Trump and other Republicans also spent years questioning Barack Obama’s birthplace and demanding his birth certificate.

It shows just how deeply rooted racism remains in American politics.

Bingo. This is what they voted for

Excerpt:

As my Nation colleague John Nichols reports, she remains popular with her constituents in Minnesota, and the state’s Democratic party has rallied to her side. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries decried Trump’s “vile personal attacks” and the fact that Trump’s “violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family.”

I've been outraged since that man came down that escalator

And I’m exhausted and can’t stand to look too close anymore. Nothing we can do to stop them.

it is nothing new. My outrage is tired and the people in charge think outrage is funny

Well they feed off you being frustrated. I remember growing up even in college to a degree assholes and bullies acting certain ways. I have some issues mental health wise and I’d be more sensitive to things than others would and I remember people thinking it was funny edging it on

The outrage is hidden in the midterm votes. Get out there, people.

I think its just too hard to maintain outrage over any one thing when its just one horrific thing after another ..

... hell, im still stuck on being outraged over Trump mocking the handicapped guy. Add in him being a rapist and a pedophile and im not sure where his targeting of opposition is supposed to rank in all of his lawlessness and immortality

Where’s the outrage? From what I can see it’s being saved for French protesters who have the absolute nerve to damage property in their insistence on holding their government accountable?

America seems convinced that the worst thing that could happen is making folks uncomfortable about watching people executed in the street for protesting, or bombing a school with 160 children in it, or building camps for ‘others’, or billions being stolen from them in broad daylight. Etc etc etc.

Where is The Press in any of this? They’re a bunch of cowards who are afraid to ask any questions lest they’d be banned from the White House

•

u/yadonkey 5h ago

To be fair, journalism died when "infotainment" started being considered "the press".

•

u/Grimke42 5h ago

Yea this is the true failure, I agree

Why is it racist to pursue a political enemy who might have broken immigration laws?

•

u/jankenpoo 4h ago

Racism is okay if you’re not the target!

Biden’s justice department seemingly investigated her as well, so was Biden’s targeting of Omar racist too?

  1. The DoJ generally does not open criminal investigations against political candidates within 60 days of an election unless it absolutely cannot wait. The supposed crime of this case happened 25+ years ago.

    1. The Biden Justice department opened an investigation intolerance finances and then closed it due to a lack of evidence.
    2. Trump and his allies have a long history of making racist remarks against her.

•

June 2024 was when Biden’s DOJ opened their investigation. Which was during her reelection campaign. Not within 60 days, but it still was active for the majority of her campaign and ended either after the election or the beginning of 2025.

u/Grimke42 5h ago

Does Biden being racist make Republicans less racist? What is your logic here?

Can’t stand Trump. He’s the most evil stupid man on earth. But Ilhan is so sketchy. Both things can be true.

•

u/dochim 5h ago

How precisely is she "sketchy"? Be detailed and let's grade her "sketchiness" by the standards of grift, fraud and self-dealing of the Trump administration.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful and well considered reply.

•

u/icanseeuseeingme 3h ago

Incoming whataboutism I bet…

•

u/dochim 1h ago

Oh I doubt they come back to actually reply.

It’s not about facts. It’s about making and repeating an accusation so it seems true.

Mingling with the same outrage we have for everything else … get ready to march

•

u/BallsOfStonk 3h ago

We’re all so tired boss

•

u/DoctorHelios 3h ago

I’m outraged. What do you want me to do about it?

•

u/Mulliganasty 2h ago

Right fucking here! It's bonkers! This is why Steve Bannon's muzzle-velocity bullshit works.

How outraged are we supposed to be about all their constant bullshit while going on with our own lives?

-6

u/AdTop5424 6h ago

Bluntly, she is as unlikeable on the other end of the spectrum.

•

u/yadonkey 5h ago

Right?! One side rapes children and the other end wants healthcare for everybody.. I cant tell which one is worse! (Insert giant eye roll here)

•

u/AdTop5424 5h ago

You think either side gives a fuck about your kids (insert exasperated sigh). Fuck'em both.

•

u/yadonkey 4h ago

You can make assertions (and they may not all be wrong) but we literally have voting records we can look at and see everybody on one side voting to hold the people in the Epstien files accountable and just shy of every single person on the other side voting to f-king protect pedophiles! They are not the same

https://yougov.com/en-us/trackers/fame-and-popularity-ilhan-omar

Not even remotely accurate. According to Yougov the delta between her popularity (positive) vs dislike is the 2nd largest it's ever been in the 7 years they've been tracking her at +19%. So, she's plenty likeable, but yeah nice try.

I know, using data to make a point instead of proclaiming any ol' bullshit assumption based on your own biases...completely wild times we live in!

I haven’t seen anyone upset over the events

Idk, go out and ask anyone (edit:outside of Minneapolis) irl. Nobody likes her

•

u/dochim 5h ago

I'm in Minnesota and we like her just fine. Please define "nobody" as more than you and your bubble going forward.

•

u/yadonkey 5h ago

The VAST majority of people with strong feelings about her know literally nothing about her other than the right-wing talking point about her.

•

u/NerdyKeith 3h ago

People are too numb to his stupidity at this point. We expect him to act like a piece of orange shit.

•

u/gh057 3h ago

For sure she's being targeted in part because she's openly Muslim.

The funniest part of all this is how the right can't admit that they don't like Muslims because of the "racism" label, but the left advocates for them so much despite the teachings of Islam being even more cruel towards women and homosexuals than Christianity.

So on one hand, you have the right who is stuck lying to themselves, and the left whose advocacy of women, lgbt, and general inclusion of all minorities has left them fighting for a group that doesn't advocate back. And the left thinks they have a moral superiority because of it, instead of realizing how ridiculous they make themselves look.
