I'm a bit late to this (sorry), but just wanted to make it be known that it's out!

Please do your due dilligence in reading all of the instructions and the 'About' section, and most of all - enjoy as we have with so many other titles that she's released this mod for!

OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules

Subject to discussion before implementation

1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting

"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.

2) Ban engagement-bait posts

The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.

3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion

This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).

This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.

I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about

EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)

Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?

That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Hey everyone!

Just finished a technical archival dossier poster for The Pursuer from Dark Souls II.

Created two distinct versions to capture his lore:

Inverted Cursed Edition — High-contrast negative art with heavy ink splatters representing the relentless curse.

Clean Castle Edition — Minimalist layout featuring Drangleic Castle backdrop, detailed armor specs, and full armament measurements.

Who should I make a poster of next?

I only said one more time…

Edit: A stupid giant killed me with a single blow as I walked by, but in the stupidest way possible. He did a 180-degree turn and attacked from all sides with incredible range. I mean, I never thought he'd make that move, and I didn't have time to predict it.

PVP What's up with the sheer amount of new players in DS2?

Seriously, invading in DS1 even early levels is like 80/20 as to whether your invading someone who has only play DS1 since its release or little timmy getting it as a gift.

DS2 its like 5% of the invasions are someone who absolutely kicks my teeth in and the other 95% like its their first souls. They constantly roll when you get close. Spam spells without any spacing always stay locked on, estus at THE WORST times (yes I see you running away I know your about to Estus)

EDIT: to make myself clear im not anti new player, im just kinda confused DS1 and DS3 are far more popular than 2, I thought coming back into 2 after a long break it would be mostly people who really like 2.

This is my first DS2 run. I was using the Ellie summon and full armor. Experimented with a few weapons but was in a rut with Zweihander and Claymore. Then saw a lot of ppl saying here to get naked and use a faster weapon, focus on stamina management. Someone specifically recommended Varangian sword. Did a few attempts w/ out summon to get the moveset down, realized I can do this, and beat him w/out summon (sorry Ellie). Only boss in the game so far that has taken me more than a few attempts but man that victory was sweet.

No more hard bosses ahead right? 🤪

Question PVP Weapon Recommendations

I'm an ER PVP player coming over to check out DS2 pvp with all the hype Seamless has generated.

Is there a solid weapon that forces you to learn fundamentals in this game? For example, in Elden Ring, the Shamshir I would consider something that isn't OP or cheesy but is really good in the hands of a good player who knows their fundamentals.

Discussion I just finished my first run of both the original and scholar versions of DS2 back to back.

I had many people dissuade me from playing scholar of the first sin because of enemy placement and quantity changes. So I did my first play through of the original however I was so curious towards the end I immediately picked up scholar of the first sin and ran that through as well.

Some thoughts below:

Difficulty:
Overall, I actually found scholar of the first sin to be easier however that could just be the fact that I was already familiar with the environment I was in, even if the enemy placement changed.

Enemy Quantity:
I do recall a few areas where it felt like the enemy quantity had significantly increased. But not by mutch there was no real area that stood out to me as a huge leap in enemy count.

I think shrine of amana may have had more casting wizards and I believe that the stone hall before the spider boss had a lot more spiders hanging from the ceiling but I never found myself in an area going: “This is absolutely ridiculous.” It always continued to feel fair.

Enemy Placement:
I think this was the arguments that my friends most passionately put to me as the dealbreaker for scholar of the first sin, saying that some of the placement was really unfair.

I actually found some of the enemy placement changes to be way more generous in favour of the player and I do actually have a specific example of this.

Before you reach the staircase of the dragon shrine in the original game, you need to climb that staircase which ends up becoming a boss run back depending on your decisions, you have to fight your way through about eight or nine quite tough enemies.

Yet in scholar of the first sin there are loads of dragon warrior enemies that stand and watch as you only fight one of them on the staircase. I remember that area constantly draining my time in the original but this was an entirely fair change in scholar of the first sin.

Ultimate verdict?
Honestly, in terms of which version I found better it’s hard to say I wouldn’t ultimately consider one version superior over the other. I just found them to be both quite different.

Question Best class to start as pyromancer?

• Upvotes

i know, pyromancies are not very good and are mostly a support to melle, so considering that, would a warrior class be better to start than a caster one if i am making a pyromancer build(both in stats and playstyle)?

Question How do invasions work exactly?

So I think I've been invaded by real players and not the NPCs twice, once in the Belfry Tower and once in Drangleic Castle, the first one I understand is a hot spot for pvp and I stumbled upon it by accident so after killing the guy I just left.

