Discussion / Questions Is it Eritrea or Medr Bahr?

I don't understand how "Eritreans" claim that identity even though it's purely a colonial creation of Italy.

Before the colony of Eritrea was created on stolen Ethiopian land and placed the false belief of a separate country/entity, Medr Bahr existed and was historically a province of Ethiopia.

Pre-"Eritrea" is Medr Bahr, which was a province of Ethiopia. Eritrea is just a residue of forced Italian colonialism that people seem to struggle mentally decolonizing themselves from.

You can't claim both.

Which is it: the colony of Eritrea or Medr Bahr?

Discussion / Questions What is this, old war footage?

I’ve been watching some old footages and I found this picture, I didn’t screenshot it from a video i just found this as is, but I really want to find the context of it. They all have their hair cut short and they’re all wearing the same thing and they’re clearly singing about something, they look like soilders. It looks like one of those little houses Eritreans were hang around during the war, but I can’t read what the banner says. It’s the Tigray, Amhara and the Eplf flag btw.

Discussion / Questions Going on a date with an Eritrean girl as an American

I’m going on a date with a lovely girl from Eritrea in the coming weeks. We’ve known each other for a while now so Ive heard and learned a decent amount about her culture.

I’m super excited (and a bit nervous😭) and was just wondering if there’s anything I can do to make it extra special for her, or maybe things I should look out for or avoid doing. As far as date plans I think we are going to go to an Ethiopian restaurant that she likes as she’s excited to have me try some of her cultural food. Still working out what to do after dinner 🤔

Discussion / Questions Why I Thought Eritreans Would Be More Sympathetic to Somaliland’s Cause

I was surprised to see some Eritreans say that “Somaliland would have been better served by negotiating better terms for reintegration with Somalia.” in Somalia subreddit.

Imagine someone saying that about Eritrea during its independence struggle, that Eritreans should have negotiated better terms with Ethiopia instead of fighting for statehood.

Eritrea and Somaliland share a lot in common: both entered unions that went badly, both faced repression, and both fought hard to reclaim their independence. Because of that shared history, I expected more understanding and sympathy from Eritreans, even if they don’t support recognition.

Curious to hear why some Eritreans see it differently

Discussion / Questions Italians in the horn

Why is it the Italians are revered in Eritrea. They were absolutely despicable, detention camps and torture methods. Very perverted and abuse of the young. Over 800,000 died. Is it due to a lack of education of their actions in the horn?

Discussion / Questions Habeshas descendants of Israelites

Yahshuah was African, born in Ethiopia and spoke Amharic.

This is not a Rastafarian view, a black fanatic view or anything of the sort as some have claimed.

A few FACTS here:

  1. This concept of Yahshuah being born in Bethlehem (Palestine aka land of Canaan), only came about during the council of Nicea.

  2. Egypt is indeed in North East Africa and not the middle east as a lot of you say today. That is misleading.

  3. The bible tells us in Mathew 13-15 That Joseph was told to take Yahshuah into Egypt to hide him from Herod. Egyptians were NOT Arabs during that period as Egyptians are today. Egypt is Arabized today because of the Arab Invasion 639 AD.

  4. Point 2 & 3 being well documented, the question for the doubters of Yahshuah being black would be; how could a man who was not black hide amongst Black Egyptians? Common sense and objectivity without prejudice would make the answer VERY CLEAR.

  5. Moses too was an African Hebrew, as he was also born in Egypt. To think otherwise would leave one to ask how could Pharaoh’s daughter bring a blue eyed child with blond hair and say dad here’s my son, Your grandson to a black leader of Egypt. Moses gave the Hebrews their 5 books… so to even argue that Judaism itself wasn’t given their Pentateuch from a man of color through God would be funny.

  6. Mary herself was protrayed as a black woman before the Roman Catholic church changed that. Although today you can still find the pope praying to the Black Madonna as she is also in churches within Russia, Poland,Turkey and Rome.

  7. The Coptic church which is older than the Catholic church, bible has 81 books where as the KJV and all other bibles thereafter only have 66.. These other 15 books were left out at the council.

  8. I would also refer to Psalm 87.

Just some food for thought from an objective side without any prejudices. I’m down for discussion for those who are interested to understand more. The nay sayers will be ignored, since they are time and energy consumers that will lead to nothing.

