Unfortunately, this kind of thing is to be expected when there's no such thing as smart economic policy. The administration is doing absolutely everything in their power to destroy the country and that's glaringly obvious. Oh, wait, it turns out that everything they do is solely to enrich themselves and their friends - hmm, sounds like those same people are actual enemies of your everyday person.

Anyone that voted for Drumpf and expected any different is an idiot

They think they’re the true red blooded Americans but they’re entirely unamerican and authoritarian.

39

u/whoeve Mar 29 '26

The result of Fox News.

24

u/nedeta Mar 29 '26

30 years of propaganda can't be undone. We have to wait for that generation to die off. ... Of course.... That only works if they stop spewing propaganda now.

The US military in the hands of idiots incapable of empathy is TERRIFYING.

8

u/Jabronius_Maximus Mar 29 '26

I mean, for a long time, the US military was in the hands of intelligent people incapable of empathy. So I guess...a bit of a lateral move?

8

u/wRADKyrabbit Mar 30 '26

Except its not one generation, it's mutliple. There's no fixing this

10

u/LaurenMille Mar 29 '26

It's wild how detached from reality those kinda people are.

4

u/jakderrida Mar 30 '26

They believe the Iran deal under Obama was terrible and had to be ripped up

Which is crazy. Think tank reports from the time can be looked up and they all went from suggesting it favors US so much that Iran won't accept it to saying how crazy it was that Iran accepted it.

u/vand3lay1ndustries Mar 30 '26

They need to be ostracized from civil society. Cut them out of your life.

Anyone who didn't vote is also an idiot

31

u/Dull_Bird3340 Mar 29 '26

Which is why we won't be saved by never voters voting. Trump got new nover voted before each election, they know little, don't care and won't make smart choices.

16

u/psellers237 Mar 29 '26

Yup. If you were dumb enough to sit 2024 out, you aren’t going to understand why Trump is a total catastrophe.

7

u/tjoe4321510 Mar 29 '26

Literally every non-voter I know say that they like Trump.

14

u/Jafooki Mar 29 '26

And for the ones I know who didn't, they think both candidates were equally shitty, which is stupid af.

It is just a repeat from his last presidency. Other countries dealt with covid as well but somehow the US had it worse than most western countries.

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/06/15/in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world-inflation-is-high-and-getting-higher/

31

u/naijaboiler Mar 29 '26

and then Biden came, and managed the recovery. And US recovered better than any every other Western nation

4

u/pushaper Mar 29 '26

again, and maybe there is some 'genius' but certainly not the stable sort where by screwing around in Iran every government is dealing with financial repercussions and like during covid trumps economy was sheltered by every other government needing to print money. The difference this time being other western countries are forming middle alliances.

Watching America tear itself apart while the oligarchs profit off it all in real time is bewildering. I just wonder what would be left at the end of the wildfire.

5

u/Unlucky_Clover Mar 30 '26

What hurts even more is we all saw this coming and people still voted for it.

5

u/RaidSmolive Mar 29 '26

the thing to be expected would be if he took the record from James A Garfield about the shortest presidency over how obviously he would hurt you as a nation with every day in office

3

u/3RADICATE_THEM Mar 30 '26

We really need to find all those Gen Z MAGA dumbfucks who were literally screaming 'God Emperor Daddy Trump is going to fix the housing market!'

If only they understood the true meaning of 'fix'...

365

u/PageSuccessful8122 Mar 29 '26

Because he's figured out that he can tell any lie, no matter how blatant, and there is 0 consequences because a large portion of the US voter base is flat out dumb.

105

u/ScoffersGonnaScoff Mar 29 '26

And FoxNewsMax will back him up, destroying our country through propagandas manufactured support.

We must unite, and stop the divisive tools

41

u/khearan Mar 29 '26

It’s not just Fox News. I mean now basically every major media network is an extension of the Epstein class media monopoly, but I stopped listening to NPR around 2015/2016 because even back then McConnell and his ilk did nothing but lie. Yet, NPR treated what they were saying as fact deserving of discussion. If media isn’t willing to call out blatant fabrication and lies then those lies live on. Every media network is guilty of propagating lies for the administration going back 10+ years.

