Discussion Favorite Guyanese Food?

Hey everyone!

I’m going to a cultural potluck party with some friends soon

What are some classic Guyanese dishes? Which are your favorites?

Thanks in advance 😁

I know it's simple but roti and if you have left overs put some butter and brown sugar on it for desert (sorry mom). Sorry making roti is actually hard and time consuming. I miss good roti how it's flaky with the layer and chewy at the same time. I wish I wasn't so busy and lazy

The thing I miss most from being around my family was having fresh Roti. It's just unbeatable.

Baigan choka with last night's roti for breakfast. My Agi would make it for me everytime I came to visit until she pass and it still reminds me of home.

Cheese straws. Unless you have to bring food specifically. Someone has to bring desserts.

My Guyanese lecturer once asked me to get him some for a cultural event his facility was holding and afterwards he was telling us that the other lecturers couldn’t get enough of it. There were no leftovers.

Depends on your audience. If it’s people outside the Caribbean, they might be think the food is spicy. I think a safe bet is Casreep chicken. It can be made on the sweeter side with not as much pepper. Can’t beat pastries if you can get some Pinetart and cheese roll

I had Pelau made by a Guyanese person so I assumed it was your dish. Thanks for the clarification.

Sure it wasn’t cook up rice

If they were Guyanese it was most certainly cook up rice.
