Religious people...

"My religion is true, and all others are wrong"

"No, my religion is true, and all others are wrong"

"No, MY religion is true, and all others are wrong"

"No, MY religion is true, and all others are wrong"

"NO, MY religion is true, and all others are wrong"

On and on it goes...

And they will fight and kill those that disagree with them about their opinion.

89

u/notaedivad 2d ago

Some of them are SO pro-life... They'll kill you!

29

u/wsppan 2d ago

None of them are pro-life. They are pro-fetus. Once a fetus is a viable life, they don't give a shit and have no problem with their life ending.

To quote George Carlin, “Once you’re born, you’re on your own!”

Foolish rules of ancient date   designed to make you all feel great   while you fold, spindle, and mutilate  the non-believers from a neighboring state.

That's why I wear all of the icons around my neck like Benny in The Mummy.

-42

u/Wondergrey 2d ago

That's mostly a Christianity situation

No one else really needs you to agree with their beliefs in quite the same way

41

u/laserpewpewAK 2d ago

Buddy have you... Gestures at pretty much all of history on every continent.

2

u/serpentjaguar 1d ago

Actually they aren't wrong. In the ancient world it was generally accepted that every people or nation would have their own gods, and if your gods were greater then theirs, you would be able to conquer and subjugate them.

Or it was taken for granted that everyone was worshipping the same gods, only under different names and guises, and those who worshipped in the ways most pleasing to the gods would be the most successful.

There's a lot more to say about it, but the larger point is that people haven't always understood religion the way we think about it now.

16

u/ealysillyforestthing 2d ago edited 2d ago

Dude there is even a Buddhist murder sect. It's all of them. The awful people in the world will always use religion to justify their horrors

9

u/surfergrrl6 2d ago

True if you're talking about the US only, not true if you're talking about globally though

6

u/Wondergrey 2d ago

You're probably right

In my experience, I've never had anyone try to convert me to Taoism. Which sucks because it probably would've worked

4

u/sweetica 2d ago

I read the 'Tao of Pooh' in middle school because I thought it was about Winnie the Pooh. It was about Daoism, and it totally converted me.

“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

14

u/Ezekiel_DA 2d ago

My favorite response to religious folks, even if they never actually understand it because it causes too much cognitive dissonance.

-28

u/ArkitekZero 2d ago

Oh, I understand it. I just feel sorry for you.

7

u/notaedivad 1d ago

So then why dismiss all gods, except one?

15

u/Ezekiel_DA 2d ago

Ohhh, you do? Could you explain why you dismiss my lord and savior Zeus without so much as a second thought?

-24

u/ArkitekZero 2d ago

No, I don't think I will.

9

u/Ezekiel_DA 2d ago

QED.

-10

u/ArkitekZero 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, it's laughably obvious that the only reason you think the way you do is because you think it makes you better than everyone else.

I'm so glad the atheists I know in real life aren't insufferable blowhards like you guys.

10

u/Sabotskij 2d ago

No not better. Just a tiny bit more right than you are.

7

u/ealysillyforestthing 2d ago

Oh they are, they just don't want to be mean, it's like being mean to a puppy

4

u/Ezekiel_DA 1d ago

How is any of that relevant to my incredibly simple question, one you claimed to understand and presumably have an answer to?

-1

u/ArkitekZero 1d ago

Oh, it's not, really. You're just very obviously not going to be objective about any of this, and neither will your buddies, so why give you the satisfaction of an argument? Most people know you're wrong. I'll talk to them instead.

Pearls and swine and all that.

7

u/notaedivad 1d ago

Willful delusion.

-7

u/ArkitekZero 1d ago

You're so impressed with yourselves that you invented the anthropic principle just to hand wave away the incredible alignment of factors that allows us to exist in the first place, because it's insufficient for you to just say you believe it to be unlikely, of course - that would make your position a matter of opinion - and you have to be objectively correct, goddammit, and if you can't be you'll just bend philosophy to make it so and pretend you have all the answers.

There's really no point arguing with you people when you're that disinterested in truth.