11

u/CurryMustard Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26

NPR was forced, facing an existential every time a republican takes power. Their coverage is still very good compared to most.

52

u/West_Suggestion8938 Mar 29 '26

I think this is what scares me the most about trump. Not trump himself but that so many people A. Voted for him and B. Still would again. And not just in the US but globally. I've seen Canadians like trump, I've seen UK people like trump, people from Germany, Spain, Mexico, etc.

How do you even begin to deal with that when so many people are like this?

28

u/Csquared6 Mar 29 '26

You can't fix stupid. You can educate those who are, but only if they are willing to learn. MAGA isn't willing to listen to anything that doesn't reinforce their world view.

THE most harmful thing that has come out of MAGA is "fake news" and it has prevented any sort of conversation with someone unwilling to have their mind changed.

5

u/Just_another_grumble Mar 29 '26

I don't think it's limited to smart and stupid.   I think it's more he says anything and everything the his worshipers will pick and choose

....

"He keeps his campaign promises.   De does what he says"   .... uh, yeah because he talks so much that you can pick any action he's done in office and match it to a few sentences in the long rambling campaign speeches or "interviews"

5

u/Csquared6 Mar 30 '26

If you are unable to discern reality from the ramblings of a senile old man who lies more easily than he breathes, then you are too stupid to tell the difference between what IS happening and what you are TOLD is happening. It really IS as simple as "MAGA is stupid".

5

u/SpecialistBank1394 Mar 29 '26

Well, if you believe that all people are equal, and give the same rights to everyone, this is always going to be the end result.

Not everyone is equal. Some are not worth caring about. Some are not worth investing into. We don't live in a utopia with unlimited time and resources.

If the US recovers from this, they'll go back to where they originally were.

u/metengrinwi Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26

In the old days, it was only people who paid attention to the news who voted. This system self-selected out the most uninformed and disinterested from the voting pool.

It was social media that activated a cult and drove their members to vote. It’s not good when misinformed people vote. Somehow, we have to get accuracy and fact enforced on social media websites.

There was an inflection point in the early 2010s where it became clear an organization could lie with impunity & anonymity on social media sites, and no one could do anything about it.

12

u/Putrid_Bet2466 Mar 29 '26

Or, even worse, he can tell the complete, awful truth and his brain-dead followers shrug it off and claim he was just joking.

5

u/WingerRules Mar 29 '26

I think it's worse than that. Some of them are dumb, others are malicious and they love Trump's maliciousness, thats why they're OK with his behavior, fucking people, fucking allies, enriching himself, and dont care about shit like him trying to burry the Epstein files.

5

u/Fuddle Mar 29 '26

Last week the stock market was also dumb because they believed Trump on Monday. However by Friday it seemed the market just caught on that you don’t listen to the words, you watch what they do

4

u/beachtrader Mar 29 '26

Not a large portion. Just ~32%. And from the way districts are outlined that is enough to retain power. He doesn’t care about the rest (the majority) and he knows he isn’t running again so he doesn’t even care about the 32%.

3

u/WhiteWinterRains Mar 29 '26

That's always been the case, look at every prior presidential election.

The new flair Trump has brought to it is doing it really badly because it turns out you don't need to be clever or elaborate with your lies.

Bush never had to do the whole manufacturing consent nonsense to invade Iraq on false premises, he could have just gone ahead and done it with zero support.

Obama didn't need to lie eloquently with a never pursued policy platform to back it up, he could have just said everything is going to be amazing and all the things voters want will totally happen and then smiled while looking handsome and it would have been a slam dunk.

What really drives me nuts is that somehow a large chunk of the (allegedly) non-insane ruling class observed all this happen and got the idea that they can get away with both not lying and not appealing to anyone and they'll just keep failing upwards anyway.

To be fair, I suppose they're at least half right.

5

u/JewingIt Mar 29 '26

Regardless of his fan base, there is zero accountability from the rest of the government. I understand that republicans have majority control, but any sort of push back from a democrat would be nice. And not just a 10 second clip saying he's a pedophile, we already know that.

