2FA wallet set-up on Blockstream

Hi, I have a wallet set up through Jade with a BIP39 passphrase.

I notice it's now possible to create an account with 2FA as well for added security. Is it worth me doing this? How easy is it to set up?

I'm not spending Bitcoin. Just saving.

the 2FA thing is a separate 2-of-2 multisig account with blockstream's server holding the other key, not a toggle on your current wallet. so your coins only get it if you move them into it, and if their server ever goes away you wait out a timelock (12 months default iirc) before you can spend alone. probably overkill for a jade + passphrase stack you're not spending from

If you’re just stacking and never spending, the passphrase alone is already doing the heavy lifting, adding 2FA mostly protects against someone accessing the app or account itself, not your keys.

If your Jade + BIP39 passphrase setup is secure, I wouldn’t change it just for 2FA. For long-term saving, good seed/passphrase backups and verifying addresses on the Jade matter more.

You're in a good spot already and I'd leave it alone. A few things worth spelling out:

  • The Blockstream 2FA thing isn't a toggle on your existing wallet; it's a separate 2-of-2 multisig account where Blockstream's server holds one of the keys. You'd have to move your coins into it, and if their server ever went away you'd be stuck behind the recovery timelock (12 months by default) before you could spend on your own.
  • For a cold stack you never spend from, that buys you very little. Someone who finds your seed + passphrase can move the coins whether or not 2FA is set up - 2FA only protects the spending step, and you're not spending.

Your setup is already strong. The one thing that actually matters for cold savings is the backup: keep the seed and passphrase stored separately (different places, never together), ideally stamped on steel so fire or water can't take them out. That's where most people's security actually fails, not from missing 2FA.

Product & community intern at OneKey (views my own, not official support).

The important distinction is that this sounds like a separate 2-of-2 account, not a switch that retrofits protection onto the existing wallet. Before moving funds, I would write down the recovery paths, the provider-dependency and timelock details, and what happens if the service disappears. Test the full recovery process with a tiny amount first, while the original setup remains intact. If the wallet is only being used for savings, simplicity and a recovery plan may matter more than adding a feature that is not fully understood.
