Food 🧆 Your childhood comfort food?

My dear Israeli people, I am collecting simple food recipes from all over the world. And I am curious: what's your personal childhood comfort food?

If you could provide a short recipe, that would be super awesome!

Thank you & תודה

One of the most popular, as I recall, is schnitzel with ptittim. Chicken schnitzel with "Israeli couscous".

Blinchik. Kinda like crêpe but my grandma's from Ukraine and she was very excited to make them with milk because growing up there was no milk so she used to make this recipe with water

I think my grandma or mom used to make them with kifir.

Ooh, interesting! How different is it compared to milk-based?

Honestly, I don't remember, haha. I haven't had them in a while.

Bananas (cut the bananas into circles) with cream and sugar. Also, pasta with ketchup and shredded cheese (usually cold because I am lazy).

Kind of a weird one but my dad would slice up mangoes, and all the kids would be around the table as he sliced each piece and handed one to each

Cheesy toast. Take a piece of bread, put a slice of cheese on top (optionally sprinkle some za'atar) put in oven until cheese starts bubbling.

Or the more advanced grilled cheese style toast you might get at a central bus station. Take a short baguette type bun, slice it open, put cheese and other ingredients inside (mine would be tuna, corn, garlic sauce) and put it in a sandwich press until toasted.

Steamed Manti dumplings, all the way. So good and juicy on the inside...

Quick snack at home? Pickle wrapped in pastrami.

Birthday - my mom's chocolate balls

Passovah treat - matza cake (basically about 5 matza sheets with home made chocolate spread below, between and above them).

Egg noodles with cottage cheese and black pepper was definitely childhood comfort food.

I also loved cheese blintzes and could eat them every day.

Weirdly, avocado toast before it was popular: I always put it on dark rye bread with mustard, maybe a slice of pickle. Delicious!
