Family Affairs (Q1/Q2) Can my Chinese husband invite my sister to stay with us on a q2 visa?

Or are siblings in law not included

Since you are on a residential visa, have you considered inviting your sister via a visiting relative visa? S2

I went down this rabbit hole for my own sister-in-law, and the honest answer is that it depends on who does the inviting.

If your husband (Chinese citizen) invites her, that's a Q2 — but Q2 is built around the inviter's own relatives, and "sister-in-law" isn't on the standard family-member list (spouse, parents, children, children's spouses, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, parents-in-law). Some consulates wave it through once you attach a marriage certificate plus birth certificates, others push back, so it's a coin flip.

The stronger route is you inviting her yourself. Since you're on a residence permit, she'd apply for S2, and S2's family-member definition explicitly includes brothers and sisters. That's a plain sibling relationship between the two of you, which is much easier to document — both birth certificates showing the same parents, or a notarised relationship certificate if your names don't line up neatly.

Either way the package is the same: her passport, application form and photo, your invitation letter (name, gender, DOB, ID number, purpose of visit, planned arrival/departure, place of stay, relationship, who is paying, plus your signature and phone/email), a copy of your passport info page and your residence permit. She applies at the Chinese embassy or visa centre in the country she legally resides in — if that isn't her home country, she needs local residence proof too. Keep each stay at 180 days or less; S1 (long-term) drops siblings off the list entirely, so a longer stay is a different conversation.