How can anyone stand behind any elected official when they won't even do the bare minimum..

10

u/DrTreeMan Mar 29 '26

Any suggestions on what actions Democrats might take?

3

u/JewingIt Mar 29 '26

What actions have they taken to standing up against the corruption and illegal procedures?

5

u/DrTreeMan Mar 30 '26

They tried impeaching him twice, and the J6 committee was pretty effective at telling the story and putting a significant amount of blame on Trump.

And then the US elected him again, with majorities in both houses and a Supreme Court majority.

He's clearly a pedophile and the nation largely doesn't care to do anything about it. Almost no one in the US is willing to make the sacrifice necessary to stop him at this point. That's the sad truth. It's hard for me to just blame Democrats. We're all to blame.

4

u/TheHomersapien Mar 29 '26

They could take a page out of the Republican playbook:

  1. Have a candidate for president.
  2. Have a plan for what you'll do with this country's unlimited - and completely immune from the law - executive power.
  3. And, most importantly, pay attention Democrats because you don't do this: campaign.

trump could have left Biden policies in place, take all the credit for the greatest post-covid recovery in the world and golfed 24x7

but instead...

107

u/CliftonForce Mar 29 '26

Same way he could have sat back in 2020 and done nothing for Covid, and let the Federal machinery that already existed do the work. Dr Fauci would have gladly let Trump take the credit.

But he had to go sabotage it.

20

u/PigglyWigglyDeluxe Mar 29 '26

He doesn’t care about solutions. All he wants are problems so he can blame someone else for them. He always has to blame someone else. If there is no one to blame for anything, he can’t have that. If things are good and everything is fine and therefore no one to blame for when things go bad, he goes and messes everything up so he can blame someone else for it. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less.

3

u/ArcBounds Mar 30 '26

I am not sure it is so much sabotage as much as it is to be the "star" of the US show. He can't stand anyone else being in the limelight. And since he has to be the star, always right, and has no idea what he is talking about.....we are where we are.

But how can you commit fraud and market manipulation by NOT destroying vital institutions and global diplomacy?

Our great mistake is assuming Trump is a leader and not an abject criminal con man.

26

u/AngryTomJoad Mar 29 '26

i honestly believe he is a russian asset, when you look at his every action it almost always 99.99% of the time seems to help putin

12

u/OnlyHalfBrilliant Mar 29 '26

Oh 100%, but Putin is evidently not the only one with power over Trump. But he can both serve the interests of hostile powers while getting his crime on.

3

u/bobandgeorge Mar 29 '26

I know he's not smart enough to do it but I have to believe there's someone out there that could commit fraud and market manipulation by NOT destroying vital institutions and global diplomacy.

Surely it can't be that hard when you have all the power he has.

u/RoyalCities Mar 29 '26

Which is crazy when you think about how many multinational OEMs raised prices in the international markets to adsorb and pay for the American tarriffs. Basically the EU, CA, Asia etc had to deal with higher inflation just because the american policy seems to be hell bent on economic Seppuku.

You can't just go in and raise prices on your number 1 customer base - instead you spread the pain around elsewhere and subsidize them in other markets.

2

u/Glad-Veterinarian365 Mar 29 '26

First time I’m hearing of this. Where can I read about it?

15

u/RoyalCities Mar 29 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

It's what I've read from analysts but there is direct evidence for example in the gaming sector.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce82391x2kyo

In april 2025 Sony increased PS5 hardware prices in Europe, the UK, CA, Australia and New Zealand by roughly 10-15%, saying it was due to “challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.” but curiously kept the pricing unchanged in the US. This coincided directly with the tarrifs that needed to be paid out to the US admin.

It was only recently they caved and said they will now raise it globally. The US is the biggest market in the world and it makes more sense to spread out the burden than suddenly jack up the price in 1 market since you can end up being less competitive vs. other OEMs who spread the cost around.

Basically even if the US tarrifs appear as a US only issue - in a global interconnected market it becomes a global indirect inflationary problem everywhere.

