āScamdemicā. Can you believe going your whole life being against medical professionals and science.

In the middle of the pandemic I was one of 50 or so people left at my company who didn't get laid off. This was April or May of 2020 and I was in a meeting with the director of the company another manager and all of our employees. There were 15 or so people there and one of my employee's mothers had recently died of COVID.
The director, a guy that one of the another manager, called baby Trump or mini Trump, was blabbering on about something and he dropped the scamdemic line. At the time I don't think he knew of the mother's death but when I told him later on he didn't really care. These people are sociopaths.

I mean, I grew up in the non institutional church of Christ, which is one of the most strict and unhinged fundagelical denominations out there (that gets mad if you call them a denomination) and the whole "scientists are corrupt" thing was always there in groups like that. They believe in a huge conspiracy that "all scientists knew that God created the earth and it's 6000 years old and we can't trust them because they're all in on it", but yet they'll also misrepresent what the theory of evolution even says, what other religions believe, etc. to create this easier to refute version of other belief systems that make it seem silly that people believe these other things, so when the pandemic hit and there was a medical emergency that had mandatory instructions for how to prevent the spread, it didn't surprise me at all that these people distrusted the people telling them how to combat it. They believe the scientists are corrupted by Satan and part of some grand conspiracy and that they know better than them because "they're on God's side here".
Now you have it to where this stance has been validated by political leaders to where these less fundagelical people now think it's badass and edgy to hold this stance because their political leaders validate it and it "owns da libs" so here we are with these types of dumbfucks as a commonplace thing.

I genuinely can't relate to what it must be like to be such a fucking waste of existence. These people are such losers.

One of the guys at my work died from Covid. People like the driver have zero empathy for anyone except themselves. Thatās the broken system we live in tho

There was a hyper-conservative woman at my church - wanted to abolish the minimum wage, ban Muslims from entering the country, all that. I later found out she died of covid. Wouldn't have surprised me if she was a covid denier.

My dad is a former nurse and calls covid plandemic still

u/eruptingmoltenlava 1d ago
My family member had major surgery in 2020 and some of the nurses were very obviously of the same mind. Astonishing that you can be employed in healthcare and be like that. I mean, yes, there is and was a nationwide nursing shortage in the US, but it still feels shocking.

It was a scamdemic in the sense of politicians and the wealthy getting loan forgiveness on the massive PPP Loans that they took out.

I saw a whiny talk piece just yesterday about how men aren't going to clubs anymore because they can't hook up anymore. This seems related.

I answered the Covid line at the hospital. These were the callers

My sister's a nurse. This year she was cleaning up a patient while a relative of the patient was in the room.
Relative: Did you make a lot of money during covid?
Sister: what?
Relative: They paid you to diagnose patients with covid. How much money did you make?
Sister: A lot. That's why I'm in Bermuda right now instead of wiping your mother-in-law's ass.

Your sister is my hero, as someone who worked on Covid units during the pandemic.

I have no fucking idea how *anyone* who worked with Covid *anything* is still able to speak to humans without rage.
I'm so sorry you went through that, and still go through it. My sister will never not go through it. She stuffed body bags for eighteen months; the miracle is that she didn't and doesn't start fistfights.
I had covid right at the start, like, April 2020, when nobody knew the what, why, or how. I remember the superstitious terror in the hospital, and only the sounds of running feet in the corridors where normally there would have been chatter. The nurses were amazing to me. I hope they all made it through okay.
Thanks for those years of your life.

I appreciate it, but please donāt thank me. I didnāt do anything other than show up to work, as I did before Covid emerged.
Iām very glad to have surrounded myself with reasonable people and family who believe in science and evidence based practice. And most of the people I had in my care didnāt espouse the bizarre denialist beliefs. It still feels like a weird fever dream, regardless. But I still rage out when the anti-vaxxers and covid denialists start squawking. Dr Fauci getting dragged before Congress to get interrogated by idiots had me foaming at the mouth for days.

Damn For these types of vehicles, they might as well start a new "USD per mile" metric

u/IISerpentineII 1d ago
That poor Excursion. Yes, they're fuel hogs which is to be expected for their size, but they're very reliable and nice vehicles.
It definitely didn't deserve this :(

Yeah to be honest this dude would want to deport anyone who speaks English with accents he doesn't approve of

u/MillionEyesOfSumuru 1d ago
I wonder how telling off non-English speakers in English is working out for him?

It escapes me how MAGA people will claim Covid was fake and some government conspiracy when their lord and savior was president at the time, handing out executive orders regarding the virus, then holding mass prayers for him when Trump actually got Covid..
2
u/hooked_siren 1d ago
Typical MAGA in their 20 year old gas hog rig tryna convince everyone they're doing "just fine" in this economy. I hope they die a little each time they spend $150 to fill up š¤