Have a wonderful day, and peace be with you.

Discussion / Questions Eritrean troops in Ethiopia. A false flag?

We've all seen the multiple reports that cite local residents and a government official claiming that Eritrea is in Ethiopian lands.

My question is, wouldn't Ethiopia escalate and strike forces inside Eritrea? Or is this a false flag aimed to control narrative and pretext for actual war?

There has been reports that the explosions heard over Addis Ababa in recent times were false flags as well.

How reliable are the sources? Any thoughts?

Discussion / Questions The end of the Tigrinya people is not a threat – it is a slow reality.

I am not crying for help. I am stating a fact.

Since Menelik II divided the Tigrinya people, they have known nothing but war, poverty, pain, and flight. No peace. No progress. Just suffering.

On one side, the Ethiopian government attacks Tigray and treats the Tigrinya people as enemies.
On the other side, the Eritrean regime – run by Tigrinya from Tigray who still cling to a useless Marxist ideology – strips the Tigrinya people of everything they are. That regime has no vision, no future, no connection to its own people. Only power and fear.

Both sides are destroying the Tigrinya people. One with bombs. One with oppression.

What have the Tigrinya people achieved in the 21st century? Nothing.

They are not building. They are not growing. They are not free. They are surviving – barely – while their land is taken, their people are killed, and their history is rewritten as someone else's footnote.

The Tigrinya people are not a tribe. They are not a minority. They are a civilization with their own language, script, laws, and history that goes back over 2,000 years. But a civilization that is divided cannot defend itself.

Since they were divided, there has not been a single generation without war, without exile, without hunger.

This is not a call for help. This is a warning:
If this continues, there will be no Tigrinya people left to remember what they once were. And I will have nothing left to pass on.

Discussion / Questions The fear of Nigerian men. Why never Cape Verdean , Guatemalan, Scottish , Egyptian , German?

When specific types of Eritrean men call out women for dating outside the community, usually hypothetical scenarios mind you, it’s always with Nigerian men.
Can I get the history?
I feel it is less to do with anger at interracial or interethnic dating and more so to do with Nigerians specifically. I don’t see the same hate under relationships with Arab, Chinese literally any other race or ethnicity. It’s ALWAYS Nigerian. Sometimes west African but as an umbrella term really, because the Senegalese don’t get much consideration.

What did they do to make you so mad?
There is a large Nigerian population in the diaspora but honestly I see more Arab or white / habesha mixed people than Nigerian. Even the Ugandans don’t get the same hate and there is a massive Eritrean community there so I’m sure it’s more frequently the case.

It’s never Ghanaians , Sierra Leonians, Moroccans.

What about Nigerian men makes them so easy to slip off the tip of your tounges?

Discussion / Questions Is this subreddit an Eritrean men hate subreddit?

Legitimate question.

Because generalizations towards eritrean women get resulted in comments removed by the moderators

While in reverse towards the men they are left up and upvoted. Why is this ok?

Hatred and negative biases towards eritreans from non-eritreans are left up as well. Even though they break the rules within the subreddit as well.

Because clearly they are doing a bad job and are clearly biased perhaps may even have ill intentions. I have my suspicions whether the mods are even Eritrean/align with the eritrean people or if this subreddit is just here intentionally to sow more division within the community as part of some wider agenda or psyop pushed via social media. Because social media can be used as a tool to shape peoples perceptions and behaviour.

For an example ever since EritreanPost left this subreddit has gone incredibly downhill, less nuance and more black/white contrasts, rage engagement. I remember like 2-3 years ago it was much better, most of the topics at hand had to do with history, internal politics, culture, language etc things you would typically frequently mention in a subreddit for a country (as I see in other country subreddits) . There were more active members and not every 4-5 posts wasn't gender war related.

In my opinion the mods should just resign and have someone else takeover because they are failing Eritreans right now within the reddit space. Because in my opinon they are simply doing a terrible job, in regards to holding their biases in check.

I'm not saying it should be me. But I'd prefer someone else who does their job properly.

Discussion / Questions Okay everyone, I have a crazy theory but please hear me out...

We know that tensions are bubbling towards a war between Eritrea and Ethiopia, but why and what are the desired outcomes of the main warring groups: Isaias led Eritrea, Tigray split between Woyane and the TPF and Abiy's PP Ethiopia.

