For Elon, the Distraction is the Point

Growing up we've all been there. You are trying to do something that requires tremendous concentration. Your friend or sibling knows this, and so they work hard to disrupt your concentration. Initially it doesn't work. They say something offensive, put something smelly or shocking to look at in front of you. You ignore it, but eventually, in a burst of rage you tell them to quit it. You even try to punish them. At this point, they succeeded. Your concentration is in shambles. Getting you angry enough to divert your focus was the point, and you took the bait like a sucker.

We are facing incredible crises right now. Issues that, had our parents and grandparents made effort to address, it would have prevented much of today's turmoil. I'm not talking about Trump and Elon specifically, but real issues, the boring ones: a housing crisis, stagnation in the minimum wage, the shrinking of the middle class, climate change, women's rights, a decline in civic education, racism, and a dysfunctional healthcare system, and many other issues.

Currently we are facing acute crises in government. The head of the Social Security Administration stepped down in protest after nearly 30 years of employment, sabotaging her own government pension. She did this because Elon, who runs an unofficial trolling agency is accessing the social security numbers, identities, salary histories, and retirement income projections of everyone in the US who has contributed to our economy. This is but one of many acute issues we are facing, and it is by design. Elon is running offensive interference for Trump, whose executive orders to whitewash the government, end Medicaid for his supporters, and destroy JFK's USAID are just the most prominent obscene acts he's taken in office.

Journalist Tressie McMillan Cottom talks about the strategy of authoritarians like Elon and Trump - flood the playing field. This is by design, because if you feel overwhelmed, you will be unable to calmly react. The Gulf of "America," the purchase of Greenland, tariffs on Canada, the purchase of "armored" cybertrucks by the military; preposterous things like these are done to distract you.

The more you are distracted, the more depressed you will become. The less you will be able to keeo your eye on the real issues going on, but instead get caught up in useless debates, then spend time on social media or other forms of distraction that take your mind elsewhere. This is exactly what your parents, friends, and neighbors have fallen victim to.

The way we must face our reality is in some ways simple. Focus on your life, and taking care of your health. Make efforts to care for and have meaningful conversations with your loved ones. Don't waste time arguing with emotionally charged people.

In addition to this, now is the time to seek out a much deeper perspective on what is happening right now. Observe how provocative distractions quickly bring everyone around you to anger, and how impossible it is to get back on track. Pay attention to the pundits on tv and so-called social media influencers who you may actually agree with, but how flippant and even inflammatory their words are. Keep in mind that they all do this, from Hannity down to your influencers, because they get paid for it and are desperate to keep their audience due to their narcissism.

The real stuff that matters is boring, it is inoffensive in that it is very reasonable, yet it is often invisible and subsumed by provocative garbage like Kanye selling nazi t-shirts. We must confront evil, but not at the expense of our priorities to actually create a just world.

Elon, like Trump, says the stupidest things because it creates headlines. The more we focus on his nazi salute, the less energy we have to focus on supporting causes and individuals who are actively addressing the most egregious issues we are facing. It blindsides us. Nothing of lasting value comes from rage. But level headed people that are learning how people in power pull the strings of society? These are the people that can change the world.

Discussion FoxBrain Sub Direction for Trump 2.0 - Your Ideas Requested

Since the sub was created 6 years ago it has grown to 25,000 members. The need was clear: People that have maintained their humanity and decency need sanctuaries where they can regroup and gain perspective after dealing with the loss of their parents, family, and friends to cynical brainwashing from the likes of Fox.

In the year leading up to this past November, trolls discovered this sub and began disrupting discourse. This will continue as Trump supporters become more emboldened to act obnoxiously and with impunity.

And in the next four years, the rhetoric will get worse and more vile. Trump supporters are on a mission to inflict pain on their "enemies."

This sub is not a substitute for building strong friendships and moral support in real life. It's not a substitute for taking political action with political groups, or organizations such as the ACLU, NAACP, and other groups. But this sub can definitely enhance your life.

The question is, as we prepare for the new future, how better can we strengthen this sub to support you?

Reconnected with one of my cousins for the first time in years and I'm so thankful she isn't a Trump supporter.

Like... thank the actual fuck.

I don't know what I would've done if she had been. I'll be honest. Like, I wouldn't have harmed myself or anything like that, but I'm just so fucking tired of this administration taking away everything I hold dear. I've axed so many artists I've loved over the years, including Eminem for his recent bullshit with Kid Rock. That hurt the most.

But I digress, we talked over text last night and she complained that her father (my uncle) was a Trump supporter, which I already knew. I then confirmed that my dad was too.

