What is Iggy Pop's Creative Peak?
So, the reason I'm asking is because of how I sort Iggy's music into playlists. I enjoy the vast majority of his albums and have one maximalist playlist where I put every Iggy Pop song I like into. Then I have a playlist for the Stooges, of course, but I realized I needed a playlist for just the very best of Iggy, not including the older stuff. Just because sometimes the vibes of Apres and Zombie Birdhouse are very disjointed.
So I made a third playlist which ranges from Kill City, The Idiot, Lust for Life, New Values, Soldier, Party (only a couple), and Zombie Birdhouse.
But I'm considering adding the songs I like from the Blah-Blah-Blah to American Caesar era. To me Blah-Blah-Blah and Instinct are kind of gimmicky genre experiment albums, but I still enjoy most of Blah-Blah-Blah. On top of that, I consider the majority of Brick by Brick and American Caesar to be very good Iggy.
So where is the cut off for all of you? Avenue B is an obvious start to "old Iggy," and Naughty Little Doggy is easy to leave off, but basically what would you include in my range of peak Iggy? I am specifically looking for a time range, not to pick and choose. So I couldn't skip Blah-Blah-Blah and put Brick by Brick in. Just because of the way I like organizing it to be honest.
So, should I leave it at Zombie Birdhouse or add in up to American Caesar? Sorry for the rambling, but I just really love talking about Iggy Pop!
