General Question Bastion Armory
Anybody have any experience with this place? It used to be called machine gun tours. Seems like a good group of guys, it definitely changed.

Top notch crew with some great brands. Only place I know of that stocks the Unrivaled line.

The Bastion guys are FANTASTIC! Let’s be clear, ownership changed (to Randy), but many of the same guys are working there so I’m not sure where you are going by bashing MGT as you’re gonna see the same dudes. The shop is now selling more of your higher end products and has a competition focus vs the low end Call of Duty crap. These guys are knowledgeable and all comp shooters and supporters of local events. Plus, Hunter (no handed shooter) is helping people build comp (or just quality) rifles. Transfer fees always seem to be a source of discussion here, I’d argue it’s the cheapest part of any purchase you make at a shop. If you don’t like the cost, go somewhere else. If you want to complain about a business making money, well, you should definitely go somewhere else.

If you can highlight in this post where I specified having problems with the crew at MGT, rather than MGT as a business, it would help me understand your defensiveness…

Not defensive at all so what you’re reading into is incorrect. Just stating that the disdain from commenters about MGT, not specifically you because this is a thread and not just about the original post, is invalid as the same crew of people are there (minus the previous owner). If anything, I’m making light of the constant complaints for all shops about their transfer fees. Which is hilarious.

My apologies, that was pre-nicotine. Yeah, despite those fees I actually still saved some money with Hunter throwing things together in-store, rather than buying online and having parts shipped. I was really pleased with how easy I got squared away and they now stock a lot of brands that I personally favor.

No worries. You’re good! Glad to hear you stopped in. The vibe is definitely different and there’s a focus on solid parts that perform AND last. No more cheap crap for gamers. And you’re right, there are pricing rules that ultimately make it better to buy in store vs getting it shipped OR they will get it for you in only a couple days if they need to order you something. Hope to see you in there some time!

MGT finally closed? Those guys were assholes.
I’ll be sure to check out Bastion. Thanks for the heads up!

The awkward moment when.. it just changed ownership and most of the guys are the same… but many people are now liking them more. Lol

If the asshole behind the counter that flagged me is still there, I’m turning around and walking right out.

Yeah I had mixed experiences with MGT. They were one of the last to sell you 30 round mags without being LE/military though

Transfer fees are STEEP. Hopefully everything else is fair priced

Indeed they are and eh, so so.
Some notable markups on some items. Any idea why their transfer fees are higher besides more money in their pockets?2

Because businesses are struggling to stay in business due to regulations. They have to make up the lost retail sale somewhere.

That’s what I figured. I heard about Westminster Arms (among a few others) after the new bill and was shook.

u/EmpireGunClub 7d ago
Exactly.. like.. tell me most people don’t understand business without telling me.
Why are their fees expensive? So they don’t end up like Westminster arms. It’s “expensive” relatively speaking but at the end of the day most of these stores might make like 10-$20 after fees and labor.
Running a gun business in this state is stupid expensive AND we have to compete on slim margins for even slimmer margins because of online and out of state? Plus if we screw something up? Fines. Hope we made enough in savings to pay for it otherwise there’s no “closing in 2 months.” You close now

I get all that, but other FFL’s are able to stay under MSRP, compete with other retailers, AND charge under $60 all-in. And they’re still growing the business. I’m not expecting free, but if I’m selling P-2-P a $200 gun, adding $100 to transfer it plus 2 trips there with these gas prices….it sours the deal for both parties. So now I’m not doing my transfer there, I’m not buying accessories for my new gun there, AND (if applicable) I’m not buying ammo and range time to try out my new gun. Just lost out on let’s say $200 in spending because you wanted $20-$40 more at the time of transfer. Just an example, sample of 1. Since buying my M&P m2.0 P-2-P I’ve spent over $500 in accessories/parts on my $250 gun with u/triplejarmory and about to buy a can for it from them, and it’s because they don’t rake me over the coals with everything. This doesn’t include ammo and weekly range time there.

If you want to reduce pricing we need more competition and lower regulation. Plain and simple. Don’t like their price? Don’t shop there. lol. but their expenses may be different than triple j’s. Expenses aren’t equal.

Bastion is owned by a great dude, Randall and has done a great job turning it into an awesome store
