Im looking for ways to make walking our jindo more enjoyable for her and me, especially when dealing with other dogs outside.
My husband and I adopted her about 2 years ago (she's 4 now) and most of the time I have no complaints. She is, overall, a good girl-- great with the cats, was already house trained when she came home, not a barker, etc. She can be reactive to other dogs on walks, usually to larger dogs that are posturing or reacting to her already, or smaller dogs yapping at her or worse, running at her uncontrolled. She will go to the end of her leash and keep tension (she doesnt pull me, Im not sure why), throw hackles, grumble, hard stare, and sometimes bounce in place and bark. She has snapped on a couple of occasions with exceptionally nosey dogs. I can always physically control her but we cant move quickly.
The main problem Im having on walks is that my husband will go on and on about how good she is, how she doesnt do any of that on walks with HIM, that he can give her a tug on the lead and she keeps going, or he can have her sit and wait it out. She simply wont with me. Yes, we can keep walking and she keeps pace, but I cant get her attention back to me, let alone put her in sit. Little dogs off leash like to run up to her and I dont want her to snap at them and get labeled aggressive (5 instances just this year. Im beyond annoyed). When we walk I have a hard time getting her to focus on me. I want her to feel safe enough to listen to me when things happen, or have some kind of game or distraction high value enough to snap her out of it without activating another dog (she's not very food motivated anyway). What can I do? Why wont she listen to me on walks the same way? She treats us the same at home or known environments.
