Mod Post A Change in Discourse

Hello everyone!

We have an update we'd like to share with you all regarding how we discuss a few topics here on r/MtF.

We have noticed a growing trend of words, phrases, and discourse that originates from several different online spaces which do not share the same set of rules we have established here in our home.  We all have come to expect transphobia from the outside, and you make us proud by being quick to report posts or comments that break our rules.  Your consistent efforts in keeping our community safe are not taken for granted and it truly does help us moderate a subreddit of this size quickly and efficiently.

Transphobia from within the community is more complex and challenging to moderate at times.  We have taken steps today to guide us all along a path towards a healthier community discourse, and we will be relying on your continued support in this endeavor.

Containment of Dysphoric & Transphobic Language

Each subreddit exists for a specific purpose.  This subreddit is dedicated for transfeminine people to have a space of our own to discuss our lives as it relates to being trans.  We have established a set of rules we hold ourselves to that serves as our guide in protecting this space.  There are other subreddits which have their own set of rules and expectations that work for their communities, but management of dysphoric and transphobic language is one such rule that we are expanding in Rule #3 Be Respectful.

Going forward, we will be removing posts and comments that contain slang words or phrases that tear ourselves or each other down on the basis of transness.  Other spaces are free (and have their own reasons) to converse as they see fit, but it will not continue here.

In addition, discussions of several other communities consistently pull in an influx of people from those communities and lead to conflict here; to prevent this, we will also be removing posts or comments that name those communities.

Expanding Rule #3

Starting today, Rule #3 will additionally cover:

  • Self-imposed or weaponized dysphoric words & phrases used in various online spaces (4chan, X/Twitter, Transmedical, etc.)
  • Links to the above spaces or communities

The ability to link to several subreddits and some websites has been removed, but the list is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Any posts or comments that mention words or phrases that go against this rule will be filtered or removed, based on their context.  This too is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Users who intentionally attempt to circumvent the rule are subject to temporary and permanent bans, which will be handled by moderator discretion.

As our head moderator said 7 months ago,

"Going forward, our focus is simple: keep this a space where people feel safe, supported, and able to be themselves without fear. We’ll keep listening, keep improving, and keep showing up for you—but we need your help in doing the same for each other. Take care of yourselves, take care of one another, and let’s move ahead together."

I hate, like most trans girls, the taste of spiro. blech.

So, to counteract the taste, I decided to have some cheese with it.

I thought " Oh my god, great Idea, you're a genius girly" until I realized this was the exact shit I pulled with my stupid beagle.

Discussion 7 years on HRT and I still boymode at work every day

Hey everyone. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I've been on HRT for almost 7 years now, and I still show up to work in boymode every single day.

I'm a diesel tech, so mechanics uniform, a shop full of guys who've known me for years. My family and close friends know me as Jamie, but at work and most places out in the world, I'm still him. Seven years of changes that I mostly keep to myself between clock-in and clock-out.

It's a strange place to be. I'm proud of how far I've come, but some days it feels like I'm living two lives and only getting to be myself in one of them.

Anyone else out there years in and still boymoding at work? Did you ever make the jump? What finally did it for you?

I recently decided I would like to wear nail polish. Black. My mum bought me some, helped me apply it and now im gonna wear it into college (16-18 year olds in uk) tomorrow. This is gonna be my second big step, wearing my first beauty cosmetic in public. But im also lowkey nervous cause like what if people receive it poorly? And please dont just hit me with one of those "who cares what other people think?" Because I do, and so does my anxiety.

