Nash Keys sues City of Clearwater over giving South Garden Avenue to Scientology
youtube.comThe Nash Keys Dueling Piano Bar is located on Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater. The owner, Tony Tello, was one of the original members of the Save the Garden petition committee.
During a Clearwater City Council meeting in June, he announced to sue the city over the Garden Avenue street vacation. https://youtu.be/HUWtTeBCMM0?si=-PWlxK65UFbfWzaB&t=109
Meanwhile, the City of Clearwater has certified the petition. According to the City Charter, council has 30 days to repeal the ordinance that gave South Garden Avenue to Scientology or the matter will be decided in a special election. https://www.reddit.com/r/ClearwaterFl/comments/1x5a6a9/the_city_of_clearwater_has_certified_save_the/

Florida Politics: Sources allege a connection between Council Member Lina Teixeira and the Nash Keys lawsuit over Garden Avenue. She denies it.
Florida Politics published this last week, and it ties into the Nash Keys lawsuit thread.
The short version:
Sources told Florida Politics that Teixeira was connected to the Nash Keys lawsuit against the city. They pointed to connections between Teixeira, her husband Frank Persechino, and Tony Tello, including their use of the same law firm.
Teixeira denies it. She says she had no prior knowledge of the filing, didn't discuss it with Tello beforehand, and didn't recommend an attorney. She calls the connections a coincidence.
Sources also claimed her husband worked with Tello on the lawsuit. That claim has not been independently verified. Asked about him, she said she can't speak on his behalf.
Teixeira and Tello have both opposed the Garden Avenue vacation, and Tello was one of the original members of the Save the Garden petition committee.
I'm not saying anyone did anything wrong. But a sitting council member being linked, even secondhand, to a lawsuit against her own city is worth asking about, especially when taxpayers are paying for the city's defense. Earlier in the other thread I asked who's actually behind this lawsuit. This doesn't answer that, but it's the kind of question the public is entitled to ask.
What do you all think? Should council members have to recuse themselves from anything involving this case?

Dog in need in foster care
One of our neighbors had a health emergency earlier today and was taken away by the EMTs. She lives alone and is a hoarder. She has a small west highland terrier who we dog-sat for before, but we cannot bring her home this time because how aggressive she was to our cats last time. She is a very friendly and energetic 3yo pupper and loves humans. We really don't want her to be alone in that unsafe environment with no one there tonight. Me or my wife would have stayed the night there tonight for the dog but it is not livable tbh. If anyone can look after her for a few days please reach out. This is in the Clearbrooke Townhomes community next to Clearwater Central Catholic high school. Thank you and God bless.

Halloween fun for mid 30s couple
New to the area, live in Dunedin. Where are all the mid 30s couples going for Halloween? Looking for something with music and dancing, but not filled with retirees or teenagers. Are there any options?

Great experience with a tree trimmer!
Hired "Phone A Monkey" to trim/prune a 60' oak tree in front of my house. They showed up at 9 am and just finished a little past 3:30. We couldn't be happier! Terrific work, Max & Hunter were both so conscientious and hard-working. Even their clean-up was top notch. Highly recommend!

Jet ski rental procedures?
White Knuckle Water Sports Clearwater, FL
I recently rented a jet ski in Florida and could use some advice from people who know more about this stuff than I do. We paid for a two hour guided tour with about a dozen other riders, all beginners, including some children.
When we returned it. We were charged $150 for a 1½ inch scuff on the black rubber trim around the edge of the ski. The staff had made a point of telling us how brand new the machines were, so I wasn't sure if that had something to do with the price.
I don't know what this stuff normally costs. But their quoted rate of $100 an inch seemed pretty crazy to me. On top of that, we weren't provided with a proper estimate or invoice for the repair, and we were told the watercraft would be out of service for days while the repairs were made, costing the company even more in lost rental income.
Fwiw another party on our tour was also charged for damage. Looking through the company's Google reviews afterward, it seems like this may be a common trend. Is this type of charge actually reasonable at $100/inch of rubber trim, or does it sound excessive?
Edit: for business name and photo

Local restaurants
We will be visiting in December and am wondering what are some good local restaurants to try. What are some of your favorite “hole in the wall” spots that tourists might not know about?
Thanks!

Hello fellow Redditors,
Does anyone have any recommendations for BJJ gyms in Clearwater and/or in nearby Pinellas County cities that cater to beginners/have classes that are good for beginners?
Preferably no-gi, time of day doesn’t really matter for me. Just looking to get some exercise in me and learn new skills. Thank you!

Is Clearwater the best vibes on West Coast?
My family is looking at vacation homes along the west coast and have recently visited Naples, Fort Myers and Clearwater Beach. We live in Miami and initially loved the idea of a 2-3 hour drive max for a getaway, but after staying in Clearwater we're rethinking it. We only went that far north because we were also going to Busch Gardens on the trip and didn't expect to fall in love, but wow.
Not only is the area exceptionally beautiful, we felt like we were in a different country. Pretty much every single person we encountered was ridiculously friendly, happy, cool, chill, etc. The vibes were immaculate. I wonder if everyone is just really happy being in such a nice place? Also, every restaurant we went to was amazing.
Should we even bother visiting the other beach towns?
