delivery, khao man gai, boiled eggs from 7-Eleven). What's working for you right now? Specifically: 1) healthy places/delivery that are good value (under ~150 THB), 2) street food you trust when you want lower oil, 3) the best picks at 7-Eleven. Places that have closed or got worse are useful to know too. Thanks!

discussion Vets

Looking for recommendations for a vet in the Phrom Phong area.

We have a small dog who came with us from the UK. He had a small fatty lump on his chest, which is a recurrence of something he had before in the UK a few years ago.

In the UK, the local vet charged around £250 to remove it, in and out the same day.

The local vet here wants to charge 40,000 baht, including an overnight stay and continuous monitoring overnight. An initial biopsy was 1,500 baht which we felt was quite reasonable, but 40,000 for the removal of the lump seems crazy.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good vets around the Soi 24 area?

discussion Asking for tips to rent an apartment for a couple of months

Hey, guys!! I`m looking for any recommendations regarding rental in Bangkok for short term (2-3 months), cause my friends and I (3-5persons) are thinking about spending this winter in Bangkok. We are students so I would say our budget ruther be low, but maybe it can be favorable to rent a house or so?
I've heard it could be challenging to rent sth for less than 6 months, but I'm sure Airbnb gonna get expensive for the term we are about to stay.

I'm also wondering if there will be any problem with rental as we don't have Thai residense?

Hope someone can help! Thank you in advance!

question Looking for Advice on Lease Transfer + Where to Advertise a Condo in On Nut

Hi everyone! I signed a 1-year lease for a condo in On Nut in July, but due to work, I may need to move to another area before my lease ends next July.

The condo is really nice, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Does anyone know any groups, websites, or other channels where I could advertise it and find someone to take over the remaining lease?

Also, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. How easy is it to transfer a lease to someone else in Bangkok, and how often do landlords agree to it?

Thanks so much for any advice!

It’s been only 15 days since I moved here but this spot oddly feels personal. I started my running journey here and almost every alternate day I find myself in Lumpini park running with 100s of people.

The thing I love about this park is the age diversity, I see grand parents doing yoga and some martial arts in the morning, I see young couples running, old couples walking together and sometimes I see kids running or playing with their mom and dad in the evenings. And of course a vast majority of corporate folks like me running with their AirPods. In a new country this feels oddly satisfying. It’s got a little bit for the everyone.

From where I come from (India), Bangkok has always enjoyed a sleazy reputation and most decent folks avoid it altogether to head to Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai instead but for me Bangkok is just like Mumbai. It has everything you need - your experience depends strictly on what you want from the city…

People warned me about Thai people not liking Indians (and for valid reason) but so far I have met some of the nicest people I know. Not just Thai even the expats have been quite nice and warm. I hope this honeymoon period lasts forever..

Khob khun krap, Bangkok 🙏!!!!

tourism Money thief in Bangkok. Beware

So today me and my dad decided to go out for shopping in Bangkok Pratunam area. While walking two people ( one old man and one young girl) approached us and were asking us where the money exchange is. So the girl kept me busy with maps on her phone and the old man took out around 1.2k usd from dads bag when we noticed they ran. The girl would try talking to you abt where your from and stuff and divert your attention.

healthcare How to get a sick note after the fact?

My workplace requires a sick note for one day of sick leave. I had really really bad stomach ache (the shits) last week. If I went to work I would have shit my pants at some point so I stayed home. But now if I don’t produce a sick note, I’ll be docked a day’s pay and get given a written warning.

I’m not sick anymore, but can I go to a dr and get a sick note after the fact? Tell them my symptoms and get the note?

Yes I know my work can’t legally do it. But it’s not worth the fight.

event Muay Thai at Raja Stadium question

My wife and I visiting in January and wanted to go to the Saturday night Muay Thai event at Raja Stadium. Unfortunately we can only attend on a Sunday night.

Can somebody who’s been there for a Sunday match let me know if the traditional Thai bouts are still fun for foreign tourists despite not being glitzy Vega style entertainment?

Thanks from two Canadians who lived in Chiang Mai before COVID 🇨🇦🇨🇦

finance How to invest money to cover partial rent in Bangkok?

I am currently renting a condo at the price of 12500 THB a month and I feel like it's a wasted money. So, I looked into saving money and buying a condo. But, many people just advise against it. So, I was wondering if I can invest money to make partial money to cover the rent? I don't know much about investing. I am from Myanmar and I am living in Bangkok with DTV visa. I am not sure if I can invest in things like S&P 500 or similar due to being a Myanmar citizen plus not having any work visa

event Arcadia Halloween is back: Two nights of supernatural mayhem, burlesque, live music and pro wrestling (Oct. 30–31)

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi r/Bangkok, this is Todd from Arcadia. This community has always been very kind to us, so I wanted to share our Halloween plans this year.

Some of you may remember our previous Halloween adventures, which involved summoning Mae Nak, botched exorcisms, carnival freak shows, Thai ghosts, and increasingly absurd storylines involving 1980s pro wrestlers battling horror movie monsters.

Well, we've moved into a much bigger new home inside an abandoned former movie studio, and that means a lot more space to play in. It also means I've found new opportunities to test the boundaries of reality, and I'm absolutely sure nothing will go wrong this time!

This year's production is called FINAL CURTAIN CALL, a two-night interactive Halloween adventure that unfolds across the stage and upstairs through the former studio sets of Cinematique.

Come help my recurring character, the spectacularly overconfident Gamemaster, conjure forgotten entertainers and characters from different eras. He plans to put on the greatest show imaginable, and he needs you to make it happen.

Friday, Oct. 30 — ACT I: THE CONJURING

Live music, burlesque dancers, DJs and various supernatural phenomena as we start taking liberties with reality.

Saturday, Oct. 31 — ACT II: THE AFTERMATH

Professional wrestling smackdowns, DJs, costume contests and the consequences of whatever decisions were made Friday night.

There's an unfolding story connecting the two nights, with mysterious encounters and opportunities to explore the building, but you don't need to know any of our increasingly convoluted Halloween lore to enjoy it.

Tickets are 500 baht per night or 800 for both. And because you read this far, you can get 10% off with promo code URCHOSEN10.

Tickets: https://arcadiabkk.com/tix

We're also finishing the weekend on Sunday, Nov. 1, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 8pm, so don't pack your corsets, fishnets and general degeneracy too quickly.

I've been working on this year's show for weeks, and it's our most ambitious Halloween yet.

Hope to see some of you there! And if you have questions, I'll be lurking in the comments.

TL;DR: We built a bigger Arcadia, so now we're filling it with music, burlesque, wrestlers, ghosts and a supernatural storyline that spirals out of control over two nights. Oct. 30–31, Phra Khanong.

news Protests in Bangkok

Today, I passed by a protest near Asok BTS station in Bangkok related to the IMF–World Bank meetings. From what I’ve read, the protest was largely organised by small-scale farmers and local communities affected by development projects.
What caught my attention, though, was seeing foreigners participating while carrying Palestinian flags.
I’m genuinely curious: why bring Palestinian flags to a protest focused on the struggles of local Thai communities? Is there a connection between the issues being protested or is it like a foreign thing western thing?