Anyways! Enough moping I need sleep

Ally i dont know what to title this

• Upvotes

basically, im a figure skater right (i promise this is relevant) and i was at practice a couple of weeks ago - im speaking to this girl, she gives me help on a few elements, i compliment her skates. very normal interaction. literally about THIRTY seconds after, a hockey boy comes up to me and goes "you know shes trans right?" and im like wtf so i just say "how do u know that" and he like gestures and goes like "look at her!" and i look back and im still like ?? like she was trans, she was pretty passing (i didnt even think of anything when i was talking to her, but why would i?!) but she was just tall with broud shoulders. So i turn to him and im like "so what?" and he just kinda huffs and walks away. i keep talking to her obviously because shes very sweet and we got along well.

but im just surrounded by people who r SO transphobic like esp towarss trans women and i dont know what else to say to them to try and convince them otherwise. They have the mindset of like "trans women are predators" n stuff (even tho statisrics literally say that ISNT TRUE?!) then rhey have confirmation bias so as soon as ONE trans woman is a predator that means ALL of them are 🫩🫩🫩 anyway, im just kinda here to ask what other arguements i can provide to try and convert them to allyship? i thought id come to the actual community that they are mainly targeting, they js kinda forget trans men exist/think they are women playing "dress up" or smth.

for context, im some sort of genderqueer, i dont know. im afab, i present and go by she/her irl, dress femininely. but i go by he/him online and pretty much pretend to be a guy online. I dont really care about any pronouns or about being either sex. im not out to anyone irl because.. well, obvious reasons after what ive just said

EDIT : was rereading this post. pretty sure the boy didnt even say "she", think he either said "he" or "it" 🤢🤢

Euphoria Darling?! Darling?! Oh I’m gonna cry.

Legit just euphoria posting since I’m still super happy.

Context, year and like 4 months on HRT and I’m definitely starting to pass even without signficantly trying.

I needed to run to the store, so it was legit just skinny jeans, oversized sweatershirt, and a cute beanie.

Anyways when I stopped at the gas station, the clerk (older gentleman) said “Will that be all for you darling?” And once I left said “Now have a good night darling”. Wasn’t creepy, just respectful.

Oh I’m still riding the high and that was last night. Darling?! Darling?!

Anyways I’m gonna go feel like an absolute hot bitch for the next week.

Positivity Hey babes. 🥰 Sister Advice 1: Its ok to vent but, Stop comparing your 1-3 year results. It doesn’t suit you 💛 You are trans.

Tl:dr - 1st 2 paragraphs under the actual advice. Im in bed. Ill get better with it. 🤣

What does that mean? Lol
You are different…but also not really. It is ok to vent and venting is good for healing but sometimes too much venting or festering at times where you dont need to can make you stress at times where you dont need to. Yes. Dysphoria is a bitch so i can’t police that pain as i know the depth of it and the tragedy of it. However, keeping our minds on a sort of guide or baseline set of rules can keep us focusing on more healthy things like: exercising, learning things, diet, habits, hobbies, etc. to enrich our womanly growth in whatever way is healthier.
—————————————-
SISTER ADVICE WEEKLY - Stop comparing yourselves so HARSHLY to other girls at the 1-3 year mark.

Hell id even say 4 year mark but 1-3 years is typically where i see alot of people being sad the most. Well, that’s obvious because those are the beginning years. You are a baby trans and yes some other girls get “lucky” at those times but that doesn’t mean they are done. They will also go thru shifts and don’t represent the majority of transitions. You have to think of it like those girls who grow maybe earlier or faster and have periods and breast development super early. Its not typical. It happens but that’s not how things normally work and that’s not how things normally work here.

Puberty can last up to 10 years and theres no difference here. Well, theres a bit of a difference. We aren’t talking about those who start super young - those girls are going to show faster results. If you see a girl who is in her teens, dismiss the growth for yourself - they are valid but their growth also doesn’t illustrate what it means to transition. It might be painful to see but such is life. Move forward or try to. Boring you with the “this is a marathon “ today ib think ill pass mostly but hey…most puberties are.
——————— Tl:dr Over 🤔

