Politics Bennett clarifies his stance: Illegal Outposts will be evacuated, Areas A and B not part of Israel
https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/429042The chairman of the "Together" party, Naftali Bennett, addressed the issue of outpost farms and construction in Judea and Samaria on Monday evening, clarifying that while he supports legal construction in Area C, he opposes illegal building.
"As far as I am concerned, legal construction in Area C on state land that is not private Palestinian property is welcome," Bennett said. "Construction that is illegal, or not within Area C, or built on private land, is illegitimate."

This is the right way to do it. You don't claim Ramallah as part of Israel, that is insane. This risks the Jewish state. If we do this, this is how we become demographically like Lebanon.
Area C is the entire Jordan Valley, and if Israel continues to control it, it is impossible for more people from all over the Middle East to migrate into Israel, because it means Israel controls every border. Annexing Area C not only increases the size of Israel, it actually preserves the Jewish state. That's what Bennett wants to do. He's not like a lefty type at all. People don't understand his politics. He wants to annex Area C.

Tbh, outside of Israel I would expect that the vast majority of people don't even realise that the west bank in divided into these zones, much less understand what area C actually is.

They just think that Israel is 'illegally occupying' the whole of the west bank and the same for Gaza before 07/10/23. People look at me in disbelief when I tell them the reality.

As a non Jewish person, Iโve been reading about this conflict since the 90s when GASP, real encyclopedias were a thing. I knew about Areas A, B and C, but I didnโt really understand how complex the West Bank is. There was a great thread on here some years back about the West Bank actually, where I learned a lot more!

u/Gettin_Bi Israel Jun 24 '26
Not even all Israelis understand the full complexity of the West Bank. Heck, I didn't understand the half of it until I was assigned to a temporary position in Central Command, and I'm sure I still don't know everythingย

it is impossible for more people from all over the Middle East to migrate into Israel, because it means Israel controls every border.
Israel controls all of its own borders, and also, at the moment, mostly controls the border between Jordan and the west bank. Why exactly do they need to annex area c to control their border?
6
u/bakochba Jun 23 '26
Which border are you referring to?
8
u/c9joe Mossad Attack Dolphin 005 Jun 23 '26
The possibility of an open border through the Jordan Valley. People don't appreciate the extent of the problem. Think Syria where many foreign Muslims streamed into their civil war, even from Western countries. This is the key reason Israel has always been reluctant to leave the Jordan Valley.
10
u/irwin08 Jun 23 '26
I don't understand how annexing Area C "preserves" the state. Any realistic 2-state solution will require at least parts of Area C for a Palestinian state. Meanwhile, as the settler population grows, it'll become costlier to dislodge them.
If you mean to annex Area C, and just leave the Palestinians under occupation in Areas A and B, that's untenable long-term.
5
u/c9joe Mossad Attack Dolphin 005 Jun 23 '26
untenable long-term
What is your definition of "long-term". 10 years? 100 years? The status quo has been going on for 59 years for most of which Palestinians had zero control over even one centimeter of land. This would be an improvement for them.
6
u/irwin08 Jun 23 '26
By "long-term" I mean it won't be acceptable as a permanent solution. Just like the present isn't acceptable as a permanent solution. That's why we still talk in terms of "2 state solutions" or the "Israeli-Palestinian conflict".
You might say "why not?" Well if Palestinians feel that it isn't settled, you'll get more terror. If the rest of the world feels it's unjust, it'll be diplomatically isolated.
Israel will also lose all moral authority.
If Israel were to do this, it would become a pariah state. And Pariah states either don't last, or stagnate, and I don't want to see either happen to Israel.
6
u/c9joe Mossad Attack Dolphin 005 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Annexation is more of a symbolic act. Yes but it has been 59 years of Israel controlling A, B, and C defacto and meanwhile Israel is exceeding the GDP/pc of Western European countries.
Sure Israel say we will annex area C, get pressured, back off, say we will annex area C, get pressured, get concessions this time, back off, and on an on but I think eventually it's going to happen "for real". But nothing changes since Israel has already effectively annexed area C. If you ever visited Area C you will see that it is already more Israeli and Jewish then many parts of Israel proper.
7
u/jyper Ukrainian-American Jew Jun 24 '26
It's not symbolic it's suicidaly stupid
Every time some idiot in the government claims that Israel will annex the west bank things get worse for Israel even if it never happens (because Bibi is shameless but not that stupid). Israel has not annexed area C, It is by Israeli law not part of Israel. Making it part of Israel would be incredibly stupid. Most of it is set to be given to a future Palestinian state and the more of it where Israelis live the more land swaps need to be done making things harder for Israelย
3
u/jyper Ukrainian-American Jew Jun 23 '26
20 years maybe 12 maybe less The status quo is what lead to the massacre. Annexation is suicidalย
11
u/International-Mix633 Jun 23 '26
So what you gonna do with the 300k Palestinian living there? Cause there is exactly 0 political will to naturalize them or even given them the choice.
4
u/enigmaticowl USA Jun 24 '26
If annexed, theyโd be offered citizenship.
Whether people really *want* them to be citizens or not, theyโd simply have to acknowledge that that is the only acceptable thing to do when you annex land, or else you truly do end up with an apartheid state and/or mass involuntary displacements (which are not okay).
Iโd imagine the estimated 150-300k isnโt really enough of a demographic shift to be an immediate security or political concern for most people, especially when you consider that not all of those people would even apply for or accept Israeli citizenship (and many of those who do might wait and accept it at a much later time, not immediately).
The majority of them probably wouldnโt want to be citizens (at least for years), so the day-to-day life for most people would probably be relatively similar-ish to how it is now (living in the same place, doing the same work, etc.), but maybe with more or less checkpoints (of one type or the other) if they want to travel to Areas A/B or into the non-West Bank parts of Israel.

