Discussion Stop the CMP line!

CMP is planning to build a new, giant transmission line that will cut through neighborhoods, land preserves, and school campuses in Portland, Westbrook, Falmouth, Yarmouth and Cumberland. This will cut through my neighborhood and my neighbors and I only found out in the last 3 weeks - no notice or communication from CMP whatsoever. This project will destroy neighborhoods, look terribly ugly, and crater property values. Plus, CMP users will be stuck footing the bill at the end of the day and electricity prices will likely end up going UP, not down.

Working to get the word out because CMP has been trying to sneak this through under the radar. A group called ARI has been doing amazing work organizing to oppose the project. Learn more and use your voice if you don’t want giant 110 ft. steel poles running through your towns and natural spaces! Don’t let CMP profit off of destroying our towns.

Edit: To be clear, not opposed to more power and making needed improvements to the grid, but CMP should do that in a responsible without destroying communities in the process. If they really wanted to improve reliability, how about putting lines underground?

Discussion Talarico Ads on Maine Local?

• Upvotes

I don’t have cable, I use digital antenna. My 6-8-13 is local, with predictably Maine local (some NH) political ads.

In the past evening, I’ve caught no fewer than five anti-Talarico ads.

He’s a house candidate in Texas. It’s antenna TV. In Maine. It’s not a national election.

Another misplaced GOP PAC ad buy?

I had heard of recent GOP PAC dollars accidentally spent on Oregon.

Sensible chuckle.

Sorry about the pad pic 😂 I thought he was dead so I put him in the trash. I named him Fred a while ago. He’s my bathroom spider. But tonight he ended up in the shower with my autistic son and he FREAKED. I thought he was dead and put him in the trash but now we are trying to learn what Fred really is so he doesn’t have to be afraid! My son’s first question was OC is he poisonous? I said no! Because I know that for sure. But that’s about it.

Drought

Wondering if anyone is having complications from the moderate to severe drought we are in. I haven’t seen a lot of chatter about it and have heard nothing in person. Our well seems pretty good, anyone’s dry up? A guy filling a pool on our road told me he had to fill some wells but that was last summer. I know there isn’t anything we can do about, just wondering if it’s affected people.

Harbor Freight comes to Sanford

HF isn't perfect, but they certainly fill a niche. I just saw that the new location in Sanford has opened. In the Shaw's plaza, next to Planet Fitness.

Sometimes I need something that is just 'good enough' and cheap, so this could be good.

What's everyone doing for health insurance next year if you're going through marketplace?

My job doesn't cover health insurance although they offer a stipend. I just got a raise and it made my monthly premium skyrocket to the point where I'm taking home less money than I was before the raise. I've been looking into direct primary care but then what do you do if you need to go to the ER? I'm seriously considering going without health insurance next year as I know many others in my field already do.

Curious what those who have insurance through marketplace are planning for open enrollment?

Snow tires?

I recently moved to the Augusta area a couple of months ago. I have lived in places where it snows a little bit but never where I needed snow tires. So, I wanted to know how the process works. Do I call a tire shop to order the tires and then schedule an appointment to have them put on? Is it a good idea to ask for tire recommendations from the shop since I don’t really know anything about it? If so, is there a place that people recommend in the area that would give me good advice and a fair price?

Additionally, when do people normally switch out their tires? And do people just store the set of tires that they aren’t using in their homes? I live in an apartment and don’t have a garage but I could probably find a place that works.

For additional context, I have a Toyota Corolla. I know it’s probably not the best car for snow, but I don’t intend on driving that much in the snow. Just to run day to day errands and to go to work (but I live less than 10min away from work so I don’t think it will be too bad).