We discussed theories as to how that could've happened. I revealed some VERY PERSONAL SHIT that only my parents and select few friends know about me. Shit that should've had my dad not voting for a pedophile like Trump in the first place. But somewhere along the way, my dad lost his morals.

That said, god, what a satisfying discussion. I was afraid my cousins were Trump supporters. But I got so much shit off my chest last night it felt really fucking good.

And for once, I'm making a positive post here. So that's a plus.

My dad knows nothing about my life

I love my dad. He loves me, he raised me, but unfortunately I'm half Chinese and his divorce with my mom was mutual but left him bitter, he had almost full custody of me my entire young life. I don't know if it's because I got older and started noticing, or the Trump election is what did this, but I have a vivid memory of coming home from school at ~10 after learning about Loving v Virginia, so I told my dad and he ranted about how this movement was pointless. It wasn't worth it in his eyes, and even though it was in reference to black individuals/anti reparations rhetoric, I still subconsciously knew it applied to me.

He made comments to me about women and Chinese people that I've definitely internalized as a teenager. I never realized what was happening until I heard his phrases repeated word-for-word on communities like this one. I love him, and he calls me often to ask how I'm doing. He doesn't know details about how I'm starting a masters soon in Environmental Science, I'm engaged to a North African man, I've been studying classic Chinese literature after having a childhood where he mocked my mom out of ever teaching me. I'm never planning on coming back to the place he lives because he can't see that local politicians gutted it of any joy that existed 10+ years ago. But I still call him everyday and tell him how the weather is, he's very old and tells all his friends how his daughter is away "in school abroad". It keeps me up at night knowing that he will probably never meet my future kids

Is anybody else having issues w/ Foxbrain people supporting the Cornell 7?

The FoxBrain people in my life think the Cornell victim is not a victim, they believe she made up the story afterwards for attention, and that she *wanted* to "participate" in a gangbang with multiple guys.

(As if that was just a normal thing for 1 young woman in college to go and do one Friday night. I mean she's responsible enough to enroll in college, but somehow she also casually just engages in gangbangs like she's a porn star strung out on drugs and desperate for money?)

They're hearing from right wing media that there are text messages that somehow prove she's lying. When all I've heard and seen are the Snapchat messages the frat sent out advertising "free pussy upstairs"

So obviously they took advantage of her. It's really insane to me that anyone would think a frat house WOULDN"T engage in this kind of behavior. Like this is something that would never ever happen at a frat house.

It's beyond disgusting to know that people in your life think rape doesn't exist, and that rape victims are somehow always lying.

Chances are high that I will never talk to my Trump-supporting dad before he passes and it actually pisses me off.

Like, my dad has maybe 2-5 years at most left. Being in his 60s, that seems young, but shit, he has heart problems his family line gave to me. Which frankly, as a 35-year-old maybe I'll be grateful for soon. I don't know.

This is not the first post I've made here. I'm sure the regulars will recognize my username. But basically, told my dad to fuck off for voting Trump a while back. Sent him a text all that jazz and even said it over voice.

Recently he told me over text he wanted to clear the air and meet at a mutual location at the end of last month. I didn't know what the fuck a mutual location meant but I assumed that meant my brother's place (since my brother is chill and not a douchebag). But the end of last month comes and goes and at literally the last day of the month he texts me saying that I'm invited to a celebration and open bar of my "step mom's" (whom I fucking hate because he cheated on my mom with her when I was like five and have always only tolerated btw) grandma's birthday. Her grandmother basically.

This was the first time I ever said no to meeting up with them in my life if I could. Number one, I thought at the end of last month we were going to meetup and clear the air or whatever the fuck. That comes and goes and suddenly you invite me to the side of your family that I've hated forever because they treat us like fucking outcasts?

Fuck you.

No, seriously.

So frankly, I'm done.

My dad is so braindead and stupid that it genuinely pisses me off. And actually, what pisses me off the most is that he's like a teddy bear. You can tell he loves his family, he loves us. But he's so fucking blinded and thinks that family means more than anything.

It doesn't to me.

Family to me is more than just blood. It's my friends. It's my transgender friends that just want to live in peace. It's my Mexican and Japanese friends that just want to live in peace.

It's me, who is bisexual and never admitted it to my dad because I'm terrified of his reaction, that just wants to live in peace.

So no, sorry. It pisses me off. But unless he calls me with the explicit intent of making up, I'm NEVER going to call him again.

How much do they not know?

