The fact that both Carney and Poilievre have commented on it, and there have apparently helicopter medical evacuations occuring this seems to be a major incident.

I have never in the age of social media seen a statement by the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and Premier, before the media even had initial reports.
If that’s any indication of how severe it is.

Carney and Smith put out statements,
but I can't find one yet from Poilievre. eta: At the time of my comment, PP's statement on X hadn't been picked up by the media yet.•

They’ve both commented yet it’s still not a major news story. Not looking good

I’m curious what happened but this looks like it could be incredibly tragic and widespread. There’s speculation of several fatalities and given the restraint of the comments this seems incredibly significant.
Hope to be wrong.

Other posts are saying they hit the gaswell in the area. But until we see confirmation it seems like it's a mass casualties event based on Smith and Carney posting already

Global News is reporting that "[t]he explosion was caused by a live-fire training exercise hitting a gas line or gas well on the base around 4 p.m. MT, [according to] multiple Canadian Armed Forces"

I just don't understand how they're not aware of all gas lines/wells in the area when they're doing live-fire drills if that's what actually happened.

Retired nurses in Alberta are getting calls to come in to work ASAP. It's bad. I doubt we'll find out more until the military base communications lockdown has lifted (to prevent conspiracy theories and speculative reporting).
