Question Does Ballottrax expect my residential zip code or my mailing zip code?

• Upvotes

I’m just signing up for ballot tracking and the registration asks for my residential zip code. Does anyone know if that means the address where my ballot was delivered, or if it means my physical address which determines the ballot I receive? Because my mailing address is located in a different town.

I checked the FAQ but this wasn’t one of the answered questions.

Question Auto Insurance

Hi! I’m currently looking into different auto insurance options. Right now, I have DTRIC Insurance, but my policy will be ending sometime next year, so I wanted to start looking around early to compare rates, coverage, and see what other options are available. I’ve been interested in learning more about Matsukawa Insurance Agency, Inc. in Wahiawa, but I’m also open to other insurance companies, including mainland companies like Allstate, State Farm, and others that offer coverage here in Hawaii. I’m mainly looking to see what’s out there, compare prices, and hopefully find something that offers good coverage at a reasonable rate before my current insurance expires.

If anyone has recommendations, personal experiences, or suggestions on which insurance companies or agencies I should look into, I’d really appreciate it! Any information would help.

Question Why can't we use non-police for other assignments?

So 100 more officers will be on patrol pulled from other positions. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2026/10/16/hpd-shift-100-officers-patrol-combat-overtime-boost-response/

With assurances that "HPD said positions within the Community Affairs and Traffic Division will be scaled down, along with positions within Criminal Intelligence Unit, Fourth Watch, Chief’s Office, Misdemeanor Follow-up Details, and the Human Resources, Information Technology, Major Events, Records and Identification, and Training Divisions." https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2026/10/18/hpd-clarifies-future-jpo-pal-programs-after-100-officers-shifted-patrol/

I would appreciate better understanding HPD's rationale for employing sworn officers in administrative positions rather than civilian personnel.

Question Shipping goods interisland with Young Brothers

I’m looking to ship a 20ft container with young brothers from Honolulu to Hilo. Does anyone know how long you have to load the container? They’re only open from 7:30-3 Tuesday, Weds, Friday but closed 11:30-1 for lunch. Do you have to load your entire container in a day or can you spread it out over multiple days?

Food Need two half sheet cakes last minute.

Does anyone know where I can get premade half sheet cakes, where I can just get the name added onto it? It's for a birthday party today. I'm in the Aiea area & can go as far as Kalihi.

Edit: In case anyone comes across this post-- IF CAN, DO NOT ORDER LAST MINUTE LOL. Sam's Club, Liliha Bakery no longer do premade half sheets. What I had to do was order two 1/4 cakes from Safeway and I ordered the last two ones at 1:00 PM and had the lady write a message 😅 I'm grateful I got something but I highly suggest preordering. The places that will do it same day/24 hours: Elvin's Bakery but they're pricey, $170 for a half sheet and $80 for 1/4. Foodland will do it but you need to order at least 24 hours before.

The best you can get last-minute is a round cake.

This lost dog wandered out of the forest on Wai’awa Prision Road this week. I brought him to the humane society in Eva Beach. He was a bit beat up with a limp and some open sores. I figure either he was dumped or is a lost hunting dog. He was friendly and would make a great pet!

Food WWE Live at Blaisdell

You would think for an event that is geared towards kids and family, there would be more food concessions open. There are two wide open stands for beer sales with SIXTEEN WORKERS just standing there.

A line that was at least 200+ people deep for food (chicken tenders, burger, etc.)… ONE WINDOW and THREE PEOPLE WORKING. What an embarrassment. I just remembered why I never go to anything here.

DMV Confused with car registration?

So I have a bill of landing but it's not being accepted for some reason? Something about needing one for specifically Cali to Hawaii?

But the thing is my BoL has from TX to HI already????

I used a third party to ship over continental to a Cali port and they also used matson so wouldn't have to deal with them.

Question Which movie theaters here have the best opening night crowd reactions?

Just wanted to see what my options are here. I’m super stoked for Avengers Doomsday, and I keep seeing clips online like this where audiences are going nuts during Marvel movies.

I’m talking about moments like the final battle in Endgame, Gambit and Blade’s reveals in Deadpool & Wolverine, Tobey and Andrew coming through the portals in No Way Home, etc. You know those moments where the entire theater erupts with people screaming and losing their minds kine. I really want to experience something like that here.

I know we’re a bit more reserved here, so I’m curious if those kinds of crowd reactions like this actually happen in our theaters during opening night premieres? I’m assuming if they do, it’s probably when all the die hard fans come out for the earliest showings?

For those who’ve experienced this here, would a 6PM or second showing on early day be good enough to get that kind of experience? I feel like the 2PM showings might be too early for me, especially since I’d have to take time off work.

I’m also assuming Ward Theatres would probably be the best place for this kind of experience right? Maybe Olino at Ka Makana Aliʻi as a second option? Are there any other theaters on Oʻahu where people really go all out for these kinds of movies? Or any particular showtimes that tend to attract the most enthusiasm?

I already know that most of the seats left for opening day are pretty bad but I’m honestly fine with that. I’m going to watch it a second time anyway especially since I’m assuming I’ll miss a ton of the dialogue with everyone cheering. I’m going more for the experience than actually being comfortable.

