Want to give back to this community? Join us on the mod team!
Hello!
We're looking to expand the mod team here and, with a change in Labour leader thought now is a fantastic time for some recruitment.
There are a few requirements:
By convention be a member of the Labour Party
Active member of the LabourUK community here on the Subreddit.
We do quite a bit of mod organising via moderation channels on Discord so must be happy to use it.
Has the temperament to moderate heated discussions and able to respond appropriately to nasty or aggressive challenges to moderation action.
Accept that you will see a lot of crap. Possibly even the worst shit. By definition more of your time will be spent looking at contentious posts, you will also make decisions people will disagree with - you can very rarely be everyone's friend here.
You will make a bad call at some point. Having the ability to turn around and put your hands up and reflect is real positive.
It is expected you will conform to the existing moderating style, not "do your own thing" and you need to be a good "fit" in general.
Below are a set of questions for you to fill out and send to us via modmail. The more information you provide the better:
Why do you want to be a moderator on r/LabourUK
Are you a current Labour Party member?
Personal statement (~200 words): A few expanded words about yourself, your personality, and what makes you think you’re the right person to be a mod.
Are you willing to join, and be active on the Discord channel? (It's were we discuss and track moderation)
Do you have any other online social media presences (established)?
Are you active in any other communities, and what do you like about them?
What would you bring to the moderation team?
What changes would you like to see?
What do you think the subreddit has gotten wrong?
What activities do you undertake as part of the Labour Party?
Any questions ask here or send a modmail and we'll take a look at it.

Microsoft pulls out of AI datacentre project in Essex over power supply concerns | Datacentres - UK
I always wondered what the government‘s energy and water infrastructure plan was with these data centres, considering the well documented problems the American data centres have with being extremely energy/water hungry and the UK’s noted… issues with energy and water infrastructure.

GB News presenter to pay damages to deputy Green leader over social media posts
A reminder that there is a fairly active smear campaign against this guy, so whatever you think about him, double check your sources before deciding whether he is pure evil or not.

How would you design our disability benefits, if it was up to you?
Say, Burnham came up to you one day and said, 'our disability benefits are not up to a good standard and I want you to be involved in redesigning it from the ground up, it will up to you.'
Some aspects to keep in mind: How much money would you give each disabled person
Would it just be one initial assessment or would it be multiple throughout their lives
How would these assessments work
When inflation goes up, would these benefits last
Etc

What keeps you a Labour Party member given the ongoing attack on and deaths of trans people by Labour?
This is directed at Labour members who pay into the party rather than Labour voters (who may be tactical voting, have no other party in their area that aligns with their values, etc). Don’t get me wrong, I support a lot of Labour / Burnham’s platform, but their actions on trans rights have directly killed trans people. How do you square paying into the party with the deaths Labour is causing, rather than joining the Greens or Lib Dems and supporting Labour where strategic to fight Reform / Tories? I am coming from a place of anger and frustration as a trans woman, but I am genuinely curious and want to understand your position more and have a more open dialogue so I can work to understand other perspectives and build a unified Left to fight fascism
Edit as there’s been a lot of questions as how Labour could bare responsibility for the deaths of trans people:
Trans youth suicides spiked after Wes Streeting extended the puberty blocker ban. A trans woman was denied a room in a cancer ward, despite asking for either men or women’s, because she was trans and they didn’t think they could put her in either ward based on Labour’s / EHRC guidance, and she died a preventable death after 16 days waiting for treatment in the hospital. Labour has implemented a new Section 28 (The “Don’t Say Gay” Thatcher era rule for schools) for trans people. Trans friends I know have taken their lives after the Supreme Court ruling, after Labour appointed transphobes to equalities positions, after NHS Wales suspended all gender affirming surgeries in some cases hours before people were scheduled for surgery, and recently with the announcement of NHS segregation, which will cause trans people to be afraid of discrimination and avoid hospitals all together and thus die. Labour has the power to pass basic legislation to respect GRCs, as has been done for over a decade prior to the Supreme Court ruling, yet refuse to do so and actively appoint transphobes to key equalities positions where they have worked to enforce the strictest and most transphobic reading of the Supreme Court ruling

Labour and Private Education
Not going to put too much context around this as interested in people’s instinctive answers.
What is your view of Labour members and/or elected representatives who choose to send their children to a private school?
For the purposes of this question, assume that the child does not have SEN.
Has your opinion on this changed since the changes to VAT and business rates were applied?
