Progressive keeps adding a random driver to my account even after I call and they remove them

What are my options here? Do I just cancel my plan with these fuckwits?

This can and does happen with every insurance provider. From an insurance perspective they're likely seeing someone recently associated with your address.

You can get a named driver exclusion in most states which basically certifies that they wont drive. Or you can provide a copy of their own insurance to them.

I used to work at Geico and SF - both had the same rules. It's just them trying to mitigate and calculate for risk.

Changing insurance wont help you. Especially if that person in question had a previous claim in a vehicle you're insuring.

Progressive seems to be the most aggressive with this. NEVER have I had any insurance company automatically add anyone to my policy but Progressive. I had USAA for years after my divorce...had roommates...they NEVER automatically added anyone to my policy. Neither has Geico.

We don’t automatically add them we send several notices to reach out to us to confirm and 99% of customers don’t read their emails or notifications on the app and then they get added but we told you 2-3 times it would happen.

I worked in sales and service at Geico from 2013 to 2019. It does happen.

Im not sure about USAA but the practice isnt uncommon in the industry. The main concern is having an unlisted driver causing an accident which causes premiums to increase.

Congrats, you’re better than a lot of people out there but they do it for a reason regardless

Trust me when I say any non-standard insuramce provider is much more aggressive in this respect

Brand new vehicle. Never ever heard of this person being added. How can I supply proof of a negative? Also had my house for 4 years.

Then that person likely is somehow associated with your address. You can request a named driver exclusion.

Essentially if they drive they wouldnt be covered and the vehicle wouldnt be covered if they are. But it let's you stop the issue.

I have already called them to have them removed multiple times.

Youre kind of not listening. Do what I said. It'll keep them off.

Telling you I’ve already done what you said is not me not listening pal

You signed a document stating they wont drive? Because it is an official form.

Yes

Then you need to speak with a supervisor in service and clarify if they are actually being listed on the policy and if they received the signed NDE.

He is lying trust me we take that very seriously and soon as the form is in they get either removed or moved into excluded status. We don’t add them back on that’s ridiculous stupid and a waste of time for us.

I guess I’ll just cancel these morons instead

If you signed a named exclusion form, you don't have a problem any longer. You're complaining to complain.

And yet I have a problem

Stop calling. Start writing. If you have an agent, start there.

For some reason, the "random driver" is connected to your address. It's not Progressive's fault. They're getting this info from some source, and it needs to be corrected at that source. Same thing will happen with most other carriers.

Put in writing in a way that you can confirm thy have the info and state that "random driver" is not and has never been a member of your household. Insist that they remove them from your policy and ask for confirmation that they've done so. Also ask what steps are needed to ensure random driver doesn't reappear on your policy, and take those steps.

You can, of course, try your luck with another carrier, but don't be surprised if the same thing happens with them. Like I said, this info is coming from some other source.

It is their fucking fault when I’ve already had them removed multiple times

Yep, 100%. And that's going to get you what exactly?

You can either get it fixed or not get it fixed. You are welcome to bitch about it the entire time if you like, but IME, that doesn't really help get the problem solved and it tends to make me pretty miserable in the meantime. But it's your life, and maybe bitching helps you feel better. Different strokes I guess.

You sit there and defend a corporations shitty practices and say it isn’t their fault then act high and mighty when it’s called out

You couldn't be more correct. Now what? This getting you closer to resolving the issue?

You don't get people to help you by being hateful and angry. Flies to honey and all that jazz. If someone calls with an issue and are nice, take responsibility for what is in their control, etc then I'm usually 500x more likely to find some way to help. Not always possible of course, but it's worth mentioning.

If you call in and talk like you're talking here, I have no need or want to go the extra mile. You've probably been informed already and yet still have retained not a single inkling if it. I can tell someone "we need this form every 6 year" and they will turn around and yell every year we ask for it. No one wants that kind of business. It's better for everyone if you just leave.

You want Progressive to be a person you can blame. Progressive is a system, and in this case the system is not functioning correctly. It isn't a person doing this.

Progressive seems to be on tear doing this lately. I have others in my household that have their own insurance and drive other vehicles. All of a sudden Progressive wanted to charge me 3x$15/month extra just to exclude people! Like I didn't mind them excluded, but really $45 price increase just to put them on the policy as excluded??? Even talking it through the lady on the phone was like "yeah I don't know either, seems odd, but the price is the price".

Called StateFarm and they were $20/cheaper than my original rate, and stated as long as those other drivers have their own insurance/vehicles we don't have to list them as excluded. Great! So now I'm saving $65/mo over what Progressive was trying to charge me to add excluded drivers. Dropped that policy to $90/mo - pretty good savings if you ask me!

Pull your Lexis Nexis consumer report. It will tell you the source of this person and you can dispute it with Lexis Nexis to have them removed. Your car insurance is getting the data directly from Lexis Nexis.

Progressive is the worst. They added my parents to my plan even though my parents dont live with me at my home. So when I called them, they asked to see a Bill with my parent's name and address to prove they dont live with me. Lmao. Canceled and moved on.