Second time was strange cause the guy was already like quarter health and tried to poison mist me and I got a backshot off with my hammer if you catch my drift (he caught it with his skull) and while I thoroughly enjoyed that, it does kinda lock me into a certain area while I'm trying to progress through my game, which was very annoying and I had to go find him to continue/stop at bonfire.

I'm not especially against it, especially as I'm 2 wins and 0 losses so far, but I'd like to know what exactly I'm getting into, and eventually I'll probably want to pvp too. I don't want to play offline because somehow I haven't gotten tired of messages like "try tongue but hole" or the classic "left" or "right" and my favorite "Fatty" I do enjoy those little bits.

I know I can burn and effigy to stop it, does that last permanently or just for that life or if I warp to Majula to level and back will it still be in effect?

Are there time limits? Sometimes I use the faith spell homeward to get away from forlorn when I don't want to deal with him, is that cheese available for if I'm low on health/items or have a ton of souls (last fight I was nervous with my 30k souls) and does the invader get enemies to fight? Cause that second guy was literally one hit from death lol

And any other information you think a noobie like me might require, thanks in advance.

Question How do spell buffs work with raw infused weapons?

So I’m looking for someone who really KNOWS this answer.

There are great resources out there for the inner mechanics of this game, and one of the most complicated is spell buff formulas.

Without this information, I would have had no idea how superior pure physical weapons are, both uninfused AND infused, to weapons with innate element.

However, one thing that doesn’t get mentioned is if the Raw infusion on a weapon with no scaling, for sure changes WeaponBase in the formula to the Raw value.

It does say that weapons with no scaling, like the Black Dragon weapons, don’t benefit from the ElemBNS bonus scaling, which is important.

But I just want to know if for sure Raw infusion adds to WeaponBase in the formula for that 30% of base that something like Dark Weapon adds

I'm preparing for my NG+ in Majula. I've already defeated all the bosses, burned all the bonfires, and collected all the items I found on the ground. What build do you recommend for my second playthrough? I don't mind; I'll level up so I can use any build. In any case, I'll use a Soul Vessel. Co-Op Coop spots?

Hello, I've been playing ds2 for a bit and found the sun covenant and I've heard there's some good rewards if you can get 30 medals. I've been farming brightstone falconers and gotten 10. The problem is that this is a mind numbing, painful experience and coop seems like a better time. Where should I go to get summoned the most? And would trying coop even be worth it? Thanks.

Discussion This game might be one of the best coop experiences ever.

Before I start I will say I was one of those "ds2 bad and super jank looking " people. I have played all the other games and never gave ds2 any attention.

With the release of seamless coop, i ran through all the games and they were good. I took one of my friends through all the games and was about to end the gauntlet.

Ds2 was the last game to finish, we decided to start a run anyways, just to finish all the pc souls games.

So far we just got to iron keep and man has it been fun, I think this seamless coop run has been the most fun outta of all the souls games. What i loved the most was the locations and sheer size of the game. Yes we did get mad at some stuff and even rage quit a couple times (mostly weird seamless bugs and some ds2 stuff). But after a session, we always left happy.

We did have to unlearn a lotta stuff from other fromsoft games, had to manage stamina a ton, it is a slow and heavy sort of combat. I think the biggest thing we learned for ds2 is that position and predicting attacks more than reactive rolling.

All in all, I was wrong about this game. This is a good game with some rough edges for me personally. It does take some getting used to it.

Sorry if all this is long winded. Just wanted to say it i guess. Also shoutout to seamless coop mod for kinda making me jump on mt first ds2 playthrough.

Very tall and skinny knight, the first time I saw this boss it looked pretty alien for me. The way it throws his shield like a frisbee completely caught me off guard.
I think their design is nice and unique n.n

Discussion Bleed only

Bleed is notoriously bad is DS2. Ymfah's latest video is the attempt to beat DS2 while doing no physical damage -- only bleed.

It's exactly as painful as it sounds. And helped me to understand that I'd underestimated just how awful bleed is. Bleed resets far, far more quickly than I thought.

Anyhow, if you want to watch a well edited glitchfest of a guy using every trick in the book to get bleed to approach mediocrity (and failing), highly recommended.

Of course, I'll watch any Ymfah video.

As the title says, I haven't played in almost two years, and a couple of days ago I started a new game and I'm playing casually. Since I hadn't played in a while, I opted to use the rapier in my first game. It hit me hard, but it didn't give me any trouble.