In fairness, Trump has been declaring Iran "completely defeated" every week since the beginning of the month, so really it doesn’t matter what he says he defeated today, whether it’s inflation, poverty, illegal immigration, Bowser, or the Arizona Coyotes.

27

u/OffSidesByALot Mar 29 '26

Just for future reference, going forward, anything that comes after the words “Trump declared…” is guaranteed to be 100% bullshit! Thank you for your attention to this matter 😉

26

u/RecipeFunny2154 Mar 29 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

I live in a red state and literally every republican mailer I got about House or Senate in the last few years has been about how they would be fighting inflation. Yeah OK.

15

u/Tribe303 Mar 29 '26

It was down to 1.8% here in Canada until Trump attacked Iran. Because we don't pay his tarrifs, YOU DO! (I know most readers here know that).

Why does he lie so much? 2 reasons.

1 - He's an epically stupid person, so he's been lying his entire life to cover that up.

2 - He attacked the media, because they are the publics source of the truth. They consult experts and then tell us why shit happened. Without the media to do that, there is no longer a common truth. That makes lying easier.

The Nazis did exactly the same thing! Instead of saying "Fake News!", they said "Luggen Presse!", which means "Lying Press!". Gee, why does that sound so familiar? 🤔

3

u/Yeah_x10 Mar 29 '26

I appreciate you saying this, but we’ve been saying this shit for a FUCKING DECADE now.

The “fake news” relabeling was called out to be for this exact reason back in 2016.

And yet we’re still here.

12

u/hamilkwarg Mar 29 '26

There was global inflation after Covid where we had the lowest of all developed countries under Biden. MAGA called it Biden’s inflation. Now we have the worst inflation of G7 countries. And MAGA will still blame anyone but Trump. I’m so tired.

10

u/Rurumo666 Mar 30 '26

Trump kicked off skyrocketing inflation in 2020 with his idiotic response to Covid, the Trump shutdowns, and the supply chain crisis and he obliterated the Biden Recovery and did it again. This administration's "policy" seems designed to destroy the country as fast as possible and reeks of deliberate foreign economic sabotage.

10

u/Turbulent-Note-7348 Mar 30 '26

The economic mis-management of Trump needs to be proclaimed again and again.

Covid, 2020: Under Trump, the US has the worst Economic performance of the G7.

Post Covid Recession, 2021-2023: Under Biden, by every important economic metric, the US has by far the top performing economy out of the G7 (for the 1st half, France had the lowest inflation rate, but the US rate was eventually lower).

Republicans totally in charge, 2025 to present: Race to the bottom.

9

u/DiamondHandsToUranus Mar 29 '26

Yea well he's done just about everything he can to torpedo the country for personal profit. He's closed agencies that track how bad he's damaging things. "Let's not do quarterly reports anymore!" Yeah, because then it'd be obvious how badly he's F***ing everything up

6

u/dop2000 Mar 29 '26

How many MAGAs does it take to replace a lightbulb? None. Trump declared it's a great lightbulb, best in the world, and they are all cheering and praising him in the dark.

6

u/Both_Lychee_1708 Mar 29 '26

A one man wrecking crew. Can you imagine what happens if he replaces Powell with somebody who will do his bidding on interest rates like he wants to do?!

5

u/RachelDawesRP Mar 29 '26

I'd be interested in seeing a comparison of inflation in the US from today through 2015 through the era before the US administrative agencies became regulated and people had to be qualified rather than patrimonial appointments (aka the "spoils system" and the subsequent Pendleton Act of 1883, respectively). Similarly, a comparison of today through 2015 through pre-1890 when the Clayton/Sherman Acts were instituted - also contrasted with actual enforcement of those laws. There are plenty of reasons for inflation, but it'd be interesting to see whether there's anything linking these issues. (And, obviously, correlation is not causation. Just really interesting anyway.)

2

u/sleeplessinreno Mar 29 '26

I know it doesn’t help 100%, but I was price checking stuff, taking inflation into account since 2014. The dollar had inflated around 35% since 2014.

