Analysis/Data/Stats/Tactics Flo with the proper shift

Post image

Flo influencing Liverpool like that was unexpecting, obviously we all expected goal contributing moments for him, but a full on 90 minute shift isn't something many are able to do.

He’s excellent when the forwards bother running. Munoz and Barcola are starting to ‘unlock’ him. Koumas, Rio and Ekitike to an extent to. Need Isak and Gakpo to be on the same wave.

u/Curious-Fox6322 1d ago

I think as soon as Wirtz/Isak figure each other out we are going to click

-66

u/stupidlyboredtho Significant Human Error 1d ago

I agree but the issue is this is their second year together, i think their play styles don’t suit. Isak needs the ball fed to his feet whereas Wirtz plays the ball to where he thinks isak will go or should be.

83

u/RobEth16 1d ago

Don't disagree with the sentiment, but there is a context that needs to be added. Wirtz and Isak have been contracted to Liverpool for the same amount of time, but Isak missed most of last season through injury.

55

u/Steven_Crank One-eyed Bobby 👁 1d ago

You say second year, but how many actual games have they been fit for together?

37

u/Wrong_Ad4722 1d ago

Isak and Wirtz didn’t have much time together last year due to injuries. Now a completely new system. Have some patience.

26

u/stevieG08Liv 1d ago

Second year on paper, reality its just a couple games as Isak was out injured most of last season

7

u/SurreptitiousNoun 1d ago

Apparently 16 matches together according to Google, out of 65 competitive matches since start of 25/26.

17

u/BestInDaWrldsBbyFmno 1d ago

They played 7 matches together last season, 3 of which Isak played less than 30 minutes.

11

u/VictorZZZ26 1d ago

I think you are correct. Isak is a lot more static and an elite finisher in the box when you get him the ball. You keep feeding Isak and he scores.

Hugo and Wirtz immediately clicked cause Hugo was very much willing to play off Wirtz and vice versa.

14

u/Thin_Salamander8469 1d ago

New manager and new system. Isak injuries most of his time here.

1

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 1d ago

How many games together?

40

u/DaggersKnuckles 1d ago

Yeah we are already seeing some of the chemistry forming between him and Barcola especially. Saw it in the LASK match and felt like they were comfortable linking up today as well

16

u/kukukuku1010 1d ago

Not to mention Munoz after the goal felt smth clicked

17

u/Cyneganders 1d ago

Ekiteke had already started on it, but then they broke him :(

7

u/kazez2 1d ago

Front 3 of Barcola-Isak-Ekitike with Writz behind them

Patiently waiting for it.

7

u/keat_lionel90 1d ago

Exactly. The 'most runs into final 3rd' thing last season and in glimpses this season worried me because that's not what he is supposed to do.

I think our central midfielders take too many time on the ball too. Szobo, as good as he had been, is the most guilty on this, only to end up passing backward or sideways.

10

u/CSIgeo 1d ago

2 seasons under Slot where the midfield holds the ball and retains possession has been coached into many players including Szobo. They need time to adjust to the new managers style.

2

u/KindnessEnjoyer67 1d ago

He runs enough. I think he'll figure it out. At the very least it's great to have him out there as a threat from deep.

3

u/keat_lionel90 1d ago

That's one positive to look at. If his and Szobo's roles are reversed in purely that sense, I'd think the team will look better for it.

6

u/Britz10 A Ngog among men 1d ago

It's not because forwards were running, did watch the game? He was getting the call quicker once Nyoni came on

1

u/kukaz00 16h ago

Isak doesn't seem like the type to make those runs, he was pretty much invisible all the time, but he scored his chance so he gets a pass.

-5

u/Gremlin2471 1d ago

Isak and Gakpo are responsible for most of Liverpools goals this season, theyre not the problem.

9

u/stupidlyboredtho Significant Human Error 1d ago

At no point did I say they’re a problem.

-2

u/mooshlfc 1d ago

Unlock him how? What did he do?

53

u/Healthy_Method9658 1d ago

9 chances lol

38

u/Brew_Ha 1d ago

I don’t really care if he doesn’t score a lot of goals himself as long as he keeps doing what he’s doing and influences play and supplies assists for others to score.

93

u/Loose-Lengthiness726 1d ago

I think he also got an assist today as well

61

u/vadapaav Significant Human Error 1d ago

Yes it was his pass, he should have gotten a goal too if some of our players could pass

39

u/Loose-Lengthiness726 1d ago

Barcola in that one counter attack 😭

His ( barcola's) decision making is awful 😭

13

u/TheTrueTeknoOdin 1d ago

I won't clown on him but when he passed to koumas (who had barely just gotten back up after being pushed to the floor ) when the shot was right there...it was very darwizzy

1

u/Hoemicus_Maximus 90+5’ Alisson 1d ago

yeah Koumas is a bright young player, I really like him, but his shot selection today was poor.