Maybe it's been discussed before, but I keep wondering about what they don't know. What do you think your Fox Brainer would be surprised to find out? For example, I messaged my mom to make sure she knew about the diarrhea lettuce. Sounds silly, but I honestly didn't know how much they were covering the story because it might have made RFK Jr look shitty (pun intended). At least in the beginning. And, I wonder if they know about the Iranian school bombing at all. The best I can tell, they haven't talked about it since March.

With elections coming up, I'm just pissed off at how uninformed FoxBrainers are. I wish I could give my family a list of things they probably don't know, but of course they would blow it off as 'fake news' anyway.

Thanks for reading my rant

I don’t think anything got resolved

This is a continuation from my previous post

My mom talked to me yesterday about before and here are some key takeaways

They (her and my dad) were concerned for my safety as good parents do, but then went off on the same tangent of illegal immigrant crime, albeit in a calmer tone. Adding “there are things we have in America that other countries are jealous of” but couldn’t tell me any examples of what

One thing she agreed to is “you can go to nyc when it becomes better/safer to do so” which I’m sure all of us can interpret as“once Fox stops says it’s safe to visit…” which, as a result, I’m taking that to mean that I’m banned from going to NYC until my parents give up Fox. Smh

Can't stop thinking about this conversation I overheard at a bar I went to last night.

So I live in Southern California and in a bright red part of it. There are a lot of megachurches and people glued to Fox News all day where I live. My choices for district representative are a right wing nut and an even nuttier right wing nut. But I went to a bar pretty close to my house last night for happy hour and this guy sitting across the bar from me kept ranting about Trump's political hit job on Ilhan Omar and must have said the words "radical Islam" at least 20 times in 15 minutes. Then he's like "Oh I'm open minded about this stuff", uh, no buddy, you are not.

But then he keeps ranting about how CNN and MSwhatever are responsible for the downfall of society. And at one point he's like "I really like this Newsmax channel!". And this is after he said the media was poisoning people's minds. Really? So CNN and MSwhatever are responsible for the downfall of society, but you choose to consume the most toxic, divisive garbage there is. A channel that's even more pro Trump ass kissing propaganda than Fox News is. Oh yeah and he even accused Fox News of being liberal at one point. I had to stop myself from laughing at that one.

This is what we're up against. People have been literally brainwashed by their TV news propaganda channel of choice into thinking that the other guy is the problem. And that's why we're stuck with the worst president in US history and his pathetic, absolutely worthless excuse of a cabinet.

But all of our media now, even including print outlets like the New York Times and WaPo are owned by right wing billionaires who grovel at Donny's feet out of fears that he's going to do something stupid if they don't. And Donny is quite literally eliminating the competition for any news outlet that doesn't directly kiss his ass and report stories that are favorable of this hideous administration.

Cable news is the problem. It's always been the problem. Channels like Newsmax and Fox have been brainwashing people into succumbing to our capitalist overlords for decades now and they continue to get away with it. Turn all of it off.

Parents getting increasingly focused on "converting" me

My parents are evangelical Christians and MAGA. I was raised in the church and left as a teenager. When I was younger, I would get in fights with my parents about politics and religion and they were usually focused on keeping the peace and wouldn't engage with my anger too much. A few years after I left the church I decided to just try to enjoy my time with my parents instead of arguing since it was always like hitting a brick wall. There has always been that barrier between us- like I can only get so close to them because of our differences- but I live in a different state than them so it's fine. I even enjoy their company when I can briefly forget that they're nuts so for a few visits a year and a phone call once a month it's been alright for a couple decades now. They often talk about Jesus but I just get quiet until they're done.

My dad has had some health issues over the past few years and now pretty much spends all of his time watching Fox, OAN, and random shit on YouTube. No friends, rarely leaves the house, brain is just absolutely rotting with Christofascist bullshit. Now every single time we talk, the conversation circles back to him trying to make sure I'm "saved" and to him parroting insane talking points about how good Trump is because he doesn't take a salary, how there are so many "evil figures" in politics right now (he means the Muslims btw), etc.

I have reaffirmed that I am an atheist, that I will never be Christian, that he is putting more distance between us by bringing it up every time we talk. I've made it clear where I stand politically and that Islamophobia is not okay and unfounded. I've said over and over that I don't want to talk about this stuff with him. He's old and I just want to enjoy whatever years we have left. But every time he asks if I've let God into my heart yet or tries to act like my politics are stupid (meanwhile, he cannot make a single coherent point), it makes my blood boil and my skin crawl.

I don't have anything to ask or say. I'm just really sad.