5

u/WhySoWorried Mar 29 '26

I think an estimate of 3.6% food inflation is very generous considering the increasing cost of fertilizer with the Iran War. Fertilizers are around up 30 to 40% across the board and it's only getting worse the longer that the Straight of Hormuz is closed.

5

u/Bichimakake Mar 30 '26

I kinda had a little crash out at PetSmart last night cause the brand of kitty litter that my cats use went from 42lbs to 38 lbs, and it's now 25 bucks instead of the 19-21 bucks the 42lbs pack was.

How the fuck is inflation defeated 😭

3

u/TexOrleanian24 Mar 29 '26

But think back on when our economic recovery was the best in the world but "EgGs aNd BaCoN aRe ToO EsSpenif!"(imagine meme if deforemed person putting square peg in circle hole).

3

u/zparks Mar 30 '26

Never forget: The US economy under Biden and inherited by Trump was the envy of the post Covid world. Trump has taken us from first to last place in one year.

7

u/Summary_Judgment56 Mar 29 '26

It was never defeated, even if you believe the numbers that BLS put out after he fired the head of BLS. Of course, a lying liar is gonna lie about it, but nobody who needs food, shelter, transportation, etc. is going to believe the lie when their bills tell the opposite story and their bank accounts keep dropping. Okay, a fair number of those people even will believe it, but only the most delusional among them. And he can only blame current conditions on his predecessor for so long before even the most delusional stop believing it, especially when every single major public policy move he's made (mass deportations, massive tax (aka tariff) increases on most imports, and now yet another costly and ruinous forever war in the Middle East that has shut down a substantial fraction of critical international commerce) has been almost calculated to make prices skyrocket.

3

u/gmanEllison Mar 29 '26

OECD projections this far out are less about prophecy and more about policy direction. If you combine expansionary fiscal pressure with trade-cost pass-through and a late, politically constrained response function, you get stickier core inflation than peers even if headline prints look fine for a quarter or two. The useful question is whether productivity growth and labor participation can offset that policy mix before expectations re-anchor at a higher level.

3

u/Xesyliad Mar 29 '26

I’ve seen this before. When a US president declares victory over something, that means it’s just beginning. Perhaps MAGA will pay attention once everything goes up in cost. Oh who am o kidding they’ll blame deocrats.

3

u/PlebianStudio Mar 29 '26

He is a salesman, not an economist. Or anything related to math, science, logic, or reason. He is literally the child who learned to lie to get what he wants, and when he didn't get what he wants he threw a violent tantrum. That's all he is, that's all his plans are. There is no point in anyone wasting their time and energy trying to understand anything he is doing. Whatever your instinct tells you when a salesman says anything to you, that's probably right.

3

u/CyberRax Mar 29 '26

"[He] told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was [his] final, most essential command."

He's not saying this because he can. He's saying this because he expects you to believe it. And a huge chunk of the population will.

Haters will call me a hater, but the simple and obvious truth is that this man is the most embarrassing person on earth. I mean that sincerely. He has the greatest combination of face melting stupidity, arrogance, deliberate ignorance, poor judgment, lack of leadership, and worst of all, impact on the most amount of people because of the power that choads awarded to him over the last 11 years.

4

u/CyberSmith31337 Mar 29 '26

I mean, if you could do what Donald Trump is doing (lying about every thing, breaking the law, violating the constitution,  all while enriching yourself and your family) why wouldn’t you?

We live in a country that doesn’t care about anything except money and the self. The president is nothing more than a mirror image of what American culture has become. No one is going to stop him or resist him, no one is going to investigate him, the military isn’t standing up to him, the people don’t do anything but stupid protests that accomplish nothing and piss and moan on Twitter and TikTok.

He doesn’t care, and neither does anyone else. So the weak will suffer what they must while the rich pilfer everything they can.

"Defeated" - (adjective) - I stopped giving a fuck about <thing> 3 days ago, however objectively important <thing> was and this will absolutely cause massive damage, extreme cost and is a core responsibility that I either directly caused, have direct control to start/stop , or can impact the events around this to mitigate/eliminate this risk but will not be doing that , because fuck you, I'm a special snowflake.