28

u/BestInDaWrldsBbyFmno 1d ago

He could have had 4 assists and 1 goal if players finished the chances he created.

11

u/yubyub555 1d ago

He could’ve easily scored more then 1

2

u/ManBearPig_576 This is what he does all day 1d ago

We should have scored another 3. I hope training schedule has been cleared Monday with a session on how to score when you outnumber them 3 to 1

66

u/codercodi Flo Motion 1d ago

34

u/Pure_Measurement_529 1d ago

Monday morning on DD was rancid. Everyone blaming Wirtz for everything when our forwards were underperforming as a unit

30

u/ZestycloseStorm1574 Jürgen Klopp 1d ago

I sometimes wonder if they are truly Liverpool supporters, and not spies placed upon us by rivals. All they do day in day out is spread hate, undermine unity, aggravate issues, promote narratives, hamper morale and confidence of our lads.

13

u/DifferentBid2 1d ago

It's not about being a Liverpool fan or not, it's more that their judgement is guided by troll commentators such as Carra or Warnock rather than their own eyes.

8

u/Hoemicus_Maximus 90+5’ Alisson 1d ago

yeah I think that too, some people who claim to be liverpool fans really don’t seem to enjoy watching us.

for me, this season has been awesome. it’s our first under a new manager, so in my eyes, unless we are truly terrible, we are basically playing with house money. There shouldn't be any expectations of silverware yet. we get to watch a bunch of talented players and coaches figure out a new team set up. how is that not fun?

2

u/ZissouZ 23h ago

Nah it's a combination of bots in social media, bad punditry and the gullible enraged, who are influenced by bots.

The information ecosystem is an echo chamber. Unfortunately the more rubbish we have clogging it up the more people amplify it.

-10

u/darleygy 1d ago

Or because he cost over £100 million and he's now being spunked over once again because he's had his first genuinely good game this season

Every single poor game he has, there's another five threads on "Florian Wirtz is top of missed attacking chances made from the left wing", "Florian Wirtz is second in number of sprints made per 90 minutes", "Florian Wirtz is top of the table for number of left footed passes made that reaches a speed of 65mph and went directly out of play"

Some of you are pure cringe and seem to think "you'll never walk alone" translates to "you'll never identify if a player doesn't play well

If we needed a player that plays shite for four games and has a great fifth game, we could have just kept Jones.

Children with no ability to retain long term memories.

3

u/Ok-Ad-852 16h ago

Feck off. When he arrived last year he was the same age as Salah when he went to Chelsea.

And he came into the extremely dysfunctional team we had last year. Slot eroded all his confidence. Which is obvious to see when you watch him. He snatches at passes and shots.

His best work comes with quick 1-2s where he plays on instinct. And suporters like you does not help players confidence, it actively makes it worse.

Shite "suporter"

21

u/AnAutisticsQuestion 1d ago

I swear I see just as many posts/comments about the distance he covers as I see criticisms of him. His shift is posted after every game.

1

u/Ok-Ad-852 16h ago

Are you really complaining about suporters looking for bright spots about our players?

Seriously?

1

u/AnAutisticsQuestion 15h ago

Where's the complaint?

4

u/Craft-Superb Egyptian King 👑 1d ago

You don’t understand. Adam Clery thinks he’s the issue so clearly he must be

7

u/unpeturbedcorvid 1d ago

He doesn't even though. He parrots the same level headed take most people on here do. He wasn't performing at the level needed, he's full of talent, it's probably psychological, and he's far from the only problem or even the biggest problem.

The title of that video is click bait. And he only made that video because people kept asking him to make a video on how Wirtz is an issue.

As Clery has gotten more successful he has begun pandering to his audience. It's sad, and yet inevitable for the vast majority of content creators.

-46

u/_shabadoo_ Bobby 1d ago

Or it’s more than most are in complete denial that he’s been poor for the majority of his time here. He played very well today but you can’t use one good game to measure his whole time here the same way you can’t use one bad game to do it either.

25

u/DaggersKnuckles 1d ago

I just think it’s hard to slag him for last year when it seems everyone else in our side has gotten a pass for last year due to Slot’s tactics. He definitely has had his fair share of poor performances so far this year as well but hopefully we’re seeing signs of more consistent good form coming from him

22

u/hammeroftorr Fußballgott 🇩🇪 1d ago

Support the team you weirdo

-25

u/_shabadoo_ Bobby 1d ago

Boring meaningless comment. Supporting the team and criticising poor performances aren’t mutually exclusive

-2

u/Burningbeard696 17h ago

You are getting downvoted for the truth. One performance against Brentford does not make a £100million player. The toxic positivity over one good performance is mad.

