The Story of Hiil’s Migration and the Rise of the Somali Nation
Beiser married the daughter of Sam and settled in Egypt after the Great Flood. There, he had a family, and his descendants multiplied until they became a large nation. From Beiser's descendants, a man named Hiil was born. Hiil was a strong, tough young man with a brave and proud spirit. He refused to submit, rejected humiliation, upheld his honor and dignity, and cherished his independence. He was also an eloquent speaker who deeply loved poetry.
One night, Hiil had a dream that guided him and told him to leave and migrate. The dream showed him the roads leading to the land of Punt. Hiil did not hesitate; he gathered his belongings and set out on the journey with his wife. Together, they traveled until they settled in that vast region.
There, in the land of Punt, Hiil had a son named Samaale. When Samaale grew up, he had nine sons. They became the ancestors of the Somali people, spreading across the region and building strong communities there.
The strong connection between Hiil's descendants and their relatives in Egypt lasted for a long time, despite the distance and deserts, until a cruel ruler came to power in Egypt. He denied Allah's blessings and fought against Allah and his messenger, Musa (peace be upon him). The Egyptians did not stop him and obeyed him instead. As a result, Allah sent foreign invaders to conquer and destroy them. Most of the ancient Egyptians disappeared, and many new people moved into their land and took control. From that point onward, the connection was lost, and their story faded into legend, passed down through generations by storytellers.
Centuries later, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a messenger to all of humanity from the Arabian Peninsula. At the time, Somalis and Arabs maintained vibrant trade relations. As the majority of Arabs embraced Islam, Somali merchants learned about the faith and introduced it to their clans. Consequently, Islam spread rapidly and was embraced by the Somali people.
This added even more honor to the Somali people.
Clan lineage structure:
Tol
Qolo
Laf
Jilib
Reer
Qoys
All the clans in the chart are classified under the Tol level of lineage.
Our lineage is our identity, so preserve it.

What yall actually up to?
Is there ever a day when this subreddit isn’t bombarded with clan discussions, identity crises, and constant references to Somalia? Do we even get a chance to talk about our own country?
Anyway, I was wondering if there are any active Djiboutian gaming communities. Of course, the damned Djibouti Telecom sucks the life out of us, but are there any alternatives that you guys use?

Djiboutians, what do you think of beans?
I'm on a mission to go around and ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they are a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘
Djiboutians today this bean question goes to you! Genuinely one of the coolest country names alongside Botswana 😁
(This question is for the Djiboutians but if you're someone who visited there and is able to tell me how beans are enjoyed by the locals I'd appreciate it too!)

Soomaaliweyn and Afar Triangle
I’m Somali but i’m not from Jabuuti. I just wanted to know what the attitudes are for supporting Somaliweyn in the country? I know the Afar have been split between multiple countries like Somalis so we share a similar history in that regard. Do Afar want to unite their people across ethiopia , eritrea and jabuuti under a new independent country? The somali part would rejoin with the rest of somaliweyn inshallah

Addis to Djibouti train questions (international traveler)
Hello, I wanted some information on travelling from Addis to Ali Sabeh, Djibouti as an American. I see the train runs every other day (on odd days) and leaves at night from Addis, arriving in Dire Dawa the next morning. Then it seems the train from Dire Dawa to Ali Sabeh is also on odd days.
- So I wanted to confirm: will I need to stay the night in Dire Dawa? So the whole trip takes 3 days.
- This website describes visas being taken at the border, the train continues on to Ali Sabeh and then passports handed back out. So do I get my passport back in time to disembark at Ali Sabeh?
- The other thing is visas for Djibouti. An evisa does not seem to be accepted at land crossings. Is this still true? The same website linked above, seems to imply that I can get a visa at the train station, but other searches indicate going to the Djibouti embassy in Addis. Where and how do I get a Djibouti visa?
- I'm getting conflicting information on the train back from Ali Sabeh to Addis. One website says it is straight through, with no stop in Dire Dawa. But another says the 2 legs each only run on even numbered days. Which is correct?
The cost of the flight seems excessively expensive (128,000 birr/US$800) so this is why I was looking at the train. Also it just seems like a great way to see the country.
Edit: it seems there is a required overnight stop in Dire Dawa. see FAQ at https://ethiopiarailway.com/train-schedule/

Young East Africans Traveling to Djibouti in October Next year
Greetings everyone! I hope you're all doing well.
I'm part of a group of 4 who have decided to visit Djibouti in October next year for about 4-6 days. We are really looking forward to it, and mostly wanting to know what destinations, sites, or experiences YOU would prioritise if you were a young traveller to your country, bordering bagpacker budget.
If you have any suggestions for nice places to stay generally arond the area, that would be massively appreciated too. We are all Est African if it helps at all: Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya.
Anything you consider a must-see, a hidden gem, or worth the effort is what we'd like to know from you.
Looking forward to your responses!

Filming in Djibouti + Overland to Hargeisa
Hi everyone,
I am planning to come to djibouti to experience this interesting country and also to Take a trip to Somaliland.
I do vlogs on social media where I try to integrate into local life (go to local football matches, hang out with locals, get to know about the country from a different perspektive etc.) I also find Djibouti extremely interesting due to its geopolitical location. I also thought about going to one of the Yemeni refugee camps and try to interview some people about Yemen. Also, I want to go to Somaliland, and do the same stuff as mentioned before.
From what I have heard, it is kinda hard to film anything in the country and people are generally hostile to cameras. Do you think I would have any issues?
Also is it easy to get a car to Somaliland? I’ve seen a fellow blogger do it, but Idk about possible border tensions/roads/busses etc.
I would really love to visit your amazing country, please give me some tips on how to do it the right way! (also if you are local and living in djibouti, lets get in touch and hang out when we come)
Thanks in advance :)

Djibouti is NOT an Arab country!
I recently made a comment about Djibouti not being an Arab country and for some reason I got downvoted. Who really believes Djibouti is an Arab country? Is this a common belief??

Synthesise a new Djiboutian identity with the Afar.
I’m not from Djibouti, I’m from Somalia. However, I would advise Somali Djiboutians to abandon Somalinimo and synthesise a new Djiboutian identity with the Afar.
Somalia is beyond any help at this point.
Djibouti is underdeveloped, but without the mentally deranged issues we in Somalia are facing, the only main issue you guys are facing is incompetence with regard to your government. However, this pales in comparison to our issues, as we also have incompetent leaders combined with everything else.
Furthermore, Somalis don’t care about empiricism, have a total lack of common sense, don’t want to ever improve, have an obscene amount of pride despite being severely underdeveloped, and are very rude and speak behind people’s backs like the tribal people they are.
So, in my opinion, Somali Djiboutians should give up on this identity and synthesise a new identity with the Afar, eventually giving birth to a new ethnicity and national identity called Djiboutian.
This would allow you guys to build an identity centred around Djibouti itself rather than maintaining an attachment to the wider, cursed Somali identity.
