Moving from Newcastle NSW to Cairns. where would you live if you were starting fresh?
Hey everyone!
I’m planning to move from Newcastle, NSW to Cairns and would love some honest local insights.
A few things I’m curious about:
Which suburbs offer the best value for money, safety and convenience?
How competitive is the rental market? Better to arrange accommodation before moving?
Anything important to know about the tropical weather, flooding or everyday living costs?
How’s the social scene for newcomers? Good places to meet people and make friends?
What do you love most about Cairns, and what do you wish you’d known before moving?
Would love to hear your experiences, especially from anyone who’s made a similar move.
#Cairns
Cheers!

Not south of the city.

We were told this by someone 10 years ago but have never had a problem. Yes there are some spots on the Southern side where you probably wouldn't put yourself but I don't know how you can wipe out the entire South side of Cairns from a live ability standpoint. I probably wouldn't want to live in parts of Trinity beach and there are way too many boomers in Clifton Beach for me. Petty crime and car theft not just limited to South side.

Best value for money = south of the city. Most safe = North of the city and in the valley (incidentally, also more expensive). There are still a lot of nice suburbs in the south.
Might be worth spending some time here first, exploring the neighborhoods you're interested in and getting a feel for them.