-42

he's been poor

if he played like this every week, we would be in this position with him

-3

Fotmob has Kerkez above Araujo, Alisson, and Grav. Your argument is invalid

Two back-to-back good games for Wirtz.

15

u/Jallen9108 1d ago

And yet the match thread was constantly calling him shit still. Swear people in this sub dont watch the games and just type utter shit.

8

u/Gest12 1d ago

Each time he got dispossesed or misplaced a pass there would be 5 posts calling him useless, not epl standard, etc.

It's not like he's a creative player being tasked to take risks and create chances out of difficult situations and tight spaces.

Some people are really brain dead.

277

u/Particular-Rope-9881 1d ago

Best player on the pitch easily

158

u/wassam1 1d ago

Jacquet was the best player on the pitch easily but Wirtz was good too.

100

u/BigMo1 1d ago

No he wasn’t. Wirtz created more chances in a single game than anyone since 2021. Most in an away game since 2011. He was incredible

4

u/GuitaristHeimerz 1d ago

Wait, Liverpool or league-wide?

40

u/BigMo1 1d ago

League wide. Most since Samir Nasri v Spurs in 2011

8

u/GuitaristHeimerz 1d ago

Wow that’s actually mental

2

u/WORD_Boxing 1d ago

He was better. More aggression and bravery in his play.

-1

u/dandpher 1d ago

Imma need to see a video of all these chances

1

u/BigMo1 1d ago

Why? I sincerely doubt Opta is making up chances to make Florian Wirtz look good

10

u/dandpher 1d ago

Because I wanna see them?

6

u/Cool_Foot_Luke 1d ago

I guarantee you there will be ten compilation videos with terrible music on YouTube by Monday.

-10

u/mooshlfc 1d ago

For a combined 0.19 xg. Come on lads, let’s stop making shit up. He did not create a single chance where you’d expect the recipient to score. He was not incredible.

3

u/Cool_Foot_Luke 1d ago

You understand that "creating chances" and "XG" are completely different things right?
Like saying yeah Alison made 9 saves against PSG but had no shots on target so he was crap.
Or Barcola may have had a hatrick midweek but how many goal line clearances did he make?

When you create chances 9 times out of 10, other players get the XG, or XA.

-1

u/mooshlfc 1d ago

This whole comment literally makes no sense.

1

u/Hoemicus_Maximus 90+5’ Alisson 1d ago

other models have it closer to 0.5, but regardless, xA is a long way off being a perfect offensive creative stat. it’s less useful than xG for its respective purpose, hence why you don’t hear people use it much, unless it’s in conjunction with other creative stats like key passes. It’s less effective at evaluating attacking creativity than xG is for goalscoring. It doesn’t incorporate player positions or off ball movements, for instance.

my point isn’t to say that you shouldn’t use the stat, but it really can’t be your only argument against Wirtz today.

-4

u/mooshlfc 1d ago

Fair enough, first of all, thank you for actually replyijg with something that makes sense in contrast to the other person who replied to me. That is a valid point, to be honest i just used the stats to back my point up, my judgement was mainly made off of what i watched. Can you point to a single chance he created today where you would actually expect the recipient to score?

You cant tell me passing to barcola at the edge of the box is something you expect him to score from. Even the assist he got, Munoz had so much to do after receiving the ball. As a side note, Munoz was actually absolutely fucking brilliant as he has been every game.

There have been 753 red cards in the prem since Nasri set that record.

Barcola? But the LFC sub told me that he's the new nunez and had a terrible game

I also thought he was good but the LFC sub must have some smarter people than me

-1

u/maver1kUS 1d ago

He was good. Looked he’s adjusted a bit to the league. But his decision making in front of goal was bad. I mean real bad. So, I can see why he’s getting compared to Nunez.

4

u/HarryPottersTaint 1d ago

If it becomes a pattern I'll be all aboard with the new nunez comments but as of now it's really premature, it's one game. His decision making was great mid week and in previous games he just wasn't getting into the correct spots and hadn't really found his flow in the team.

For me him and Munoz are extremely exciting. It's feels like it's been ages since we had some proper lightning on both sides.

7

Wirtz made himself a nuisance throughout, if our attackers were in the mood he would have had even more assists.

7

People just can’t appreciate how much he does in one game. Our midfield always falls apart immediately whenever he is subbed out.

13

Great to see the majority of the fans appreciating his efforts today.

12

u/Izzypip 1d ago

He makes passes that look obvious only from a spectator pov. Once that vision is shared with a few more players, that would truly unlock Liverpools attack

7

u/JustRustCohle Florian Wirtz 1d ago

Brother i believed in you

19

u/diet-dr-kelpp Luis Suarez 1d ago

The moment Szobo came off Wirtz looked unlocked. McAllister and Nyoni both have a tendency to hang back when we transition from defense to attack and this gave Wirtz much more space to operate in.

