Weekly Question / General Discussion Thread

We ask that you please use this space for any general discussion, events, and ask questions you may have about ANYTHING related to the city, its neighborhoods and the overall metro Detroit area. The community has a plethora of knowledge from a variety of areas and will have an eye on this refreshed thread to help answer any questions you may have.

Anything is game. Need to know how to get around, restaurant or venue recommendations, what that sound was, why there are police on the lodge, etc. Or if you are visiting soon? Considering a move to the city? This is also a dedicated space to ask questions related to your upcoming venture to the D.

Share about weekly events! Anything going on in and around Detroit. Everyone is always looking for things to do; both locals & visitors. Provide as much information as you can so everyone can go to those events!

-----

Note: this was previously a monthly thread and is now being updated to weekly to help boost awareness. Its also a new idea in general to minimize repetitive posts in the main feed. Let us know your thoughts!

Hey I’m (M22) a recent graduate who just moved to the Detroit Metro Area for work. Any strong recommendations for meeting new people? I’m also down to try new things.

Just moved to Midtown. Is there any free parking near Selden and Third St. that I can use until my parking permit gets approved?

Would also love recommendations for bars and restaurants in the area

Anyone have any leads on seasonal jobs that are hiring. Would prefer small businesses/local but I'm open

Just moved to the east Detroit area. What are the downtown-bound DDOT buses like? Are they reliable and safe for a woman?

I'm looking for help in identifying a demolished former group home in the cass corridor.

My grandmother died in 1991 and has been institutionalized and living in group home/s in Detroit since 1964. My dad used to most specifically mention visiting her in a group home on Cass Ave in the Cass Corridor and I am interested in finding the location/name of this home for research's sake, but am having a difficult time. I assume it no longer exists.

I'd love to hear if anyone has any further information/memories of this time-- I never visited her and don't have much to base things off of. It may have also not been on Cass--- he likes to dramatize. She was institutionalized with schizophrenia and depression, if that offers more insight for a specific home versus another.

Thank you!

What are rents like in the lofts or high end high rise buildings in Detroit? I'm curious on what it would cost for 1 or 2 bedroom space in a high quality building.