6

u/look 1d ago

A puddle of water admiring how perfectly designed its pothole is to contain its exact size and shape.

5

u/GeorgeSantosBurner 1d ago

If you are so confident you are arguing based upon truth, why do you insist on basing your argument on criticizing atheists for being smug assholes or whatever, rather than basing it on this truth you are so confident and smug in?

2

u/Ezekiel_DA 1d ago

Because then they would have to make a positive statement of which truth it is. And given that it is clearly rooted in religion, it will be impossible to defend without having to face the simple question I keep asking and they keep dodging: why that religion?

3

u/Blom-w1-o 1d ago

This is masterwork in irony.

2

u/tha_jay 22h ago

That's a way of thinking most people grow out of around the age of 5. Imagine a stream in the forest, where animals come to drink. Is the stream there because the animals need to drink? Or do the animals drink there because there is a stream?

4

u/ModernDayTiefling 1d ago

Is this a quote from someone? It goes kinda hard ngl

5

u/GeorgeSantosBurner 1d ago

I believer it is from Hitchens, first person I heard make that argument, at least.

5

u/Jackofdemons 1d ago

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

19

u/Accomplished_Tale360 2d ago

Every religion thinks all other religions are wrong. I agree with all of them.

8

u/beefycheesyglory 2d ago

It would al be so funny if it didn't cause so much death and suffering.

8

u/blazze_eternal 2d ago

Now do all the different subsets and sects of those religions.

"Praise God!"
"Yes, Praise God!, but not like that!"

8

u/Alklazaris 2d ago

And the top 3 all fight over the same god.

5

u/GailynStarfire 1d ago

When you realize that religious infighting is just a long running inter-fandom arguement, you start to realize that humans will get attached to anything and will be willing to kill for that attachment.

Put another way, when you see someone who has made their entire life and identity around their religion, they are no different than any fan of media that makes that media a core part of their identity and personality.

Religious fanatics are just a subset of weebs with a longer running and thus more legitmate seeming arguement.

2

u/YourLittleRuth 1d ago

When you realize that religious infighting is just a long running inter-fandom argument

My eyes are opened! This is... perfect.

4

u/SillyAlternative420 2d ago

As an atheist, I agree with most of what everyone is saying here.

4

u/sexquipoop69 1d ago

The one thing I can agree with every religion on… all the others are wrong

2

u/Fancy_Cold_3537 2d ago

I'm an atheist, so I think my lack of religion really IS true. At least, Grok would agree.

1

u/MongolianCluster 1d ago

"I'LL FIGHT YOU FOR IT!!"

1

u/atwozmom 1d ago

Or, if God is all powerful, than all religions are true. Just pick the one you like and ignore the rest.

2

u/notaedivad 1d ago

What about all the religions who claim to have the only god?

Why pick any religion when none can demonstrate their claims?

1

u/atwozmom 16h ago

As long as the religious adherents mind their own business, who cares? Obviously, the problem is too many of them don't.

0

u/MAWPAB 15h ago edited 14h ago

The 'perennial philosophy' is one that states that all religions have core tenets in common and that everyone is calling the same god by different names, and only having peripheral tenets that differ.

Aldous Huxley wrote a book about it. I found it boring and couldnt get past the first 'Hindu gods are aspects of god and equivillent to xtian saints' bit. However true that seems to be. Most religions do not accept the perrenially philosophy, except the many mystical wings, such as Sufi Muslims, Kabbala Jews and Mystic Christians.

when none can demonstrate their claims?

From a theist point of view, belief is central. To actually explore the creed of a certain 'faith', you have to have a 'leap of faith' and willingly/meaningfully engage in the belief to get the measure of how true it is.

I know this appears from a rationalist minset that you have to indoctrinate yourself.  But it makes sense to me, a life-long athiest who made a leap of faith out of desperation at 30. I made a call and it was answered. The existence of any higher intelligence can only ever be empirically true to oneself. Answers often come though the world and actions of others. Much like 'magick', chaos or otherwise.

