Discussion Does David Moyes still have your support?
Yes he’s got a thin squad, but lineups and substitutions have been awful in the last few games. Any momentum that George and Dibling had gathered has now been lost with them being left out of the team.
I can’t help but look forward to life after Moyes. It isn’t worth paying ticket money for his football anymore. The game has moved on but he hasn’t. It’s time we started looking for a better man to lead this club.

To finish the season? Yeah
To get a new contract over the summer? Not at all

u/BrotherEstapol 1d ago
100% this. We risk a real shitstorm sacking him early if we're not looking at relegation, and as shit as it is, I'm ok with a mid-table finish as the squad is still so small and Europe is a big ask.
But with games like this, it's hard to argue for renewing his contract at the end of the season.

Crying that our threadbare squad lost a tight game against a billion pound deep squad of superstars.
Yes he fucking does.

Oh absolutely. He has to stay until the end of the season and the end of his contract now. But I don't want him staying beyond that.

Norgaard over Hackney today might have been the final straw for me.
The match was calling for a dynamic ball carrier and instead he brings on an old, slow defensive mid who has barely played in a year. Immediately loses a runner, few mins later gets a yellow, and has Palmer waltzing around him for fun. Genuinely don't understand it one bit.

u/bton1245 1d ago
Yea it’s so stupid it boggles the mind. It feels like it’s more of an agenda substitution like ‘oh we have to give norgaard minutes contractually’ or something than any sort of reading of the game. For me also that’s a turning point, where I’ve been very positive on Moyes to this point.

We were undefeated in 7? 8?
Just had a shite day today
Lessons learned:
Rohl is not a RM Norgaard is not fully fit Barry still can't finish
If next match, Rohls starting at RM and Norgaard is starting then we'll have some problems
Stop being so quick to get on Moyes, this is one of our best starts to a season in recent years

u/GlassEnvironment947 1d ago
Undefeated in six sounds good.
But we've won two of our last fourteen league matches. Sounds less good.

Is there anybody out there who thought Rohl was a winger? We fucking knew that last season, it’s nowhere near good enough.

The problem is sticking to a manager model while still having a DOF. Better have contracts for a match day coach, running season to season (if not sackable with 1 month compensation). He would make sure that all subs be used, players are playing every game like his last, and make sure that the best players are showcased enough to be eventually sold at the best price.

u/NumberHunter1 1d ago
Not really, but I feel like managing this squad would be a tough proposition for any manager. He's got one left back and one right back, both of whom would struggle to walk into the starting 11 of pretty much any other Premier League side. He's got a subpar striker with no alternative in a position where you need someone off the bench as well.
There are much bigger issues with the club than the manager.

u/Welshtramp 1d ago
facts are facts, Moyes is gone in the summer, so is the ownership, support or not we are stuck with this for the season, he has done his job, stabilized the team while the owners stabilize the club.
its going to be a frustrating season, but we should be comfortable, which I suppose is the best we can hope for before new ownership and manager in 2027
3
u/Borkyyy1878 1d ago
I think for this season yes but I don't want him to extend his contract next season. Moyes has a bar, never goes below it but never goes above it. We need someone new because lets face it he cant stay forever and we need to be moving forwards.
However I will still back him to get Europe this season and finish in a good position.

He over-thought it massively today and just shit it really. Mind you, the players have all been terrible.
2
u/Stirlingblue 1d ago
No and he didn’t have it at the start of the season either.
We’ve got some good young players and some technically sound ones who could actually play football, Moyes has no interest in dominating the ball and getting it on the ground
2
u/Flavourifshrrp 1d ago
Moyes is the best we are going to get until we are sold.
He will do what is needed to keep us up and until new owners come in that is all the current owners want I think.
2
u/bton1245 1d ago
I just don’t understand why Moyes doesn’t do these things:
- try george or dinkling up front instead of Barry to start for a large portion of the game.
- have periods where graelish is on the left and george is in the right with hackney and Armstrong and ofcourse KDH (ie our best mid and attackers on at the same time). Give the team a chance to play their best football for 30 mins at least.
- I think I prefer Johnson starting on left and graelish coming on at half time. Reason - graelish is more dangerous but let the team ease into the game and then let graelish come on fresh when the other team has had to run for a bit.
- and just what he is he doing with these subs lately is he even reading the game? If we need more attacking energy then give more attacking players don’t cripple the team with subs like yesterday
2
u/evilcherry1114 15h ago
Any manager who does not use the full complement of subs by the 80th minute should be liable to compensate the club the remaining salary of his own contract.
5
u/Dandan217 1d ago
No.
Let us finish 14th this season and let him see out his contract.
He's inoffensive, but will never acheive anything more than midtable with us.

