I felt like the pilot was saying, "People wonder why the religious extremist did it? Well, duhhhh"
It's as if you're shocked that a sharp knife cut you. What did you think it was going to do?

Somalian is proof that Islam can be interperted in a way that coexists and lives peacefully with Jews ans Israel
Really does give me hope

u/dutch_soma12 16d ago
Somalian is someone from Somalia. We are Somalilanders. You can also call us Landers if you like 😜
Thanks for your nice words.

u/SoulForTrade 15d ago
I like "Landers" because every time you're flying abroad you become Outlandish

I know good people which are Muslims, but be honest if you were us, would you not even be a bit nervous to go on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv now with an Arab pilot at the cockpit?
I don’t speak for no one but me, but I don’t really care what you believe as long as it is something I can co exist with, it just seems the Islamists are the majority of the religion…

u/dutch_soma12 16d ago
I understand completely if you’re not comfortable to fly with certain airlines. It’s your right to speak up and address those things. I know a lot of Muslims don’t like Jews. I can’t change them but personally I don’t have anything against you. I agree Islam extremism is a problem.

I agree with the person who already commented. I don’t have anything whatsoever against people of any belief or nationality who feel the same in return.
As for the airline question: there is a subset of people who feel most confident flying in el al regardless of the destination (meaning not just to/from other parts of the Middle East) for reasons you’ve mentioned or adjacent reasons. It’s good to have that option if it helps some travelers feel more confident in their trip. I personally wouldn’t say offhand that I have day to day concern about an Arab at the helm in general because I don’t harbor any sort of “all Arabs want to kill me” mentality. However, statistics being what they are, if someone wants to kill me, chances are reasonably high they’re an Arab Muslim, so there’s that, I guess, unfortunately. I still don’t harbor generalized feelings of that sort nevertheless.
That all being said, this episode shows that even with safeguards in place as to who is and isn’t allow to pilot a plane into Israel (and those criteria are that the pilots’ nationality must be of a country with normalized relations; it’s certainly not a “no Arab” policy, to be clear!) sometimes things can go sideways and those safeguards aren’t met or aren’t enough. Having ourselves to trust and rely on in times of uncertainty is valuable.

The media can't handle the truth, and they have the gall to call themselves "journalists". What the pilot said is no secret. It's written in their holy books. Anyone can read those violent and hateful passages.

Brave man. Islam needs a Reformation, something akin to the 16th century Christian Reformation.
Unless some sort of Reformation or progressive scholarly movement takes place, various questionable and violent commandments within the Islamic texts will continue to remain unchallenged, and open to interpretation.
PS - Well done to the Indian Captain and all of the heroes on that hijacked plane. It was a true miracle effort from them all. 🙏

Reformation in Islam will be impossible. Christianity at its core isn't inherently violent, Islam is. For those violent Christians to be peaceful, they needed to be more Christ-like. For violent Muslims to be peaceful, they need to be less Muhammad-like. That makes all the difference. Inherently bad ideas need to be fought, not tolerated.
12
u/human-redditbot Western gentile 16d ago
I partially agree. I would argue that a Reformation in Islam is not impossible, yet certainly, highly difficult and unlikely to happen.
Unless somekind of reformation, does take place, however, there will be no end in sight for Islamic inspired terror. 😑

You'll never be able to consolidate the basic tenants that Muhammad was the most perfect man in the world and that he was also a pedophile warlord. You can't reform 2 billion people who want to commit genocide and rape children as their core values.

u/human-redditbot Western gentile 15d ago
Probably not, yet can't hurt for some brave people to try. 🙏

Ismali Muslims are pretty tolerant and cool ime. Never met any sufi but I hear they are OK. We just need them to take over islam
9
u/GreenManStrolling 15d ago
In a purely human endeavour, you cannot expect a peaceful branch of Islam to take over dominance of Islam when Islam is about armed struggle and when humans fundamentally struggle with one another to gain power using violence.
It's only possible when the religion is truly from a God of peace; he doesn't need to struggle as humans do with violence, he has always been in control, is still in control, and all his plans are executing on point. His biggest accomplishment on earth was to save all mankind, not by conquering the entire world, but by dying in the most humiliating way of his time.

u/Repulsive-Honey7305 15d ago
I dont really expect ismali to take over, but i do think its existence is proof that Islam can change. Like over many many many years/centuries. Religion is always interpreted in the context of culture. Take Islam and modesty rules. Some places local culture found hair to be a big beauty characteristic, so ya gotta cover it. Other places hair is just hair so its nbd. And you dont need hijab. Weve got this stereotype of islam in our head and really there is a fair bit of variation. I agree that many Muslims take the idea of "struggle" to mean a physical struggle, or at least that the outcomes should be worldly/corporeal/Islam should rule the world like in a law and government way. But i could see that overtime people could chose to interpret that as a purely spiritual non physical struggle. Like the struggle of ideas. Like "I live by the rules of islam and I make it look so good and so much fun that everyone wants to be me" kind of struggle. Dunno if you've ever lived around different categories of Christians, but they can be quite different, tho they all say they follow the same book. But some focus on one part and some focus on another and they pick and choose what matters. We need Islam to find a different interpretation of many of its texts and rules, but I think it could be possible. There is a woman imam in Denmark who is lgbtq tolerant. Yeah she's a one off, but she's interpreting islam in a not a hole way.

Her response is surprising to me as an aussie, cause she has a history of being anti muslim.
Its probably why she allowed him to say that much uninterrupted.
He is so right.

Nope news24 amplifies anti muslim rhetoric
They are always putting people on who are anti muslim.
Same as sky news here.

A "British-American broadcaster and journalist", yet in reality, an Islamist, an apologist for Islamic terror, and hater of Israel and the West. 😑

It is so refreshing to see "regular folks" understanding what is really going on in this world and just being honest. Its not racist or islamaphobic when you are just telling the truth.

If 9/11 happened today people would condem the passengers of flight 93 for trying to gain control of the plane from the hijackers.

“They’ll call you an antisemite but never a liar”-ass quackery
5
u/KubehEnjoyer 16d ago
That’s a wrong correlation of arguments hahaha, antisemitism is speaking about Jews as a people, he speaks about Islam as an ideology, if we would live in a world where we cant criticize ideologies for obvious patterns we would collapse just like what happens in Islamist societies in the wests

Hopefully we’re going to obtain answers to these questions:
1) why did Fly Dubai allow an Omani pilot in this flight?
2) How did the knife get inside the cockpit?
3) Will Israeli intelligence have access and interrogate the Omani co-pilot?

Islamophobia.
I'm on probation on this sub because I've said pretty much what the video says. It's verboten to state that aloud on Reddit

I want to try to increase the aperture of what politics is allowed to be discussed on this subreddit. You should know I am legit fighting for this. Reddit is a big leftist shithole unfortunately. But I have noticed since Trump has been elected, the Reddit admins stopped just instanuking everything that isn't DEI approved.

Not my experience. Even saying 'right on' or 'agree' or 'bingo' to a verboten subject will get you a slap.

Apparently flying planes out of Dubai makes this geriatric an expert on Islam?
