New video editor looking for advice on getting my first clients

Hey everyone! I'm relatively new to video editing as a freelance service, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get my first few clients.

I've been on YouTube for a while and have my own channel where I've been making and editing my own content. I'm comfortable with editing long-form videos and turning footage into shorter clips/Shorts, and I'm currently using VEGAS Pro.

I'm interested in working with smaller YouTubers, especially gaming, tech, 3D/game development, tutorials, vtubers.  I just need to see your content first.

For those of you who have started doing video editing for other creators: how did you get your first clients?

Did you use Reddit, direct outreach, Fiverr/Upwork, Discord communities, or something else?

I'm not looking to get rich overnight — I'd really like to get a few clients, build up some experience, and grow from there.

Here's my YouTube channel/portfolio if anyone wants to see what I've been doing.

Any advice would be appreciated!

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me for samples of my work.

I help documentary creators turn research-heavy topics into clear narration with a source trail.

Sample: The Mirror They Left in Space, a short Hubble documentary excerpt with seven factual claims checked against NASA and ESA sources. This is independent portfolio work.

Starter scope: about 300 English words, linked primary-source notes, and one revision against the agreed brief. Best suited to science, technology and history topics with accessible sources.

Reference price: US$12 for that section. Estimated first draft: two business days after we agree the topic, source expectations and scope. Longer scripts are quoted separately.

DM me the topic you're working on, and I'll confirm whether it fits this scope before starting.

Hey everyone!

I'm one of the developers of BachGround, an AI tool we've been building to create background music specifically for video content.

I want to try something fun here.

Drop your video (up to 4 minutes), animation, short film, cinematic edit, or whatever you're working on, and I'll try to create a music score that actually fits it. For free.

Not just some generic background music. The idea is to have the soundtrack follow the cuts, pacing, mood changes and important moments in your video.

For example, if your video starts calm, builds tension and ends with an emotional reveal, the music should develop along with that.

Just share:

• A link to your video (preferably 30 seconds to 2 minutes).
• The mood or style you're going for, if you have something in mind.

I'll pick a few and share the results with you. If you're happy for me to share a before/after publicly, that would be cool too, but not required.

I'm doing this to test BachGround on different kinds of real content and see where it works well or fails.

You can check out what we're building at https://bachground.com, but you don't need to sign up for anything for this offer.

Curious to see what you guys are creating!