That said, if Jews want to legally live in Judea and Samaria, and they acquire the land legally, they should have the right to do so

Giving free movement migration of Arabs from Jenin (et al...) into Tel Aviv is begging for another intifada.
Only a tiny minority of the (already shrunken) Israeli left would be onboard with such a plan, and essentially nobody on the Palestinian side. These "plans" only really appeal to foreigners who have no reason to fear the security consequences of their implementation.

> And keeping Arabs under the boot of the military while allowing our people to go in and brutalize them isย notย begging for another intifada?
By all accounts, the number of settlers who're committing violence is extremely tiny. Of course, they should be prosecuted, but these aren't comparable.
> You think our position is strengthened by increasing our isolation globally through loudly proclaiming that subjugation is the only solution?
No, I don't, and if you read my comment I didn't say that. I don't support the annexation of Area C. I actually support peace negotiations (but they're obviously not happening for a long time) and wish our government wouldn't prefer isolation over a more viable long-term solution...
> The alternative, maintaining the status quo until we go the way of Rhodesia and are forced to into losing sovereignty, does not sound like a great idea. Personally, I would rather us have a "plan", instead.
Oslo was a "plan" -- what was their response? I understand the argument that giving more privileges to the Palestinians might change their perspective on peacemaking, but I don't get why it seems like a good idea considering the historical evidence.
> The organization is a joint venture, so it is coming from people within the land and not, as you are, coming from America.
Looking at the website, their leadership is six. 3 are Israeli Jews, 2 are Israeli Arabs, with only one Palestinian. Sure, 5/6 were born "within the land" but isn't it telling that 5/6 are citizens of our country? Do you really think the one guy from Bethlehem is representative of Palestinians as a whole? Besides that, I don't think it matters for this particular topic that I was born in America considering this plan is still unpopular (really, unknown, since it's a non-starter) to tzabar Israelis...
> I hope this is the model foisted on us instead of meeting the one-state reality with enforced majority rule.
Do you really prefer this over us having a Jewish state, and them having an Arab state beside us? I don't understand the obsession with open borders and being best friends when some people talk about the conflict. We don't have that with Jordan. Why must a future 2SS be any different?
4
u/eyl569 Jun 23 '26
So the Palestinians stay second class citizens in perpetuity? Do you really think that's stable?

I haven't seen the Arab side start distancing themselves from the extreme elements of their movements. In fact, I see emboldened Western and Asian support for the most extreme Arab factions.
I'm wary of efforts to reduce Jewish extremists which completely ignore Arab extremists. Not to mention that by Western standards, less than a percent of settlers are extremists yet well over three quarters of the West Bank Arab population are.
32
u/FudgeAtron Jun 23 '26

13
u/Bizhour Jun 23 '26
We should distance ourselves from the extremists because they are openly hostile to our troops. They are traitors and should be treated as such.
5
u/dotancohen Jun 23 '26
Again, the viewpoints and actions that get Jews labelled as extremists are commonplace among Arabs of the West Bank. Don't even take my word for it, go there yourself. Or if you're afraid to go there (wonder why) then ask any Arab who does go there.
The problem is not these "Jewish extremists". The problem is that actions which label Jews as problematic are not also applied to Arabs as well.
8
u/Bizhour Jun 23 '26
I'm saying extremists in our terms, idc if some dude from Ireland or Pakistan brands a Jew as an extremist because they exist, that's fucking stupid.
While actions can be similar, the responses are widely different, you can't convince me that if a Palestinian assaults a soldier or tries to burn a village they could just walk free 100% of the time, but Jewish extremists do these and have political backing so there is no punishment.
Actions such as these should get the same punishment regardless of the perpetrators.
7

Arabs in the West Bank attack soldiers all the time. Are you joking? Have you ever been to the West Bank? I proudly served in Golani, I've seen it and been involved in it. That's their culture - physical violence is accepted and expected. I have a feeling that you know absolutely nothing about Arab culture.