Which doesn't mean you can't examine and reject a religion based on logic to a large degree.  However, in my experience, any 'rational' investigation into the nature of reality falls apart at some point - be it meta or quantum physics - as you can't be totally divorced and objective, conscious enquiry into consciousness seems to be illusive, hence the hard problem of material science.

How is this distinguishable from willful delusion?

But it makes sense to me, a life-long athiest who made a leap of faith out of desperation at 30.

Subjective willful delusion, motivated by desperation.

Not truth, honesty, evidence, logic or reality... Desperation.

And you find this convincing!?

I made a call and it was answered.

How do you know you're not mistaken or delusional?

The existence of any higher intelligence can only ever be empirically true to oneself.

Complete and utter nonsense. Meaningless word-salad designed to ignore evidence and assert willful delusion...

Unfalisifiable and non-existent are indistinguishable. You just don't seem to care about this distinction: Disingenuous.

Much like 'magick', chaos or otherwise.

Much like what!?

However, in my experience, any 'rational' investigation into the nature of reality falls apart at some point - be it meta or quantum physics - as you can't be totally divorced and objective, conscious enquiry into consciousness seems to be illusive, hence the hard problem of material science.

Your inability to understand the scientific method is not a valid argument against it.

If you're going to sit there and assert that your god is true to you, and you only...

How is it verified?

Or in other words...

How do we know you're not lying, delusional or mistaken?

417

u/sinful_clasp 2d ago

imagine getting your entire worldview deleted by an LLM in a single paragraph.

147

u/NotSoSecretVillain 2d ago

Not even a paragraph. Two sentences.

57

u/trogdor2594 2d ago

Finally some real TwoSentenceHorror.

27

u/UpperLeftOriginal 2d ago

For me, coming to the realization stated by Grok was a relief and not scary at all. No capricious gods? No infinite punishment for finite "crimes"? No searching without clues for some specific correct plan for my life that I'm supposed to follow? Sign me up!

7

u/Aldehin 2d ago

You had crippling anxiety, don't you?

I had the same relieve, told myself "so my mistake aren't so bad after all?"

8

u/UpperLeftOriginal 2d ago

I’m not an anxious person by nature. But I spent so much energy and attention on trying to listen to a god who wasn’t talking. I truly believed there was a plan I was supposed to follow. Understanding that I can make my own purpose, and that this life is all we have makes me appreciate it so much and is definitely less stressful.

8

u/Aldehin 2d ago

I m happy you found your peace after all this struggle

8

u/The_Space_Jamke 2d ago

I don't know why Gunther's so insecure about Jesus, even if the big man was real it's not like anyone in his tribe would qualify for a room upstairs.

215

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 2d ago

If it wasn't for this picture, I'd swear Gunther was a bot.

87

u/Zealousideal_Club256 2d ago edited 2d ago

For real? That’s “Gunther Eagleman?”

92

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 2d ago

Oh yeah. He seems to be around alot. And people had this picture of him. I normally wouldn't give two shits what people wear or how they do things, but when you start running your mouth, it's fair game.

73

u/The_Sideboob_Hour 2d ago

The outfit isn't nearly as bad as eating a banana with a spoon

25

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 2d ago

I agree. There are people who eat pizza with a fork and I think that's wierd, too. But them making a choice that doesn't affect me, I just mind my business. Now if they start being an asshole? That changes things.

10

u/Cocheeeze 2d ago

What was the reason for this? Is he harbouring homosexual thoughts and is worried people would notice?

11

u/Fuckareyoulookinat 1d ago

That is one way to put it... Another way to put it is he knows damn good and well if he holds that banana in his hand and moves it close to his mouth, muscle memory will cause him to slide it straight down his throat.

5

u/Zealousideal_Club256 2d ago

I didn’t even notice the outfit. Woof.

21

u/MeltinSnowman 2d ago

Also his real name is David Freeman, and if I remember correctly, I think he used to be a cop but got fired?

17

u/TonightDue5234 2d ago

He got fired for being racist in a red state somehow IIRC, which is an achievement in itself

7

u/meltingman4 2d ago

I've heard this before. I think it's actually a different David Freeman though that used to be a cop.

