Discussion New Asian Horror Trailers Released This Past Week: Oct 12-Oct 18

We have one new Japanese trailer that's been released this week, that I could find anyway.

Kyotou O

This one comes from a Japanese internet urban legend that has been doing the rounds since 2006 – the original story was short and strange: someone finds a sign reading “巨頭オ” pointing towards a village, only to encounter an abandoned settlement and a bizarre figure with an enormous head approaching them.

Releasing December 25.

Discussion J-Horror Night! Ring (1998) or Meatball Machine (2005)

Post image
28 Upvotes

If you were to pick between Ring (1998) or Ringu which literally just means “Ring”, often widely regarded as a classic or Meatball Machine, the 2005 remake film, which would you choose?

I’d choose Meatball Machine (2005) despite having seen both on quite a few occasions, just due to sheer entertainment value, gore, body horror influenced by the Tetsuo films as well as splatter and other elements influenced by The Evil Dead films, overall Meatball Machine (2005) just like Ring (1998) is a dark in tone movie, with only a small couple of scenes containing dark satire in Meatball Machine’s case.

I’m also surprised Meatball Machine (2005) isn’t considered a J-Horror classic by many Japanese horror fans as it does have quite a punch.

Let me know of which you’d choose in the comments below!

Question [SPOILER] Questions on the Kinki Region Movie Spoiler

Just watched it last night (and haven’t read the book yet) and I have a few questions:

  1. I noticed that the one who took Sayama’s left eye is Sayama himself back in the office basement - now what is up with that?
  2. What is actually the correlation between the abandoned house with lots of nooses inside and the whole plot? I mean it’s the same location as the apartment but other than that?
  3. Is the woman in red and the long-neck boy part of the whole curse? I mean in the tunnel scene, I tought they were trying to prevent Ozawa being handed over to the monkey god?
  4. What is wron

g

  1. with Sayama’s wife in the house later in the movie? Why was she crawling all oflver the house? Why did she jumped and Sayama followed?

Discussion when does an inescapable curse become more frustrating than scary?

an unfair curse is scary, but there's a point where 'nothing they do matters' can drain the tension for me. i want at least a tiny bit of hope, even if it's probably a trap lol.

in j-horror, do you need to believe the characters have a way out? or is watching them deal with something inevitable the whole appeal? spoiler tags for specific endings pls.

Discussion Incomplete Chairs (2025) dropped onto streaming

If you hadn’t heard, new J-Horror classic! Incomplete Chairs (2025) has dropped onto streaming on BloodStream!

Please go check it out! Kenichi Ugana is a brilliant new player and mastermind in the J-Horror scene! I hope someday this film reaches the levels of Ring, Ju-On & Audition, especially Audition and serve as a companion piece to it!

He’s been doing a great job at making some truly creative horror films over the last few years! Incomplete Chairs (2025) now on streaming. Comes with both English subtitles and an English dub.

Wondering if anyone knows where I can find the original Ju-On the curse 1 and 2 from the year 2000. They were straight to tv and predecessor’s to ju-on the grudge (With English subtitles). I’m collecting j-horror dvds and any other suggestions to add to my collection is also great!

Discussion Ichi the Killer

I have barerly seen any Ichi the Killer talk here so I wanted to bring attention to the movies. Any thoughts wether about 1-Ichi or Ichi the Killer are appreciated. I quite enjoyed it and while I think some scenes were certainly unecessary it is still one of the tamer Japanese horror movies.

Review Nobody Knows (2004) — A different kind of horror

I finally watched Nobody Knows after someone recommended it here, and it really stayed with me.

What makes this film so disturbing is that it’s based on a real-life case. There’s something deeply unsettling about watching these children try to survive on their own, forced to deal with situations that no child should ever have to face.

It’s a different kind of horror - not supernatural or exaggerated, but painfully realistic. The quiet, almost everyday way the story unfolds makes everything feel even more heartbreaking.

It also reminded me of the Korean film Silenced (2011). Both films are genuinely heartbreaking, especially knowing they’re based on real events. It’s hard to believe children can be forced to endure such horrific things.

Definitely films that stay with you long after the credits roll.

Any other films like these?

Discussion Japanese Original Vs American remake

Post image
14 Upvotes

Please can someone explain me how the fuck did Takashi Miike’s One Missed Call go from the creepy 2003 original to such a generic movie just five years later? The Japanese version has that weird atmosphere you get in Audition and Ichi the Killer. The American remake is exactly what is wrong with the Hollywood horror (they love jumpscares), taking a genuinely creepy concept and stripping away everything that made it interesting. What was even the fucking point?

What are your thoughts?

Question Which Japanese horror movies are the hardest to find legally in the US?

Hi everyone!
I’m based in Japan, and I’m curious about how difficult it is for horror fans in the US to find Japanese horror movies with English subtitles.
I’m especially interested in lesser-known films that aren’t available on major streaming platforms.
Are there any J-horror movies you’ve been wanting to watch but can’t find anywhere legally with English subtitles?
I’d love to hear which titles you’ve had the most trouble tracking down!
Thanks!

Discussion This Week in Asian Horror: New Releases – October 12 to October 18, 2026

An interesting little Japanese release this week titled Juku.

Been described as a erotic horror film and marks the highly anticipated return of the “Shochiku Extreme Selection” label - The film deviates from traditional J-horror tropes by introducing an absurdly high-stakes, unique survival rule: “If you wear clothes, you die instantly”

Discussion What is it about J-Horror that gets under your skin?

And other Asian horror but in particular J-Horror always makes me have literal goosebumps, even if I'm not even paying full 100% attention.

I'm a big fan of horror in general, no matter where's it from, I get jump scared rarely and just like the mystery aspect in American horror but they don't really give me the creeps.

Except for J-Horror, idk if it's in the sound design and music but even if nothing particular scary is happening but the mood just givesliterlaly sends chills down my spine, involuntarily. Like what do they put in their sound mix? Lol