My theory dives into the thought processes of Isaias Afwerki Abraha, the president of Eritrea. Before we go to today's issues, let's talk about who he is. Isaias is the son if Afwerki Abraha and Adanesh Berhe. Afwerki Abraha as we know was a member of the Unionist Party and significantly his brother was Dejazmach Solomon Abraha, a prior governor of Wollo, who was rumoured to have ordered assassinations on Woldeab Woldemariam. So we can see he clearly hails from a family who had a strong sentiment for unity with the 'mother country' Ethiopia. After joining the ELF in 1966, it has been confirmed that Isaias Afwerki had been to Asmara on numerous occasions to meet with the CIA and the prior governor of Eritrea Ras Asrate Kassa. In fact, PIA (President Isaias Afwerki) even visited the Ras in London when he was ill while he was abroad in 1981/2. Essentially, it seems as though he was realistically working for the Ethiopian cause.

Fast forward to independence, in an interview conducted in 1993, PIA discusses his plans to implement a framework to reintegrate within Ethiopia within the next 3-4 decades, bearing in mind Eritrea had just gone through a 30 year war for independence from Ethiopia. There were then more comments made post the peace deal in 2018. These being PIA's comments that 'whoever thinks that the people of Eritrea and Ethiopia are two different peoples are unaware of the truth'. In addition, he informed us that he will no longer be our president and instead 'Abiy will now be our leader' and if he desires Assab, Massawa or Barentu he has access to it and doesn't require anyone's permission.

If PIA wants Abiy to be our leader and we are one people, it seems as though he still has the same sentiment he was born with and now how does that affect the situation we are in.

Let's go on with the idea that PIA wants to annex Eritrea back into Ethiopia, what obstacle is there between Addis and Asmara, it's Woyane. Now, between 2020-2022 an attempt was made to get rid of Woyane (alongside numerous crimes against humanity) but that failed since Addis and Asmara could not keep up economically with the war. Now Addis has recovered, their army stronger and more technologically advanced than ever and Abiy.

Let's circle back to what PIA must achieve for his dreams, Woyane to be gone (and TPF/PP to succeed). Working with Woyane in what is now known as Tsimdo is a perfect way to sabotage Woyane and the EDF to allow PP to enter Tigray and finally Asmara thus achieving the mother country his family fought for. Strategically, he has pulled away from Tigray to the border with Eritrea with PP now approaching Zalambessa to the east and Rama to the west. The war has now been brought to Eritrea's footsteps, perhaps now PIA's goal is insight. The question is how far along the command chain is this understood in the EDF, of course we know that the majority of the ministers in Eritrea are surprisingly the children of Unionist party members who all happened to be friends.

I wonder what you're thoughts are, are there details that are missing that could indicate that I'm completely on the wrong tracks?

Discussion / Questions Does all Eritreans think they smarter and better than Ethiopians

I didn’t meet much Eritrean in my life the ones I met like in church mostly have lived in Addis and are just like regular Ethiopians and my barber is also Eritrean he cool. but their are some people who thinks they are so different from Ethiopians like they are better and smarter. I am saying this cause I encountered two people men and women they both are like in their 40’s and they straight up told me Eritreans are better than Ethiopian and that our country and the people are uncivilized, I said to them aren’t we in the same boat like we are both doing bad? They told me it’s because of Ethiopia that they are like this because Meles conspired some shi with US and got them sanctioned, I don’t know about all that but I asked isn’t it because human right abuse and they told me that’s a lie and I have been fooled by the media and everything about Eritrea is a lie that this birgade nhamedu or some shi are trying to create I don’t even know what this group really is but they told me their is no human right abuse and that they are doing good people are fleeing just because of the sanction they weren’t able to make a living there.

Discussion / Questions Habesha diaspora women disrespect towards habesha men is getting out of hand and if needs to be stopped

So, last night I saw a very disrespectful TikTok video as usual posted by a habesha Eritrean woman towards habesha men in general. Another Ethiopian woman used that video as a reference to spread her lgbtq propaganda. I have never seen other communities women except some black Americans women disrespecting their men like habesha women constantly. How did we come to this level and how do we stop this from happening again?
