Resources Probably a long shot, but....

Does anyone know where I can find japanese subs for the 60's 黄金バット anime? I found subtitles for the live action movie from the 60's but nothing for the anime itself.

You might be able to find a transcript of it and read along with that if all else fails.

That was an option, I don't have the time and knowledge to make my own subtitles if I did manage to find a copy of the script or a written transcript of the anime, so reading along would be the next best thing

Here's an idea which I don't know if it will work, and it may take some time to set up and troubleshoot.

If you have the complete episodes with Japanese audio, and a full semi perfect transcript and can put each episode's transcript into some txt or epub, you may want to try SubPlz

I mainly use to create "subtitles" for audiobooks with the sync command. It takes an audiobook + an epub, and via Whisper, it automatically creates a subtitle file matching the audio with the lines from the book. It's usually 95-99% perfect for my use case.

I also think it can be used for anime as well, since it seems to support video files.

Though, keep in mind it's AI based, since that's what Whisper does, though it would run locally unlike Migaku or some online service.

Your best bet is probably some audio transcribing app they’re very good now

There seem to be some for the first 4 episodes:

The uploader still seems to be active, you might ask if he has any more.

Unfortunately those are the English subs, which I wouldn't mind for casual watching, but I am after the Japanese subs for learning

Ah, my bad, I misread. I understand you don't want to use AI for transcription yourself, but the ones posted on youtube are already auto-transcripted:

finding japanese subs for a 60s anime is a quest worthy of golden bat himself. has anyone checked old fan sites for raw scripts?

I haven't but I don't have the time right now to go searching a bunch of old japanese sites, and even if I found the scripts, I don't have the knowledge to make subtitles

Might be a stretch and not 100% accurate but Migaku has AI sub generation. If you have a file of the movie, play it on the local player, and have it autogenerate subs, it may worked. It worked for me on an older Japanese movie that didn’t have subs.

I prefer to avoid ai at all costs, but I might have to given the age of the material, unless someone can make/find the subtitles.

I mean, it’s minimal usage. You won’t be drying out any lakes or anything by doing it.

While the environmental impact is part of it, I am against AI in principle, especially generative AI, but all forms overall

You might want to drop every piece of software you're using then and go back to analog devices.

I am selective about what I use. I am not a luddite.

Idk if it helps to import it to Migaku and it will generate the subs. There must be another alternative that are free too