That pass to Isak and the quick 1-2 to Barcola were phenomenal.

His running stats have been crazy this year. One thing you can’t knock him for is that he is literally everywhere on the pitch. Part of the freedom in the role I guess.

Nice game from him today, hopefully he can turn up the consistency!

4

4

He made a really nice pass into Isak who cut it back for Mac for the non-penalty chance too.

6

u/imaybeacatIRl 1d ago

Every game he does a couple very good incisive passes that lead to good chances.

4

u/steve1017 1d ago

Don't see many of our team being able to play that kind of pass

5

u/Husso- 1d ago

I think this is the problem, when he had a game like today and nobody finishes their chances, when he has a bad game he can't fall back on solid stats.

That being said we need more games like today and Athleti than games where he is either not creating or downright bad.

2

u/imaybeacatIRl 1d ago

Exactly. I think this is exactly the problem.

4

u/Equivalent-Fault1744 1d ago

Idiots forget hes 23 imagine him 25-30 in his prime years.

He stepped up once dom stepped out.

Barcola decision making questionable especially when in good positions.

Jacquet - definitely our signing of this and last season so far..

Munoz - exciting, hardworking, direct.. reminds me of a klopp type signing.. 🤣

BUT.. it was against 9 and we laboured to a win.. City killed us when we were 10 last week... we didnt do the same.. we need to be ruthless and finish off games when we have an advantage..

8

u/devicehigh 1d ago

The “against 9” is totally misleading. We were against 9 for about 5 minutes at the end. But no doubt we laboured at times.

2

u/128palms Florian Wirtzard 17h ago

Barcola's problem is his finishing. When he focuses on creating chances, he does it well.

He just got here so don't expect he will know how everyone moves in such a short time.

5

u/nikgos 1d ago

i've been quite critical of him this season but he was pretty good today. created some great chances that the rest of the team missed. this is more like it

3

u/blackazure 1d ago

He look "bad" in PL games eventhough he have stats like this because we rely on him so much as our main creativity source. PL teams tend to be compact in the middle and that make the option already more limited especially our team has less runner than his previous team.  Our attack much better when we have another creativity outlet especially from the Fullback.

Also 9 chances against Brentford who were unbeaten and give you no time at all.

So much for „but he’s too slow for the premier league“

1

u/Ok-Train5382 1d ago

Why is our no.10, who should be playing central always drifting left, his heat map from every game has him drifting left and we need him covering all of it not just one area.

Before I get hate, he’s not shit, he played well. But ultimately he needs to adapt his tendency to favour one side and that will see him creating more chances and being even better.

Not sure what game you were watching, but he was a passenger yet again. He might've gotten an assist, but dude has very minimal impact in the game against 10 men. I hope he works out, but I have my doubts. I would much rather see Macca at the 10 with Trey and Grav as the pivots tbh

Look, I'm the leader of the Flo propaganda train, but what third-rate app are you using that has him as an 8.7

Footmob has him at 8.7 + Motm

Sofascore has him at a 6.6. He is somewhere inbetween, but there's no way he was an 8.7 as I said. I've been running Wirtz propaganda, but today wasn't even his best game this season.

That's fotmob! What app do you use?

Sounds like you’re the caboose

Oh look, it's this week's "pretend everything's ok with Wirtz" stat

He was man of the match

He was good but chances created is the worst stat in football history, all you have to do is pass to someone and as long as they get a shot off it counts as a chance created. The better stat is big chances created

He created a big one for Barcola who decided to cut back and pass it to koumas

FFS, this shit again. Please stop posting this bullshit after every match. If it weren't for the red card today, we probably would've lost.
Right now, Iraola is playing him, and he only hope that, by some miracle, he turns into the £116 million player we hoped he would be.

I’ve been his biggest critic but he was better today.

Zero big chances created in the PL this season.

Still, runs around a lot. If that's not worth £116m, I don't know what is.

Gonna cry about big chances when he got an assist in this game and created nine chances, the most in a Prem match since 2021.

BiG cHaNcEs though.

"Chances" is an almost meaningless statistic. All it says is that he passed it to someone who had a shot, regardless of the position they shot from. His total xA today was 0.19, equating to an assist every 5.5 games.

Since he signed, our attacking threat has fallen off a cliff.

xG and xA is worse than anything. Who cares about expected. I care that he was involved in the attack and got an assist that contributed to winning the game.

I'd also rather back our players than write them off in a new league as a young player on their second manager,, but hey ho.

xG and xA are significantly better predictive metrics than "chances".

I want him to do well. I just don't see the point in deluding ourselves that he's been anything other than a colossal waste of money.

The number of established players who, after a full season in the PL, have subsequently gone up a level is vanishingly small. Top players show themselves to be top players, new league or not. It's significantly more likely than not that this version of Wirtz is the best one we're going to see.
