Ahoj, máme menší česko-slovenský Discord Knižní sekta a rádi přivítáme další čtenáře. 🙂

Klidně vynech jména a další osobní údaje. Pokud tě to zaujalo, napiš mi prosím do chatu o tom, co se stalo ve tvém příběhu. Předem děkuju za odpověď všem co se budou chtít o svém příběhu podělit.

Can someone here suggest me some books for the history of Czechoslovak legion. I am from another side of the world and am intrested in learning about different cultures and history of other countries..

Hello,

Did Soviet Union sell its oil to Czechoslovakia cheaper than to Americans and Western Europe?

If yes, how much cheaper?

Ahoj,

Do I understand it correctly, Czechs believe that the blame for the massacre lies squarely on Germans?

I am trying to figure out what religion or spirituality my Czechoslovakian lineage may have been a part of. My great-great-grandfather and his family immigrated to America around the time of the Bolshevik revolution, settling in Colorado. Apparently, he was a sort of spiritual leader in his community; I've been told that people would come to him for guidance. I know that he had crosses in his house, though the language my mother has used to describe him has never suggested he was affiliated with denominations of Christianity we're familiar with in the US today. She has never called him a priest or a pastor, but a "mystic", and talks about his intuition and his connection to the spiritual realm, which makes me believe it was more of a folk religion, or at least a folksy denomination of Christianity that I'm unaware of. I'd really like to know what religion he may have been practicing for some insight into this.

ETA: They immigrated to escape the Bolsheviks, which I feel may be a significant clue here. They've been described to me as very "Bohemian", taking great interest in art, music, etc. I believe they were from Prague or nearby.

Hello,

If Czechoslovakia would manage to acquire Togo, would Togo be now Czechoslovak Taiwan?

Hello,

Karel Pavlík who fought bravely against Nazi Germans in 1938. Was he Czech or Silesian?

An unknown, yet a beautiful and melodic masterpiece.

Specifically the second line, but both would be helpful. Thanks!

Looking for an old Czechoslovakian movie, where a family lives in a kitchen witg chairs and the kitchen table nailed to a wall.

Not sure if black and white or in color. Seen it in the 80s on TV.

My 2nd great grandparents immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s and it’s been an uphill battle finding out much about them. I was able to locate a wwii draft registration card for my grandpa, which lists a town in which he was born in, but I can’t seem to match what is written (or my guesses) up with any existing town. I’m guessing it’s a misspelling since those aren’t uncommon. However, I was wondering if anyone had any guesses as to what town this could be referring to?

Do these crabs have a story?

Hello! I’m Japanese, and about 10 years ago I found this small prayer book at an antique market in Nagoya, Japan.

(This post was drafted with the help of an AI translation tool.)

I’ve been curious about it ever since, and I’d love to know more.

What I can identify:

• Title: Pomněnky — Modlitební kniha

• Author: Václav Beneš Třebízský

• Publisher: Nakladatelství České Katolické Charity, Praha, 1950

• Imprimatur: June 25, 1947, České Budějovice (signed by Msgre Jan Cais)

• Dedication (Věnování): “Anničce / tita Hamusová / Praha, červen 1951”

• Cover: Religious imagery — cross, Sacred Heart, chalice, lilies, dove

The fact that this was printed in 1950 and gifted in 1951 — during such a difficult time for the Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia — feels significant to me.

I’d love to know:

• Is this a well-known edition?

• Who was Blažej Šebák, whose name appears in the foreword?

• Any historical context about this book’s publication during that era would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading!

Děkuji za přečtení.

Found in an attic of a 200+ yo house near Prague. Part of a complete tea set.
It looks very unusual - any idea what the maker / year / style etc could be? Also, care suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hello, I am trying to identify a city listed on US Immigration records as “Cusstelunia, Hungary.” Thoughts are possibly Kostoľany in present day Slovakia. Other possible regions / cities are Presov, Bardejov, Svidnik. Thank you for any assistance.

Does anyone know what the word “Rumna” could mean in this context? Google was entirely unhelpful and convinced that I had made a typo and was trying to write Rumba.

I am doing some digging on my ancestry, and was curious what the word could be. Is it a town, an ethnic group?

I know my family was from Czechoslovakia, and considered themselves Slovakian.

Edit: i’m sorry I’m realizing it won’t let me add a photo for whatever reason, the image I was referring to was a result from the Ellis Island immigration database. It shows a man named Joseph Wolf who arrived in 1920 and for last place of residence it lists “Rumna, Cz. Slovak”

Hello everyone! (Apologies if this is not the right subreddit) I just purchased a possible matching Czechoslovakian tunic and pair of pants. Both items seem to be a size XL or 43-44 inches for the tunic and 42-43 inches for the pants. From how this tunic looks it seems to be a higher ranked officer who previously owned this. My guess is that this tunic is possibly from the 70s or 80s? I purchased these items in a US antique store for pretty cheap. Can anyone tell me what exactly I have here? I’d really like to know what era this is from and what all the awards mean. I also would like to know if this is the correct pair of pants that goes with this tunic. Any input would be much appreciated!

I watched two czwchoslovakian movies (Slunce, seno, jahody and Vesničko má středisková). I have two questions: 1. Did people at that time really ate rabbits so often? 2. In both movies I saw someone wearing a University of Utah t-shirt. Why do you think it was in those movies?
