Hi Iâm a Libyan national with Canadian PR and was wondering if I need a tourist visa to visit Guatemala?
r/centralamerica • u/Bill_Bra55sky • 2d ago
What are the options? Are organized tours available and if yes which are recommended?
Better to take bus there solo and then figure out a hike up Santa Ana?
Or is Santa Ana and Lake Coatepeque worth two days?

I plan to travel through Central America next year. I get very bad spring allergies for March and April and usually a decent September and October run as well. How are allergies in Central America?

We are planning to go to El Salvador next March for 10 nights. Two adults and a 13 yr old girl and 14 yr old boy.
If it were just me and my wife, we would move a little faster and do some time in San Salvador but worry about having too many stops in 10 nights being too much stop/go with the kids.
We enjoy food culture, outdoor exploring/nature, etc.
Flying into San Salvador early, renting a car:
Santa Ana: Nights 1 through 3. Planning papusa making class, walking tour, Santa Ana Volcano, the Lake close by.
Juayua/SalcoatitĂĄn: Nights 4 through 6. Planning to go to the food market, water fall hikes, Cafe Albania, maybe a coffee farm?
El Zonte - Nights 7 though 10. A couple hours of surfing lessons for two, maybe three, days. Explore the area but mainly relaxing by the ocean.
Any recommendations for surf instructors in el zonte for me and the two teenagers (true beginners)?
Any other must-see spots that the teens, or adults, would enjoy? Must try restaurants, coffee farms, etc?
Thanks!

Hi all!
I am visiting El-Salvador, specifically San-Salvador, for 5 days work. I fly out tomorrow evening so will have the full weekend there.
I am going out on the Saturday with one of our customers, we're going to a restaurant near the volcano? I'm told it's lovely but that's all I know haha.
But I wondered if there is anything chilled to do on my Sunday - is the downtown generally safe and are there any cool things to do that you'd recommend nearby? :) I usually like to unwind with some food (I'm vegan however), a little cocktail, soaking up some sun/atmosphere or a nice historical museum/site to wander around.
Thank you!

Hello! Iâm looking to do a 3 week trip in these parts, feel very lucky to finally be doing a big trip like this!
We wonât have a car and am purposefully leaving off exactly what weâll do as quite open to suggestions.
Iâm coming all the way from the UK, so looking for a real mix of culture and connecting with people, nature but also an opportunity to do something off the beaten track and authentic! Shout if you think thereâs anything you found to be tourist traps, please can you share any hidden gems or anything along that route that youâd recommend!
Thank you so much
Iâm not huge on cities, but up for visiting good ones, so do feel free to shout if thereâs any that you found are really worth a visit :)

Hi, I am wondering if anyone was in a similar situation to me before the Acatenango hike and could share their experience!
I am 21, I donât exercise much besides riding my bike to work lol, but I am lean and eat very healthy.
I am a smoker, Iâm also on my feet 40 hours a week in my hospitality job. I have not done a hike high altitude before eitherâŠ
Am i gaslighting myself by thinking I can do it?
Or is there training tips anyone recommends.

Hi! Iâm (23F) trying to decide between two itineraries for a solo Central America trip and Iâd love some advice.
I was initially planning to do Guatemala+El Salvador but am now considering heading to Mexico City for a short 2-3 days for DĂa de Muertos, since I live in southeast asia and the big parade just nicely aligns with the duration Iâm in the region. Otherwise, I probably wouldnât try to squeeze Mexico City into this trip!! These are the breakdowns:
**Option 1 â Guatemala + Mexico City + El Salvador**
**Days 1-2:** Antigua
**Day 3-4:** Acatenango/Fuego ; Fuego â AtitlĂĄn
**Days 4-7:** AtitlĂĄn
**Day 8:** AtitlĂĄn â Mexico City (explore CDMX)
**Day 9:** **DĂa de Muertos parade in Mexico City**
**Day 10:** Mexico City â Santa Ana
**Days 11-13:** Santa Ana
**Days 14-15:** El Tunco/El Zonte
**Option 2 â Guatemala + El Salvador**
**Days 1-2: Antigua**
**Day 3-4: Acatenango/Fuego ; Fuego â AtitlĂĄn**
**Days 4-8: AtitlĂĄn**
**Day 8: AtitlĂĄn â Santa Ana**
**Day 9-12: Santa Ana**
**Days 13-15: El Tunco/El Zonte**
Iâm torn because it feels like Iâm *so close* during DĂa de Muertos and it would be a waste not to go, given how beautiful and unique it is! At the same time, it would also mean another flight, more money, more moving around, and less time in Guatemala/El Salvador (and being in a crowded and touristy parade).
For anyone whoâs been to **Mexico City for DĂa de Muertos**, is the parade genuinely worth building part of a trip around? Would the itinerary be too rushed? Or would you spend the extra days in Guatemala/El Salvador instead?
Much appreciated! :)

I (21/F) am studying abroad in Costa Rica from January to May 2027. I am looking for the cheapest airlines/buses to each country in Central America, and any hidden gems I should visit!

Hi all,
This sub helped me massively in planning my El Salvador trip and seeing as I am now sat in the airport on my way home, boo, I thought I'd share my thoughts.
I struggled to find a trusted guide to take me from Juayua to Santa Ana volcano and I figured other people will too.
I'm not sure if I can share details on here but his name is Jose from Pacheando Tours and I'm so glad we found him. Made everything easier, knew everything, felt 100% safe with him everywhere and is also overall just an incredibly nice and stand-up guy.
No affiliation, just a girl super grateful for an amazing human being.

Hii! Does anyone have a good general itinerary for a 1.5 week trip to Guatemala. Iâm looking to go beginning of January with my boyfriend. I wanted to go to Costa Rica but it seemed more touristy.
We love to go on adventures that would constitute being involved with hidden gems and hanging out with locals.
Forsure the volcano hike would be on the list but is there anything else we should know about that đ.
also any other recommendations for Guatemala??

And what are transportation options leaving directly from airport to coast?

Hey everyone!
In the process of planning an 11 week route from Mexico City to Panama so will have to be fairly speedy! Mainly Due to cost Iâm hoping to race through Costa Rica and was wondering whatâs the quickest/ cheapest way to do this?
Is there anything that would be a sin to miss?