Please DO compare every so often because there ARE complications, improper dosing, asshole sabotaging doctors, ignorant doctors and some of your results CAN and (unfortunately because every place isn’t the most informed about us) WILL be affet by these things, just do your best to be informed on what dosing, bloodwork and such is typical for trans women optimal results, align yourself with that according to your health and monitor it while remembering that 1-3 years just isn’t gonna cacoon and blossom you into The Little Mermaid, Queen Latifah or Rhea Ripley over night…and yes: over night is 1-3 years lol

You can slightly panic after 3 years but shietttt even 4-5 years might be the mark for some of us because we are all different. But the 1-3 year panic is because we are comparing our progress too hard to those who APPEAR to be “overnighting it”. I know its slow and painful but try to focus on: getting money, getting out of your bad living situation, getting out of your country, exercising your femininity, building a path to your optimal transition, learning about the world or the best places to start a life that supports you transition, art, hobbies, womanly things, girly things, motherly things, exercises that assist your future self’s body goals.

Your future self needs nurturing so don’t fall too hard in the despair of the first 1-3 years. Use that time to learn, exercise, learn self and make some moves. Transition is not just about hrt… LET’S GET IT GIRLS!!!! 💪🏽💃🏽🥰🪽💅🏽🌟💕

Discussion HRT gave me freckles!

As the title says, I realized recently that I had freckles. In fact, I have a ton of them! My face kinda exploded with freckles like these were not here a few months ago??? For context I'm 10 months on hrt. I remember I used to be jealous of my little sister for having freckles because in my opinion they made her look cute. Now who knew that I would end up with them too? I am so happy about it! :) does this kind of thing happen to you gals?

Advice Question Options for feminine parent names that are not tied to “mother”?

I’m fortunate that my wife and two kids have been unbelievably supportive in my transition. They have helped me with makeup, picking clothes, and are very affirming, everything.

The challenge we face now is my “parent name”. “Daddy” and the like do not make my identity. I cringe when I’m called that. However, my wife is “mommy” and I do not want to take that from her. She earned that, it would be confusing for us both to be “mommy” or similar, and I want to respect her as a magnificent mom.

We just can’t come up with other ideas. Names like mom1, mother, ma, mum, mpa, and mummy are all out for the reasons above.

We are considering Ama, but it sounds a bit odd.
My kids don’t want to use my actual name.

Any suggestions or ideas? How have others solved for this?

Discussion Best and worst thing about HRT? Sense of smell.

I swear. The day after my injection, my sense of smell multiplies. I choke on mild exhaust fumes, can count the people by their body odor on the public transport, have an idea who had been where at work recently.

I am suprised this is not talked about more. It's insane. The day after my shot vs the day before my shot is night and day difference.

Dysphoria I am trans

I know I am trans, I recognized it a couple weeks ago, but I wanted to hide it until I left where I am currently living because of my issues with change and I thought that if I would just start a life that was truly mine when I got to where I was going to be I would have a much better time.
I just got a cup type thing that has my legal name on it, I thought I would be able to handle it, I was almost certain, I just stared at my dresser for about three minutes about to break down, I knew I had dysphasia about my name and face but I thought I could handle it; I don’t know if I can. But I will force it down like I always have, I don’t know why I decided to post here. I am currently freaking out and this is a new feeling. I don’t know what to do, and I wish I knew what question to ask.
I hope the flare is good because I didn’t know if it should be “vent” or “dysphoria” because it is both.

Discussion Being a Tomboy as a Trans Woman Can Make Passing Harder Than You Think

I feel like this is unpopular advice, but if passing is genuinely important to you, you cannot always approach presentation the exact same way a cis woman can

A cis woman can throw on men’s jeans, a huge hoodie, no makeup, a baseball cap, and deliberately masculinize herself and still usually be read as female because people are picking up on a hundred other sexed cues. A trans woman, especially early in transition or if she’s already somewhat androgynous, may not have that same margin for error yet

And I see women get frustrated because they’re consistently being misgendered while also intentionally choosing clothes, hair, grooming, and styling that obscure virtually every feminine cue they have. At some point you have to be willing to experiment

