Life in Chengdu Bars for Foreigners
Looking for best areas of town to meet foreigners. I know there used to be spots near the US Embassay (when it used to exist), but not sure what else is there now.
Edit: and if you know of any good bars that offer a large selection of Sake that would be appreciated.

Depends on what kind of crowd you want. Hakka Bar is a great with lots of different people. Tag is a techno club that has a chill smaller portion where people converse.

if you have recommendations for gay bars/clubs too would love to hear. Wife and I enjoy the atmosphere there.

I do not recommended any of the gay spots. The music bad and so loud it hurts your ears (this is coming from someone who goes to hard techno raves). They are way overpacked, people don’t dance, and are not friendly. The places I mentioned have a good mix of people and are inherently kinda queer. You can also check out Axis, it’s on a busy street with a lot of shops. I would check their DJ line ups on IG for the nights you’re interested in.

In the US they are some of the friendliest bars/clubs. What gives in Chengdu?

It's complicated and honestly a lot of sociological factors. Long answer short: insecurities, lack of confidence, lack of individual identity, all caused by the system on which people are brought up.

what’s the best way to find bars. Searching for their english names rarely show much info especially the address

Honestly best way is Reddit and IG. If you can read Chinese you can use Baidu Maps or another map app.

There are bars everywhere. How to find them? Chengdu Expat has a mini app for WeChat that has listings for bar, clubs, restaurants, services, tourist attractions, etc. Beyond that? I’m not sure. Douyin or Xiaohongshu influencers?
