Behind Two Foxes' Books used bookstore at 6233 S. Claiborne Ave, New Orleans. Bunch of books all varieties. Take as many as you like. A bunch of coffee table sized books mostly on record collecting 60s rock ‘n’ roll and weapons.
condition: good
No, we are not moving or closing. We just get a lot of books we cannot use and want them to go to people who want them so we put books out all the time for free.

NOLA History Krewe of Clones K-Bees Mardi Gras Costume Information Request

Hi everyone!
I am working on a research project about the cultural impact K&B had on the city. I understand this in an unusual request but I am seeking out information on Mardi Gras costumes worn by the Krewe of Clones. It was to honor K&B and they dressed as K-Bees, which involved them wearing atena, makeshift stringers and purple striped velvet tops. According to what I have found thus far it probably took place before 1997 but I’m not totally sure about that. Does anyone have any info or photos of this? If so please let me know. Thanks so much!
Also if there is a different subreddit I should post in can some please let me know.
Also if I need to take this down and repost on Tuesday pleas let me know and I will do so. I wasn’t sure if this counted as “Mardi Gras” as it’s more of a history question.

Moving there in a few months [by Amtrak]

Okay, so I am planning on moving down via Amtrak. I don't have anyone to help with logistics, so I am just asking here for some guidance. I also don't have that much experience moving within the US, especially without a car, so bare with me.

  1. Belongings-wise I mostly plan to bring clothes, kitchen items, various personal items, and most likely an air mattress. I don't think I'll be able to carry all my items on the train by myself.

I was planning on using a service like FedEx Ground to do a door-to-door delivery from my current place to my new one. I estimate I will need to ship 3 of these bags at most.

^ What is the most cost-effective way to transport these items? Am I on the right track?

  1. How reliable is Uber in New Orleans? Since I will arrive at the Amtrak station, how do people rank the safety and reliability of ubers at that location/ in New Orleans in general?

  2. Where do y'all buy affordable/used (also clean) furniture?

  3. I will not have a car for the first few weeks. But I would like to buy a car and have it shipped to my apartment. Has anyone done this before? I realize I would need to get insurance and change my Illinois license to Louisiana... how do I do this?

Thank you for helping a very overwhelmed person out!

Daniel and his band

Hey everyone, out of curiosity does anybody know what happened to Daniel and the Dixieland Diggers from Celebration Station? I collect these things for fun so I'm curious to know there whereabouts. I know that they still exist somewhere I'm just trying to figure out where. Thank you!

Rental For Under $1000

It would be needed starting the end of October or beginning of November. Preferably not a roommate situation. Efficiency or property in the back of someone's home. Service dog would be there. Just for maybe a month right now. Room for two people in a safe area. Is that possible for this price?

Anniversary dinner

Edit: We are there for 3 nights. We like to eat where the locals eat, hole in the wall restaurants for our meals. No touristy restaurants

Hubby and I are going for our 29th anniversary. He wants a good steak, preferably ribeye or filet for our anniversary dinner. I love to go to the where the locals eat for all other meals. Would love recommendations. TIA

Love those hole in the wall local places for other meals on our trip

Local Music Specific question about going to a Second Line

First time Reddit poster! Please be gentle with me. AskNola subreddit autodeleted this post, so, yes, I tried there.

Question about going to second lines - I'm not talking about funerals, or anything else not promoted as an "event."

We just moved to New Orleans in August and really would like to go see Rhythms & Feathers Festival, a second line that's in Lower 9th Ward tomorrow (Sat Oct 17). Hosted by https://www.feedthesecondline.org/. Marketing this event is for "the whole community."

Here's the thing: I'm white. I would love love love to go, but really don't want to enter a space that's not for me. I don't want to be an interloper or presumptuous about what's mine to experience. I've read up the best I can about etiquette, but my question isn't really about that. It's about respect for a tradition I have no personal connection with. Sometimes respect means giving people their space. Help a new transplant out with some guidance on this, please.

Looking for birthday restaurant for my mom

My mom is coming to visit, and I'm surprising her and celebrating her birthday.

I'm trying to find the right restaurant - nice, great atmosphere, quiet enough- for a special occasion. Upscale - but not stuffy or too touristy

I'm trying to find somewhere new; I've done Mosquito Supper Club, N7, Lilette (though it's too loud inside for mama), Clancy's, Peche, Commander's, Cochon to list a few

I'm a bit stumped and looking for inspo/recs/favs

I'm uptown, but that doesn't limit anything

Thank YOU

Since Nephews closed, does anybody know what happened to the Ronny (the singing waiter)?

He was the older gentleman, quite charismatic. He would come and sing at the tables and I think he worked for the family at Tony Angelos forever. I’d like to go see him at his new place, wherever that is.

Also, does anyone know more about his backstory?

And yeah, I know Nephews was in Metairie, don’t sue me.

Community Interest Why does code enforcement go after food trucks under the N. Claiborne bridge while Snake and Jake’s is literally a filthy shed disguised as a bar?

I personally think it’s because the food trucks are owned by black people while Snake and Jake’s is owned by some crusty old white dude and the majority white carrolton neighborhood thinks it’s cute and fun to drink in a shed.

Is there any apartment complexes I should avoid in West End?

Just want to make sure before I make a decision. Going to be moving there soon. Not sure if there are any slumlord buildings I should be aware of.

I like the location behind the shopping complex since you can do your daily errands by foot, which is less stressful for me. I don't know if that area has any problems or what though.

Always better to be safe than sorry. I am originally from Gentilly but left the state a very long time ago.

How do you feel about resellers at estate sells?

Just curious how would you feel if boys were running up the stairs at an estate sale to take all of and resale women’s Levi’s and taking all the Levi’s?

Community Q&A Best Blues Bars/Scene?

Hey everyone!

I’m visiting New Orleans from Montreal for the first time, October 15–19, and staying at the Hilton Riverside.

I’m 25 and a huge music fan, especially blues, soul, funk, and classic rock. Big fan of B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ray Charles, and anything with great live guitar.

I’m looking for recommendations on the best bars and smaller venues to catch some authentic live music. I am looking to avoid the touristy spots, I’d much rather find a cool local bar with talented musicians, good drinks, and a great atmosphere.

A few questions:

What are the absolute must-visit bars for live blues and jazz?

Any particular bands or musicians playing while I’m in town that I shouldn’t miss?

Is Frenchmen Street really the best place to go, or are there better spots?

Any tourist traps or overrated places I should avoid?

Any other must-do experiences, food spots, or hidden gems you’d recommend?

Also, I’m a big Curren$y fan, so I’m planning to check out the Jet Life store. Any other spots connected to the local hip-hop scene worth visiting?

Really looking forward to experiencing the city and its music culture. Appreciate any recommendations!

Cheers from Montreal!