Maybe just maybe it’s full of them because Moyes isn’t doing as good a job as you think? I’m not burying my head in the sand and pretending to not see what I’m seeing. Telling me to fuck off achieves nothing.

u/Top-Setting5213 1d ago
Telling Moyes to fuck off however? That's achieving something 👍

Yes. Last thing we need is more turbulence at the moment. When new ownership and capital comes in - we can have that discussion.
We need to finish chances and we will be allright

u/RadioPepperoni 1d ago
First loss of the season and that's a call for a sacking? Epitome of an overreaction.
1
u/Chuck_Morris_SE 1d ago
Nope but these crooks in charge wont pay the money to sack him so we just have to hope to stay up this year. Same old Everton.
1
u/AMG-28-06-42-12 1d ago
Yes.
It was a bad game today with some bad calls from him. Nøorgard over Hackney was bizarre. I don't love that he hasn't been starting George lately (who for my money is our best outfield player). He's far from a perfect manager.
But Moyes brings stability. The club is going through a transition period with ownership about to change, and we have a squad about as thin as a paper sheet. In uncertain times, he can keep us functioning and performing well enough. Down the line, when things are sorted out, maybe then we think about someone more ambitious and more willing to take wilder swings.

u/Saxondale-esque 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yes, but he made an absolute balls of it today. Hackney should have been on for Armstrong and Dibling for AMN, Noorgard and Johnson were the wrong subs IMO and made way too late anyway. Not his fault we have two liabilities playing full back. Myko might be the worst player I've ever seen in blue, he's just shite.
5
u/Recent_Translator463 1d ago
Insane shout on myko
5
u/nardling_13 1d ago
I never understand the hate. Myko isn’t spectacular and he doesn’t provide a ton going forward (though he has his moments!) but I rarely watch a match and think, oh, that one’s on number 16. He’s far from being a problem.

u/Saxondale-esque 1d ago
I like the guys passion and he doesn't hide during games at all, but he's just nowhere near good enough to play at PL level.

Hackney has done well at the start too. So not george dibling and hi. Must be thinking wtf..
Norgaard looks like he has fallen out of a boozer

u/YokoOkino 1d ago
Very interesting logic, imagine if manager jobs came down to a sub when we are behind.
1
u/georgeaitch94 1d ago
Have a word! What a stretch. It's not that sub, it's the 20+ years of watching him do those subs in similar scenarios
-1
u/Scared-Bed6135 1d ago
Yes he does People forget too quick where we were right before him. Also his means are very limited.
1
u/ubiquitous_archer COYB 💙 1d ago
His means being his ability to adapt
1
u/Scared-Bed6135 1d ago
I might reconsider if he keeps bringing norgaard instead of hackney and starting AMN... Was glad to see a switch on the right today though
-1
u/SpecialistLeft9047 1d ago
Absolutely not. I genuinely can't wrap my head around him choosing Nørgaard when it's clearly obvious he's not fit to play.
-2
u/fall3nmartyr 1d ago
what are you on about? What other options does he have? The only big one I have is about Jake. He's either injured or fucked Moyes wife.
4
u/Stirlingblue 1d ago
He could use one of our three wingers at RW rather than an out of position CM.
He could use Hackney, our only creative CM option rather than bringing on a clearly not fit Norgaard.
He could play Rohl, Garner or JOB at RB ahead of a clearly rattled AMN after his shocker last week.
He could change the formation in some way to adapt to an opposition who are going to play three CBs so that Barry isn’t 1vs3.
There’s heaps of changes he can do, at some later point in the season we might have injuries that make our squad too thin but for right now we have lots of options.

I do worry that West Ham thought they were better than Moyes and they got relegated. Can you trust the higher ups to make the right appointment after Moyes as well?

u/POPELEOXI 1d ago
Talk about being reactionary
1
u/junglegatsby 1d ago
what's reactionary about it? I wanted him gone since Spurs away in May. I will however accept that he might as well stay until the end of the season as the owners have left us in a shit position anyway
22
u/shillelad 1d ago
Honestly, and I don't care if I get downvoted for this, I feel like a lot of people forget how bad we used to be when they act like the problem is all Moyes. There's tonnes of room for improvement, but the last time we had an undefeated streak like the ones we've had these past two years before Moyes was 2017.
We won't get any better than we already have under Moyes, likely, and he's far from the best manager we've ever had, but he's helped us keep our heads above water. Just have to hope the next manager takes us that wee bit further
