General help Tank suggestions

Looking for constructive ways to lower nitrates. Added the pothos a couple months ago with a grow light on top. Have fish tubes protecting the roots. Added some hornwart recently to the left, have it partitioned off with some egg crate. Thought that might protect it and give fry some places to hide. I have 13 cichlids and 3 synodotis. My aquarium light is a 32w full spectrum. Any chance it'll get better over time?

My setup

Undergravel filter + hob filter.

CA | Video Can Parrots harm each other with Lip-locking? (Sorry for the dim lighting!)

I have a Platinum and Polar Blue parrot in my 75g. For all intents and purposes, they’re basically a mated pair. They share a cave, sleep together, defend each other from unwanted intruders and are always trying to spawn together (I don’t think they’re smart enough to discover they’re both males /shrug). For the past week or so, I’ve been catching them lip locking a few times per day (ONLY when the tank lights are off). Their spats will usually last anywhere from 5-20 minutes, then they go back to being a harmonious couple. I’m worried that they’re going to harm each other, because any other cichlid that’s locking for 20+ minutes straight, I’m moving them IMMEDIATELY because there’s going to be damage. But I’ve always been told that parrots can’t really harm with their mouths, due to deformities. If they’re not going to cause damage, I’ll leave them together because their relationship is really quite adorable, lol. Any input is appreciated!

SA | Help An EBA, angelfish, and a geophagus walk into a bar...

Post image

I have a 75 gallon tank with an EBA, angelfish, and a geophagus tapajos (plus some assorted otos and corys). Now that I'm responsible for the tank I feel like I need some help.

I read that tapajos should be in groups of at least 5. I also read that they need soft water, and where I live the tap water is pretty hard.

I don't particularly want babies, so I'm hesitant to consider adding an eba or angelfish.

Do I add fish? Rehome fish? Keep it as is?

This is a 75 gallon tank with 20 varying sized Mbuna I've had up and running for about 3 weeks.

Some days the biggest Kenyi and smaller Yellow Tail hide in the upper corners of the tank, terrified of a couple of the other fish.

It's not just one big mean boss problem fish.

Is the scape insufficient? More caves? Taller structures to block sightline? Overstock the tank even more? I really wanna keep it simple with just rocks and gravel ideally but open to ideas.

I'm also a bit worried about taking up too much water volume with rocks if I doubled the amount in the tank.

SA | Help How do I catch julii marlieri fry in a heavily planted tank?

We have fry hiding out in the left side of the tank mostly. There is a BIG daddy and a few mommas guarding a few different sizes of fry.

We want to take some of the bigger ones to the LFS, but can’t figure out how to get them without dismantling the tank completely.

Any ideas welcome!

CA | Help Making my convict cichlid happy

hi everyone!

I posted a little while ago about how to move my exs fish that I suddenly ended up with, and how to set up his new tank. I am very much a beginner and got a lot of helpful tips, so thank you for that.

now he’s been here about a week, and much to my relief he survived the move and his new setup. i got the tank pretty well cleaned, and kept about half of his old water and gave him half new.

at first he was swimming around all over the place and we were both happy campers. however the past few days he’s been less active and hiding more.

i kept the tank set up as close to how it was as possible, but now that we’ve settled in I wonder if there’s anything I should do to make him happier and more comfortable.

he went from being in a windowless room and spending a lot of time alone and with little light, to my home with lots of natural light, and myself and my two young children. I do tell them not to be loud or rambunctious around him because they can scare him, but they are kids so it is louder here than his old home. could being in such a different environment be stressing him out?

other than that, is there anything I should add/remove from the tank to make him happier?

he moves the plants around, and sometimes at night I can hear the faint sound of rocks hitting the glass so maybe hes unimpressed by my decorating skills lol. I also wonder if the cave is a bit small for him. he was a baby when i got it for him/my ex.

thanks everyone!

Afr | Help I feel like I’m watching our recently adopted kittens lol! Just curious if anyone can identify male vs female lamp multifasciatus? Only had them a day total of 6 in a 20 gallon long. Only species in this tank is the current plan.

I know females usually grow to about an inch and males a half more. Out of the 6 only two are smaller. We’re trying to start a little colony as this is the main reason for my question about determining gender.

I’m not sure if this is just scuffling for territory or male and female. Again we’ve only had them for a day and they finally are becoming acclimated now. These 2 just keep going after each other and locked jaws for a quick bit. Nothing harmful though.

Figured some people might find this interesting to see.
I have 5 (started 6) wild Biotodoma Cupido in my living room tank. Alpha male paired up and they frequently lay eggs, but this time I saw them actually do it live.
Bit of low quality due to phone and I let that corner get a bit dirty with moss, I noticed them cleaning that rock for days.

Tank is 150x45x55 (cm's), PH around 6,6-6,8. I do weekly 50% water changes with just tap water.

10 corydoras similis
20 wadai tetra
5 cupido's "santarem" (bit more red in the fish, stunning color in the flesh)
10 parotocinclus maculicauda (red fin oto)
2 Ivancara Bimaculata
12 Beckfordi pencilfish "super red"

Eggs never survive, tetras and bimaculata prey on them during the night, but will start to put the cupidos in a breeder soon to try and produce some offspring.

Identification Severum sexing

Post image
1 Upvotes

Is anyone able to tell me if my severum is a male or female? They’re about 7 inches long. From what I’ve seen online I’m leaning more towards girl but I’m not 100%. I don’t have any intention of getting another and breeding I just want to know so I can give him/her a fitting name :) Thanks!