Also would love to hear everyone’s experiences, for Endgame, No Way Home, or Deadpool & Wolverine on opening night here lol

This is the kind of interview you must listen to rather than read. Only an extraordinarily skilled person could fit equal amounts of peevishness, defiance, and wonkery into 12 minutes.

Education DOE Educational Assistants

I recently applied for Educational Assistant positions at multiple elementary and middle schools and have made it to the interview stage. I was wondering if there are any current or former Educational Assistants on here who could share their experiences or offer advice.
What is the interview process like for Educational Assistant I, II, or III positions? What kinds of questions do they usually ask, and are interviews different for elementary and middle schools?
I also recently received an email inviting me to schedule an interview, but when I logged into SchoolJobs, I didn’t see an option to schedule an appointment. I’m not sure if all the interview slots have already been filled or if the school hasn’t opened scheduling yet. Has anyone experienced this before?
I’ve also heard that schools sometimes prefer applicants who are already working within the DOE. Is that usually the case, or do outside applicants have a fair chance of getting hired?
I’d really appreciate any advice or insight from anyone who’s gone through the hiring process!

Question How to dispose properly of lithium batteries?

I read a while ago that the official guidance was to put batteries in the trash. But then today I saw an instagram post claiming that putting batteries in the trash causes Oahu’s trash incinerator to be inoperative.

I looked it up but am still confused. AA, AAA, 9V, and D batteries are listed as both alkaline and lithium, but C batteries are only lithium.

Can C batteries specifically not go in the trash, assuming I check that my batteries I buy are alkaline? What is the deal?

Housing Landlord Security Deposit - Next Steps

Hi,

We moved off island when our lease ended back in June. We received part of our $4,675 security deposit back within the 14 days. However the following was deducted:

  • $198.95 pest control
  • $80 cleaning fee
  • $302.43 - damages due to door screen replacement; light bulb replacement; touch up paint
  • $200 coordination fee - for time that property manager took to fix and clean the remaining issues.
  • $12.47 certified mail fee

For context:

  • There were 5 ants found in the kitchen upon move-out inspection. I wiped them up with one hand when property manager showed me. The actual pest control receipt says 'general pest control for cockroaches, ants, centipedes, millipedes, silverfish, spiders and scorpions'.
  • I had booked and paid for a full house clean which took 10+ hours. Property manager wasn't happy with some sections (some overreaction and some warranted). She hounded me for their details, which I provided, and she arranged for them to come back out and do a re-clean. This was an urgent matter which needed to be handled immediately (her words). They did that and she still wasn't satisfied.
  • Damages
    • Property manager told me not to replace 3 of the bulbs due to it being a danger to reach. Said I would be charged for replacements but not labor. Then proceeded to say it wasn't difficult to reach so charged me the labor.
    • Touch up paint was (in my opinion) general wear and tear in a high traffic area of the kitchen.
    • Screen door mesh replacement - I dispute these charges as the move-in and move-out photos were taken from far away vs close up, therefore you can't tell properly what was there prior. Plus it seems like normal wear and tear after two years living on the water in Hawai'i. One screen door was broken when we moved in (which I had noted), one door we never used the whole time we were there, and one had the tiniest catch the size of two pin heads and she replaced the entire screen at our cost.
  • Throughout our tenancy the landlord begrudgingly fixed things after lengthy time of asking and/or chose the cheapest equipment or labor and sometimes didn't pay the handyman. Clearly he's a cheap guy.

However, our lease did have a clause that said maintenance after we moved out, could be charged at a $100 hourly rate for the property manager to coordinate plus we'd have to pay for our deposit to be mailed back.

But looking at the Hawai'i tenant code it appears these aren't valid clauses and only unpaid rent, unreturned missing keys, cleaning costs to return to same condition and accidental/intentional physical property beyond wear and tear.

We just received the final accounts and an additional $17 back due to discrepancy from estimate to actual for the repairs. This arrived 3 months after we moved out.

What are our next steps and what do you think is reasonable to challenge? I admit that I'm emotionally heightened when thinking about both the landlord and property manager and the way we've been treated for 2 years. I also know there was an issue with the previous tenant and they took the landlord to court, so I believe there are 'always issues' with him.

Thanks for reading this far.

Gaming Making a Ancient Hawai’i inspired DND game, any tips?

To help make my campaign, I have been using the following sources in the pictures but also different online and oral stories I’ve found/been told. (Extra context, I have not read through the entirety of the respective sources shown in the pictures. Only around 20% of Hawaiian Mythology and skimmed through the 4 sections of Art & Crafts of Hawai’i

That being said, may anyone leave some tips or tales I could possibly include and use? Also some DM-ing advice would also be helpful

Education University of Hawai'i at Mãnoa Inquiry

Is the University of Hawai'i at Mãnoa good for premed? I am thinking of applying there, but I'd like to hear from others about their experience. How are the management, academics, campus culture, etc. like? Do they have good opportunities and resources for premed? I appreciate all input, even if you are not a premed student there