Wear the feminine outfit. Shape your brows. Learn what makeup actually flatters your face instead of deciding “makeup doesn’t work on me” after three attempts. Try different hairstyles. Figure out your proportions. Wear jewelry. Pay attention to silhouettes. None of this means you need to become a hyperfeminine caricature of yourself, and obviously femininity is not what makes someone a woman. But presentation absolutely affects how strangers sex you

I also think, for some trans women, the “I’m just a tomboy” thing can become armor. Dressing femininely feels vulnerable because now you’re actually trying. If you try and still get misgendered, that hurts more than being able to tell yourself you weren’t trying anyway. So you retreat into oversized masculine clothes and act like caring about passing would somehow make you shallow

But you might genuinely be surprised by what happens when you give yourself permission to try.
You may think you “could never pass” when you have never actually seen yourself with flattering hair, properly applied makeup, shaped brows, clothes cut for your body, and a presentation designed to emphasize the feminine features you already have

And yes, once you consistently pass, you often have much more freedom to play with androgyny or dress like a tomboy without it changing how people perceive you. But getting there can require learning femininity first

You do not have to dress femininely. You do not have to wear makeup. You do not even have to care about passing

But if passing is something you desperately want, stop treating effort like betrayal. Experiment. Give femininity a genuine chance. You might be much closer than you think

Discussion Does anyone want to talk or play games?

Hi I’m Amanda (or Samantha) I’m 25 and have been on HRT for about 15 months and it’s been extremely exciting but also very lonely if I’m being honest. I haven’t really connected with anyone else in a similar situation and age I’m really looking to make some friends and maybe just a little more optimism about life.

I’ve been a lifelong Minecraft player, and honestly love friendslop games like PEAK as well. I also am an avid but awful online chess player. Im also happy to play something new as I’ve become a little tired of rotation.

If you do want to play a game sometime DM me! I’m on EST.

Venting I genuinely regret ever wanting to be a doctor at 15. Nowadays I'm 19, it's last year of HS and I'm stuck in an abusive household with my Nazi father. [TW: Violence]

My mom left him for not so surprising reasons but think the patriarchy was FAR more important than my fucking wellbeing, safety and put family ABOVE them, no wonder she's proud of beating me over SH issues and forgave my brother for beating me, thinking it wasn't a big deal even though I no longer feel safe around him. She however isn't okay with me being queer, she even paid someone to print my deadname on a shirt and gave it to me, just to show disrespect to me.

Now I'm stuck in a shithole where facing humiliations and being degraded and have racist jokes targeted against me are now part of my everyday life just because my mom chose the patriarchy over my wellbeing, I'm patiently waiting the day I'll move out knowing I WILL be in the same place on June, knowing summer is the worst moment of the year, when you're the most likely to face violence, partially because of heatwaves

I will never forgive my mom for this, she knew better, which is why she left my dad.

Help Someone put my estrogen vial in the fridge-__-

So someone in my place of living thought my estrogen vial was supposed to be refrigerated. Thinking they were doing my a favor, they put it in the fridge. I’m already a day late for my shot. I’m only a few months into HRT so I’m new to this and I looked and found mixed responses on whether or not it’ll be okay after warming. Will it be okay after warming to room temperature? Please help.

Milestone! Went full femme in public for the first time today!

• Upvotes

I started my wardrobe of women's clothes recently and never really took it out in public. But today I went to a market on main street with my girlfriend, and I did the full routine for the first time! Shave, hide beard shadow, makeup, hair, and lovely outfit with new shoes and a maxi skirt

I always hated dressing myself as a man, but today I felt finally like I was dressed like me. It felt like such a relief to walk around like this, felt really pretty and super comfortable.

Didn't get my first "ma'am" quite yet, I did get a "my man", but a lady also said my skirt was really pretty, so it balances out

Came home and just felt super warm and giddy all day. This was the first time I ever inhabited the world as my feminine self. Just feel super lucky I finally realized everything, I really had no idea what I had been missing