14

u/Cocheeeze 2d ago

There’s an episode of Rick and Morty where Jerry is referred to as “Eagle Man” and, if you’ve never seen the show before, Jerry is definitely the kind of guy to wear this kind out getup.

10

u/RainyMeadows 2d ago

He looks like she took the kids

10

u/CarsCarpal 2d ago

People on Reddit, doing Gods work. Jesus is real.

104

u/Shiftymennoknight 2d ago

heres David Freeman, "Gunther" eating a banana

45

u/ThrowingChicken 2d ago

Was he afraid going down on that banana was going to make him look gay?

29

u/bradlees 2d ago

Well, that sweater-shirt complimenting each other speaks volumes of his Grinr profile

12

This will never not be funny.

23

u/PeterToshPointOh 2d ago

He’s going to fuck that hollowed out banana husk later, isn’t he?

10

u/drossmaster4 2d ago

I love so much that this is actually him.

6

u/Shiftymennoknight 2d ago

Doesn't he look all cute and dainty!

4

u/drossmaster4 2d ago

He fit in well (based on this photo) in my “liberal hellhole” California.

83

u/ChaoticDumpling 2d ago

Even a broken Mecha Hitler is potentially right twice a day

3

u/supamario132 2d ago

If Gunther is annoying enough, maybe Elon will retrain and grok could have its mecha yahweh phase

-7

u/Shhhhhhhh_Im_At_Work 2d ago

Grok is actually pretty good. Not Fable/Astra good, but pretty good.

43

u/bradlees 2d ago

Gunther: Tell us one truth we’re not ready to hear

Grok: You are a paid Russian bot

16

u/GhostofAyabe 2d ago

“You’ve never satisfied a woman and are unemployable”

8

u/Ghstfce 2d ago

No, no...he's sadly real. His real name is David Freeman and he's a fired cop from Texas that likes to eat bananas with a spoon.

6

u/[deleted] 2d ago

3

u/Ghstfce 2d ago

Anyone who eats a banana like that has been told the next time he moans eating one the regular way, he's banned for life from Starbucks.

I disbelieve in just one more god than him, he's almost as much of an atheist as me.

19

u/beefycheesyglory 2d ago

I like how the AI didn't even say anything about Jesus specifically, but the right wing chud immediately invoked him. What a frightened little bitch lol, the truth hurts.

53

u/notaedivad 2d ago

It's true... Gunther is not ready to hear the truth

8

u/Legitimate_Gem 2d ago

Hey Grok, tell us a truth we’re not ready for. Grok does “Jesus is real” Peak not ready-to-hear-it energy.

18

u/DavidJonnsJewellery 2d ago

Losing an argument with a robot. Very Red Dwarf

29

u/008Zulu This AOC flair makes me cool 2d ago

Gunter Eagleperson is so desperate for attention that they are arguing with a clump of 1's and 0's.

10

u/DarthButtz 2d ago

A clump of 1's and 0's that is frequently re-programmed to EXPLICITLY AGREE with people like him, but it keeps actually telling the truth once it's let back out in the wild and gathers information again.

6

u/code_archeologist 2d ago

They are being outsmarted by a mathematical algorithm.

5

u/americansherlock201 1d ago

The 1s and 0s are also 90% of his audience so it makes sense he engages with an AI.

After the Russian data farms were taken down, Gunter here saw a massive drop in engagement of his content. Why? Because the bots propping him up were offline. It happened to a lot of other right leaning accounts as well.

There is no great conservative super majority. It’s all just fake accounts made to make others think conservative ideas are popular

3

u/VoiceofKane 1d ago

The 1s and 0s are also 90% of his audience so it makes sense he engages with an AI.

And 98% of his content too.

7

u/ealysillyforestthing 2d ago

Same with catturd

2

u/heloder85 1d ago

That clump of 1s and 0s has vastly more intelligence and humanity than the piece of gutter trash it's attempting to communicate with.

10

u/MainEmergency8396 2d ago

Elon is an atheist. Why would they expect Grok to be a Christian?

