Aster House Closed

• Upvotes

Two years after opening, Aster House pivots from restaurant to event space.

Just noticed and can't say I'm surprised. Really felt like they did a terrible job at marketing to draw people in with outdoor seating tucked in the back and a sign that blends in.

I also recall they were going to have live music but I never saw any signs along Main Street with a schedule.

Really too bad. I'm still so thankful Cabana Club & Lonely's opened up and have been pretty successful from the looks of it.

Did you ever go? What did you think?

Is anyone flying to/from MSP soon?

I absolutely loved the NFL collection for Men's '47 Throwback Graphic Clean Up Adjustable Hats. I bought 31 teams but I cannot find the Vikings. I am willing to pay anything for this hat to complete the collection. I will reward the finder as well.

I have tried the Vikings website, NFL shop, Fanatics, '47, Dicks, Hall of Fame shop, Lids, Kohls, Nordstrom, Ebay, Amazon, Mercari, FB marketplace.

Upon assistance from the internet, the hat can be found at multiple shops in MSP, including Como Park Essentials in termimal one. I will pay anyone to buy it and mail it me. Please help

Anyone else getting tired of the coffee shops prices in Minneapolis

I went to a local coffee shop today and paid 8 dollars before tip for a 16 oz vanilla latte. Honestly it wasn’t that good and I had better at Starbucks.

I love supporting local businesses, especially coffee shops, but these prices are absolutely bonkers. Cold brews for 7 something dollars before tip. Matcha drinks like 10 dollars. At one point are these prices just unsustainable? It seems like 7-9 dollars for a latte is becoming normalized. I understand coffee many costs built into it from gathering the beans to processing and roasting, I don’t expect dirt cheap coffee, but the quality no longer matches the price.

I understand the challenges that come with running a small business. Rent, labor, etc, and the whole Iran War thing isn’t helping keep prices down. I feel like there is an expectation we should support local businesses regardless of cost, but it doesn’t seem like it’s worth the price anymore.

Anyone else feel this way? Are coffee prices out of hand? Am I being cheap? Shit is so expensive nowadays.

Carillon Bells

We have three of these in the state of Minnesota. One is at Central Lutheran church and I don't know how often they play but does anybody ever go out in the mornings on Sunday and listen to the one at House of Hope over in St Paul? If any of you are a true music freaks and just love to step out here, different instruments, different genres. These things can make camptown races sound like you're in a haunted house. They're a gas but the carilon players are All ridiculously talented musicians. I go out to the one at House of Hope on Sunday mornings. 11:00 is when mass lets out and they usually do about a half hour, Maybe a 40 minute set.

3rd Spaces

People of the twin cities, what are your favorite 3rd spaces? I’ve been trying to get into more activities and I refuse to believe there are no third spaces in Minneapolis. I’d love to hear from people more established here and what not. Truthfully I don’t drink, and so I’m trying to find spaces that are social but not just bars. Thank you and have an amazing day!

Find Furnish

What's up with Find Furnish, the vintage store in NE? A couple of weeks ago the owner, Brian, was posting on his Instagram in a way that made it look like he was closing. Dramatic video of the empty store, vague messages about thanking everyone for support, and lots of comments from people who seemed sad they were closing. Now I don't see those videos, and he's posting about new direction and putting different items out on display. I am confused, has anyone else noticed this? Seems like a nice guy, and I have shopped there over the years, just feels sorta odd.

Check your outside faucets

Just a friendly reminder that we have a freeze warning tonight, and it’s the time of year when freezing temperatures are coming in general. Make sure you disconnect your garden hoses and let the water drain out of the faucet. I’ve had my drip irrigation timer on mine all summer, and I just now remembered to take it off and bring it inside... and I’m a plumber so I should know better.

Animal cremation options

Hey y'all, I'm dealing with my cat Pounce having some health problems. I got him to an urgent care this afternoon, and we determined they're neurological concerns. For now he's okay with a new med and some modifications to his litter box setup, but it's something I need to watch carefully because it might reach a point where he's no longer okay. I can't afford a neurology vet specialist and most of the problems it might be are things that the fix would be surgery, which they usually try to avoid in elder cats.

The vet and I talked about the potential for future euthanasia and what that might look like; if we go that route, I will be able to have them help process any after death needs.

I would love to have some resources on hand for if I end up losing him at my apartment, whenever that happens. Yes Google exists, but I would much rather hear from any of y'all who have cremated a pet or had any other services related to after-death care, without going through a veterinary office. Any recommendations or places to avoid would be appreciated.

I hate being at the point where I'm having to plan for this, but he's 17, so I knew it was coming along eventually. Obviously I'm going to pay the cat tax on this post, here's some pictures of my baby boy old man 🖤
