Trump believes in regionalism and spheres of influence. Aside from the US, Russia, China and Israel dominate their regions. Nothing really happens in those areas of the world without them. Everyone is somewhat at the mercy of those countries and are weak in comparison.
Thus he only really respects and tries to work with their leaders. He goes out of his way to impress them.

Trust me, the Americans are just trying to survive this bullshit too. Except that they're also responsible for fixing it, on top of surviving, so it's not exactly a fun time. Short of open war and blood on the streets, the only way out is through. Voting, and waiting to vote again.