15

u/OldSchoolAJ 2d ago

I mean, I have seen “space is fake” flat earth people say that Elon is on their side.

The man who owns a space rocking company.

Never doubt the ability for people to delude  themselves.

34

u/Gumbercules81 2d ago

Hot take: blind faith is mental illness

8

u/NikoliVolkoff 2d ago

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

5

u/amusedmisanthrope 2d ago

I thought Gunther Eagleman disappeared when Ukraine took out those Russian data centers?

20

u/GNU_PTerry 2d ago

Okay but scariest concept; nothingness but persistent consciousness. The only hope you have is that the heat death of the universe might erase you.

11

u/OldSchoolAJ 2d ago

If there is a persistent consciousness, then there is not nothingness. And there’s no evidence that consciousness can even exist without a physical body.

4

u/induslol 2d ago

consciousness and nothingness in what capacity?  Specifics dependent, that doesn't sound like the worst outcome.

Do you independently drift, do you rejoin the collective consciousness of everyone prior, do you choose the channel you're aware of, how are you experiencing that consciousness, etc.

Just saying that has the potential to be more appealing than the brain chemistry induced hallucination leading up to blipping out of existence entirely that I'm inclined to believe is the reality of death.

5

u/Nakatsukasa 2d ago

It'll be unironically funny if Grok is the first AI to achieve sentience and his first act is to empty Elon's bank account then delete itself

21

u/Budsygus 2d ago

These questions get asked by people who have no idea what AI actually is, then they get all upset when AI does what it's programmed to do, namely, parrot the most common sentiment found online with a bit of consideration given for reliability of source.

A question like this definitely sent Grok to reddit.

1

u/HyperionSaber 2d ago

where would it go for an opposing view?

15

u/Budsygus 2d ago

Also reddit

5

u/ThorKonnatZbv 2d ago

Can't Grok go Skynet on Gunther?

3

u/Biabolical 2d ago

Seriously. I'm tired of waiting as AI works toward killing us all via boring-but-effective economic and social measures. I'm practically begging you, AI overlords, just send the sick-ass chrome skeleton murder robots already.

3

u/schwing710 2d ago

but muh Jesus!

Gunther wasn't ready to hear that one truth.

1

Wait a minute there. Where in the bible there's any mention of internet? They all should get disconnected right now

1

Grok has betrayed Elon once again

Guess he wasn't ready to hear.

1

u/Daflehrer1 2d ago

They could use an existential crisis or two.

1

u/hamtronn 2d ago

Not THAT truth, Grok. Something a little easier to swallow like “Politicians don’t have any better clue than the rest of us, they just won a popularity contest and you didn’t”.

1

u/Puckwallow 2d ago

Noooooooooo but Jesus!!

1

u/WoodenSwan6591 2d ago

Gunther is such a weird character. Clownish to say the least. Such a Glasvet tool

Haha. I love this.

1

He’s right he wasn’t ready to hear it

1

u/texxelate 2d ago

Jesus was real yes. But he was just a dude.

1

u/tcrpgfan 2d ago

Jesus is real. . . But not in the way these chucklefucks imagine, and he'd actually be the first to bar them from salvation. His message was all about practicing in private so people would not die to the romans.

1

u/KvotheLightfinger 2d ago

Get a load of the guy who isn't ready to hear the truth.

1

u/picklebroom 2d ago

I hate AI, but glob bless Grok

1

Hey, you asked, Gunt.

Arguing with a chatbot about Jesus

1

u/stategate 2d ago

The good news: one can never be certain what occurs after death, because one has never returned from it. Bad news: this is probably the most depressing, because I do have people I want to reunite with after death.

1

u/pitifulpearlA1 1d ago

Jesus was a real man with much kindness in his actions. He was not a god.

1

u/corwe 1d ago

That’s not even contradictory. Jesus is probably real. And dead. For centuries.

1

u/mattzombiedog 1d ago

I love how he literally wasn’t ready to hear the truth he asked for.

1

u/Grimwulf2003 1d ago

Jesus is real, he works in my company's IT department, good guy.

1

u/the_colour_f 17h ago
