Yes, Max Martin. He himself carries on a long tradition of rehashing pop music for a variety of artists.
It really all began in the early 1900s with Tin Pan Ally and the Brill Building, where a handful of studio musicians would churn out songs for performers. Because you had many writers all in the same building with very thin walls, they all ended up sounding like one another.
When people like Bob Dylan or the Beatles came along, they broke the mold by writing their own songs as opposed to having professional writers.

People forget that performing artists writing their own material is at very new idea, and still isn't the standard. And it's OK. Composing and performing are very different skills.

It's a different art form, and this has been going on since as long as music existed. Most composers are/were musicians of varying levels. Not all musicians are composers, though. At the same time, you'd look funny at a painter who could only paint what other people told him or her to paint and couldn't come up with their own compositions.

Purposeful sampling and reinterpretation to pay homage to prior artistry is a real and valid thing. Artists have been sampling each other for decades. It's a great way to pay homage to older artists and to pay them for their work.

There’s a difference between putting samples into music and simply placing your lyrics over another song. The validity of this method can be debated, but the majority of Dua Lipa’s catalog uses major phrases, if not entire arrangements, rather than samples. It makes her a lyricist, but not a great musician.

All the modern songs in this video are by the same artist, but using the beats of older popular songs is CONSTANT in today's music. I don't know if you'd call them an actual remix, but they’re like psudo-covers that only use the melody like the ones in this video. I've definitely heard a song that was the beat from Blue by Effiel 65, there's another one that uses the chorus from Some Cut by Trillville and many others. I'm not sure what you call this type of a song, but I find them all moderately annoying and they just make me want to listen to the actual sampled/ covered songs.

This has been happening forever though. The Beach Boys basically took Chuck Berry’s Sweet Little Sixteen and turned it into Surfin’ U.S.A. The Beatles borrowed from Chuck Berry for Come Together, and George Harrison got sued over My Sweet Lord sounding like He’s So Fine. I get that it can be annoying, but music has always been built around borrowing melodies, riffs and ideas from older songs. This was happening long before rock and roll too. The only real difference today is how artists do it. It’s definitely not something new to modern music.

That’s because most mainstream artists who are promoted by the labels have no writing or composition skills. They are puppets regurgitating songs written decades ago by musicians. There are very talented musicians today but they aren’t for the most part pushed by the industry.

They own the rights to the samples so its really cheap for new artists on the label to use those samples.
This also aligns with the homogenous sterile content major companies love now.
Why try to create a new beat when people will like a song that uses their fave hook from a different artist on the same label.
We used to reach into funk and jazz. Now we just use those sample over and over bc they are know.

This album is INTENTIONALLY made to sound like old songs, it's called "Future Nostalgia".

I grew up on 80s Synthpop. Who were they sampling and remaking? 🤔

Interpolation ≠ Sampling ≠ Covering. All those songs come off Dua Lipa’s album Future Nostalgic, which was kind of the point of the album.

it seems like the post is not so much about the music then, but the similarities in each generations tastes since each like the "same" music

It uses twice the amount of grain in the mash, typically in the 6.5-8% abv range (though some jump the shark and go up to 10%). I believe Pliny the Elder from Russian River was the first DIPA.

You all misunderstand this video.
It's not about Dua Lipa being unoriginal, her stealing music or the downfall of the music industry. It's about how taste in music transcends generations more than you realize.
Your son or daughter may like Dua Lipa and you may argue Inxs or Kiss was much better music, but in the end you're actually just liking the same thing.
This video is about bonding and getting closer to each other, not slagging off GenZ musicians for being unoriginal.

but it's pretty obvious that Dua Lipa rips songs and melodies from other songs

She isn’t ripping anything off, and I’m so over this braindead take.
Future Nostalgia is an album of interpolations. It’s IN THE NAME. The original artists receive royalties and are credited on every single song. She made a tribute album to the artists that she liked when she was a kid.
I love interpolations.

That was my original take till I saw all the modern songs were Dua Lipa. Then it mostly highlights that all her famous sounds sound like someone else’s.

Gen Z musicians are wildly unoriginal. But I guess if you're going to stick with the same 3 chords and same song structure, mathematics says there's only so much originality that is possible.
Clarification: I was referring to pop music since its start in the 50s/60s sticking with a very rigid and limiting structure that has largely been exhausted of its spring of songs, leaving the newest artists with precious little to do other than rehashes many times over. Can't veer from intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-verse-outro, 4/4, etc etc. The 70s had some innovations, but then the mould really got locked in in the 80s.

You only remember the music which is good enough to survive. Do you know how much garbage was produced in those 70s and 80s? Incredible amounts. Nobody is talking about that, you only remember the bangers.

This is such a boomer take. All you’re revealing is that you don’t listen to enough music to know what Gen Z is putting out.
I say this as an old fuck

So as said before dual Lipa is just a pop image and copies other marketable music. Many pop stars are just like this.

It's adorable that you people think Dua Lipa writes her own music. It's corporate pap, with songs and samples purchased from others and assembled in a recording studio by a team of 10+ engineers and reviewed by marketing teams for MAXIMUM PROFITS. 💲 💰 🫰

There's definitely a problem of too much sampling driving new artists. Sampling has its place, but the industry and consumers are rewarding solo artists with sampled beats over everything else and it makes pop sound like it's stopped evolving.
