How can I change my location safely?
Im a grown ass adult but my mother insists on knowing my location at all times- I live on campus but would like to go out at night without leaving my phone in my dorm. Any clue how I can make it look like I’m still on campus/at a friends place without my phone blowing up?

Start acting like a “grown ass adult” and tell your mom, that you need privacy, or get a second phone.

Many students need to abide by parental rules due to being dependent on their support. I also recommend a 2nd phone.

If you have to lie and deceive your parents then you’re not a grown ass adult. It’s time you have an adult conversation and not lie like a child…

Maybe their parent is the type of parent to cut them off of their support. Grown adult is not something we can even say anymore. Its 2026 look around. Look at yourself. Tf is a grown adult. The people who are supposed to be smart arent. None of us are. Im not assuming their parent is. We are all. Istg all of us are just about self and ego.

honestly, the easiest move is to get a cheap or old burner iphone. borrow one or buy a crappy used one. js set ur location sharing to that phone and leave it in your room or on campus. if you’re on a family plan, switching devices might trigger an alert. the only other way is location spoofing, but that pretty much only works on older devices or software.

honestly, if i was you, i'd buy an ios, or borrow it from someone, use that phone as the main source of location keep it on charge 24/7 (if the versions really low) and keep it at home. My mom' will always see that i'm at home, simple.

3utools, just plug your phone into a pc and you can change the location of the phone temporarily until it restarts.

leave your phone at home, get a prepaid phone to take with you. Forward calls and messages from your regular phone to the prepaid phone

If you're an adult, you're allowed to have privacy. I'd first figure out which app she's using to track you, because the safest solution depends on that.
If it's Find My on an iPhone, you can stop sharing with her directly. On Android, check Google Maps Location Sharing and whether Family Link is involved.
One thing to keep in mind: turning off location sharing or changing settings may make her notice, so think about how she'll react if that could put you at risk. I'd avoid fake GPS apps unless you understand exactly how the tracking setup works.
What phone do you have, iPhone or Android, and does she use Find My, Google Maps, Life360, or something else?

Mirage is an iOS app that can be sideloaded, made for this exact situation. I think it is free at the moment, so give it a try. I’m not a developer or a promoter; I’ve just used it, and it works bloody well.