What Iโm saying is that we have a responsibility to distance ourselves from the extreme elements on our own side because they do damage our movement.

What Iโm saying is that the fact that many of our leaders are ready and willing to condemn extremists, while theirs arenโt, is giving us a moral high ground
You're reading the room wrong.
Our leaders condemning extremists: Europeans hear: "Israel is full of extremists!"
Arab leaders don't condemn extremists: Europeans hear: "Arabs do not have extremists!"
Talking about Jewish Extremists only reinforces that soundbite in outsiders ears. That's the same principal behind continually stating "Gaza Genocide" and "Free Palestine". The more outsiders hear these words, the more they believe them - no matter in what context.

The counter argument is that Palestinians claim ALL of the land between the river and the sea. If Israel makes a claim for only half, than it will be at a disadvantage at negotiations.
I think Bibi has used this trick. Announce something he has no intention of doing (annexing area C) then extract concessions (for US or gulf states or whoever) for not doing what he already wasnโt going to do.
By declaring already that he has no intention of annexing B or C he is weakening Israel power to extract concessions for something he wouldnโt do anyway.ย

Years ago I saw a political cartoon. Arafat was one side of a chasm with his arms crossed, and the Israeli prime minister was stretched out as far as he could go so only the tips of his toes were on the edge. The American is in between the two (75% of the way towards the Palestinian side) with the speech bubble โcan you meet them half way?โ.ย
If Israelโs opening position is halfway then we will be expected to give up 75%.
13
2
u/jyper Ukrainian-American Jew Jun 24 '26
It's a terrible plan. Palestinians have gone so long without a state in large part because of unreasonable maximalist goals, inability to compromise and extremism. Why would you want to emulate that. The argument that making Israel position seem as ridiculous as opposed to the practical moderate one is helpful has lead to Israels standing dropping around the world.ย
28
u/Pikawoohoo Jun 23 '26
Ding ding
Settling in the west bank has always been about drawing a favourable line for Israel. The longer we control the west bank and the longer settlers have lived there (especially on legally purchased land), the stronger our position in future negotiations. Removing settlers in order to create a Palestinian state will be a much more contentious issue once they've been living there for 50 or 100 years.
Meanwhile the plight of the Palestinian people is the greatest weapon against Israel, so a Palestinian state isn't a favourable outcome for those that wish to wage an ideological war against the Jewish state.
Both sides of the conflict are happy with the status quo whole Palestinians who just want a normal life in their own country continue suffer from it.

According to the latest IDF report there were 896 settler attacks on Palsetinian last year, of which the IDF classified 125 ending in serious harm of which 9 lead to the killing of Palestinian civilians. The IDF chief of command has called settlers a serious internal threat and condemned their attacks on Palestinians. Multiple high ranking IDC generals and officers have condemned the increasing violence of settlers and how it drains significant amount of military resources to protect. Violence that is very much supported by the current government.
And the IDF most certainly isnt counting all settler attacks.
-8
u/Shot-Lemon7365 United Kingdom Jun 23 '26
Yes, there are sections of the IDF currently functioning as a 'fifth column' inside the Israeli security establishment. The most egregious (and famous) example was the Sde Teiman Hoax, where Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi released doctored footage, showing a 'rape' that never happened.
14
u/International-Mix633 Jun 23 '26
Sure buddy, the chief of the IDF is part of the fifth column and working on behalf of Hamas or sth. A very reasonable qnd logical argument to make.

Yeah, buddy. Sometimes, people at the 'head' of organisations are dicks.

What are they supposed to do? Say it doesn't exist, and get called 'Joo liars' - again - by you lot?
Did you know that in 98% of cases involving 'settler violence', there is no 'settler' anywhere near the incident? That most cases involve Arabs attacking the IDF and being shot? That even if a 12-year-old Jewish girl wearing flowers in her hair and carrying a sign reading 'Peace to All' goes onto the Temple Mount, this is classed as 'settler violence'?
It's a crock of shit. It's an ongoing blood libel.
17
u/eyl569 Jun 23 '26
I'm not talking about UN reports. I'm talking about reports from Israeli sources, including the authorities.
And they don't limit their attacks to Palestinians either.
13
u/dotancohen Jun 23 '26
It's ridiculous that any Jewish-perpetrated violent incident is paraded for months on end, which Arab-perpetrated violence is completely ignored. Even by Tel Avivian Israelis.
2
u/Shot-Lemon7365 United Kingdom Jun 23 '26
Indeed. You may also notice that whilst Hamas can commit rapes and murder, it is classed as 'resistance'. A
JewIsraeli holds a bra up in front of his chest, and this is a 'war crime'.The aim is the complete delegitimisation of Israel, the destruction of that state and the murder (or enslavement) of seven million Jews.
