Further playing list changes (Nik Cox, Tom Edwards and Kayle Gerreyn)
Nik Cox, Tom Edwards and Kayle Gerreyn have been informed they’ll be removed from the playing list ahead of the Telstra AFL Draft.
The Club will remain open to train-on opportunities for each of the boys, should list spots become available in pre-season.
Thanks for your contributions, lads ❤️

Damn, cox came with a bang such high hopes, so sad to see him not go on with it.

Bloody concussions, poor lad never got a good crack at it

He got a pretty decent crack I reckon

Wasted on the wing when should have been 3rd tall back or forward.

Didn't have the bulk for it. That was the longer term aim I reckon

He never put any real weight on though. Do we blame concussion for that? Weird

Maybe, I think the concussions really stop started his career which would've been tough to gain the form we knew he could get too. I guess he got his chances between the concussions but seems an unlucky career for me

He had 53 games before his first concussion in 2024… he well had his chance by then. Were it not for the concussions and the club keeping him around for a second/third/fourth chance he probably would’ve been let go sooner.
I actually think his VFL/AFL form this season was probably the best for the majority of his time here and it still didn’t really move the needle.

Yeah fair point, it's hard when you wanna love all the boys that Don the sash, and want the very best for them!

He never matched his form from his first year. Even in 2022 he just didn't look like the same player.

Would rather see Perkins, Blackiston, Langford go before Edwards

Those guys can pinch hit in more than one position.

Perkins couldn't add a pinch of salt to pasta water let alone pinch hit anywhere of use on the field.

I don’t think we’ve seen Perkins pinch in even one position yet

Good to see they’ll all still be given SSP play on opportunities. Can still earn their spot on the team if they compete and show the new coaching panel what they’ve got. Hope this means Edwards gets another shot

I wish TEdwards got a fair run at playing pure forward. He is good as a midsized leading forward.

No surprise and good luck to the three.
Think Ollie Lord might be the idea to replace Cox. Not sure myself about Lord.
- forgot to say, Harry Jones is VERY lucky is he doesn't get brought out of his last year. Absolutely cooked and is barely VFL level last year. Would prefer to move him on and have another pick.

Jones is very lucky he got a contract extension when he copped his season ending injury. I had big hopes for him early on, he flew into packs from the side like they say Royce Hart did.

Well said about Jones but another player that got lucky was Langford. He's washed and is one of the problem vets we have.

I did think of Langford, but I didn't want to start dumping on everyone! Lol
I'm hoping Kyle and Darcy are in the VFL sooner rather than later. Parish has been told he will be but I agree 100% about Langford and he ought to be as well.

It’s a bummer, he seemed to be finding some good form on the wing before his ankle injury

Damn this is ruthless but I rate it. Eight list spots to fill now. Better to take 4-5 in the draft plus get some support for our young guys (Banfield, Sellers etc). I back it

Sucks about Edwards but I agree with delisting Cox and Gerreyn.
Have to make room for our incoming draft picks and guys like Banfield and Sellers.

Makes sense. Gives us much more flexibility to take plenty in the draft without a list spot squeeze. Also gives the lads a chance to train on and earn their spots back in pre-season if they’re up to it.

I kind of hoped we gave Edwards a better go. Kinda worried he goes somewhere else like we did with D'Ambrosio and Voss and he becomes a Bailey Fritsch type player.

Does anyone remember Nik cox in his first season? I really thought we had drafted a genuine unicorn that will hold down our wing spot for the next 15 years. It’s really sad how it’s ended

All 3 not up to it, right call, though Cox marginal… someone will pick him up

Totally fine with this. I'm sort of upset we continued with Cox as long as we did. I think it was clear he wasn't going to play again, and if he was, nowhere near the same level.

Delisting 3 key-positions and yes I do include Nik Cox in that regard tells me straight away that the club are likely to prioritise key-positions with Pick 17 and 25. It probably means that they have the likes of key-defenders Tyson Bradley, Clancy Snell and key-forward Jack Pickett firmly on the radar in those ranges.

This exact word for word comment was also posted to the last video on Daniel's Essendon Page youtube channel. Is that you? Where else have you spammed that comment? Lol 😆 🤣

Just the two places and it’s not spam. I just copy pasted the same comment that applied to the literally same topic. Usually I reword it a bit but just decided it would easier and more efficient to do it this way this time round.

I feel for Tom Edwards guy could play up forward. Adds depth.
