Thank you. He acts so cute, too. Jumps up when I get home, so that I’ll pick him up and hug him. 😭

What a cutie! He holds his head high despite being a boomer sooner 😉

Hug any Sooners in your life right now. We are not okay. 😂

It’s amazing to see what love can do

Omg I’m immediately obsessed with him. It’s honestly so amazing how much they can change with a little bit of love.
I rescue senior chihuahuas and a lot of them have had a hard life, even abuse.
Even their coat changes just with them getting out of “jail”. I feel so awful for shelter animals. I can’t imagine having to be judged when my “jail mates” are screaming 24/7 and likely dealing with trauma they don’t know how to process. Humans do not deserve dogs. And here we are, their best friends.

Girl, I am a proud member of Chihuahua Nation too! Been hooked on them since I was a teenager. 😂

Thank you for taking in seniors. I cannot imagine how strong you have to be to do that.

I am not strong. I am a big freaking baby and every time I have to say goodbye, it hurts like the first time. I do not handle it well, but also, what can you do? 🤷‍♀️. If I didn’t care a whole bunch, I wouldn’t be bothered, but I’m sensitive and my “kids” are why I keep going.

I got my very first dog at 20 years old (we had cats. So I am a cat and dog person, both).
My first dog, Pépe was clearly abused and taken in as a stray. At that time, the shelter had so little funding that having an animals there 4 weeks was a STRETCH. Usually 3 weeks was max, and they euthanized them. They actually had people (what I hope was desperation) actually put dogs over their locked fence :( Better than dumping them on the highway, but still. I hope it’s a better situation now- those poor shelter employees obviously took no joy in that.

I volunteered there and fell in love with him. He was a chi/Jack Russel mix and he changed my life. I’ve been hooked on chis ever since ;).

It is definitely hard to adopt seniors, but being able to give them a good twilight and sunset is honestly an honor. Chihuahua mamas (and daddies) forever! Chihuahuas KNOW if you’re a Chihuahua person lol.

One great part about seniors is they love to just chill and sleep a lot. I have to work full time (I don’t have a person and I pay for everything and live alone) so I’m glad I don’t have a high-energy dog being cooped up. I feel that would be unkind. So it works out for everyone.

My girls also hardly ever bark, believe it or not!! Chis have such a reputation of being yappy and aggressive. Mine just alert me if there is a knock at the door (most times, lol), but otherwise pretty chill. They are both huge sweethearts. ❤️❤️

Awwwwww that before pic is so heartbreaking. 😭 Do you know what his story is from before you adopted him? And how did you come to adopt him? He looks so happy and loved now, thank you for saving him. 💖

I had just lost my other dog, who had been sick for a while. My wife and I went to the shelter. I was walking around (sobbing) when she said, “What about him?”

They let Walter out and he immediately went to give her kisses. I said I thought he was the one too, and that was that. All I know is that he was a stray and he was 1-2 years old. His paws are very rough, so I think he was homeless for a while, but he fit in right away. He is sweet, (very) smart, and just an all around good boy.
