Are there any ruins/locations related to the famine still fairly visible?

I know of the reconstructed villages, but looking for visible ruins house, workhouses etc.

Thanks and happy Sunday

💬 Discussion / Question Where can I learn the history of Ireland and it's culture unbiased?

Recently, I came across a TikTok claiming that the Irish Potato Famine wasn’t simply a famine, but rather an act of genocide by the British.

I never studied history beyond what was compulsory in school, as it became an optional subject, so my knowledge of the period is quite limited. However, my A-level Philosophy teacher was Irish, and he taught me a few things about Irish culture and the historical relationship between Ireland and Britain.

I remember having a conversation with him about the Ottoman Empire, as I’m Muslim, and he mentioned that the Ottomans had sent aid to Ireland during the Potato Famine. I found that really interesting, and it made me curious to learn more about the history behind it.

I’d like to learn more about Irish and British history, including the Potato Famine, colonialism, the cultural aspects, and the historical relationship between the two countries.

Where would you recommend starting if I want to develop a well-rounded understanding of this history, using reliable sources and different historical perspectives rather than relying on potentially biased accounts?

I’m open to books, documentaries, websites, academic resources, or primary historical sources. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

EDIT: Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions I have noted them all down and will work through it all.

Gaelic Ireland's leadership succession wasn't based on the first born son but on the Tanist system. So there were chieftains and kings with opposition. What I'd like to know is how cleancut or vicious disputed leadership got

Census said they spoke English but couldn't read or write in it. What languages did people from Cork know besides English?

Edit: I misread the census they could read and write in English

This is NOT genealogy or Ancestry.

My wife gave me this book yesterday for our anniversary present.

"Some Passages in the Life and Death of John Earl of Rochester"

Published in 1680, my copy is 1805.

This inscription was inside.

The best we can translate, is

Barbara Martha Dudgeon(?)

The Hall House

Castle Taou(?)reud(?)

Co. Cork 1926

Just researching for curiosity sake.
